Cheat mode

Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "WarInput.ini" file found in either of the following folders:

In Windows XP: "\Documents and Settings\<username>\My Documents\My Games\Gears of War\"
In Windows Vista: "\<username>\Documents\My Games\Gears of War for Windows\Wargame\Config\"

Add or change the following lines in the file.

Start the game and press ~ to display the console window. Then, enter one of the following codes to activate the corresponding cheat function. Note: Enabling a code will prevent achievements from becoming unlocked.

Modify weapons

Use a text editor to view the "WarWeapon.ini" file in the game's "Config" folder. Scroll down until finding the section for the desired weapon. For example, the entry for the Lancer appears as follows.

Look for the line you wish to modify. The file itself cannot be changed, but its entries can be used as console codes. For example, to modify the Lancer's clip size to 1000, the "MagSize=60" would need to be updated through a console code. The format of the code is the word set followed by the weapon heading (in this example, WarfareGame.WeapAssaultRifle) followed by the value to be changed (in this example MagSize=1000). The complete code to be entered at the console window would be the set WarfareGame.WeapAssaultRifle MagSize 1000 command. This can be done with any value in the file.

Hints

Quick cheats

Create a text file with a cheat code console command on each line. Save the game in the "\Gears of War\Binaries\" folder. Then, enter exec <filename.txt> as a console command to activate all those codes at once.

Additionally there is one secret achievement.
