Alternate inventory background

Find a pattern that you like on a shirt. Drag the shirt over the invisible space on the lower left corner of the touchscreen and drop it there.

Alternately, go to the patterns section of your inventory. Choose a desired pattern, then drag it to a similar invisible space in the lower-left corner of the touchscreen and drop it there.

Set roof color

The color of the room on your first house is the same as the Nintendo DS menu color when you move into it. You can choose any color desired by first changing the Nintendo DS menu color before moving in.

Set roof color without house upgrade

Once you get the Nookington's version of your local store, there will be an upper level. Tommy and Timmy will be up there to explain. Go to a wall where you can see a few wallpapers and floorings. At the end of the counter there will be a paint bucket. Tommy or Timmy will tell you that they will be able to paint it soon if you decide to buy it. Each day, there is a new color.

Grow coconut trees easier

Plant your coconut trees along the shore of the ocean. Make sure the trees are planted just along the line of the shore and the main land. If the trees are planted completely on the tanned part of the shore, or completely on the main land, then they will not grow at all and will just wither away. You will not have to water the trees at all.

Animal conversations

In your town, when you see two animals staring at each other, they are really talking to each other. Listen to their conversation by walking up to one of them and pressing A or tapping them with the stylus. Sometimes you will get involved in the conversation. One of the animals might ask you your opinion on a question asked by another one. If the animals that are talking do not like each other, they might get mad when they are done talking. To make them not feel mad anymore, leave them alone for awhile. When you see them again, they will not be mad anymore.

Keep animals in their homes

Go to the gate then ask Copper to open them for DS to DS visitors. After the gates are open, all animals in your town can be found in their homes, making deliveries and looking inside their houses easier.

Determine if animals are home

Every day at 6 p.m., the animals that are in their homes will turn their house lights on. This makes it easier to know if they are inside or outside.

Curing sick neighbors

When one of your neighbors is ill, you do not have to give them medicine. Open your main gate then close it again. They will be cured from their sickness.

Stop animals from moving

Talk to animals when they are in their house, and their things are in boxes. Keep chatting until they say something like, "I'll have to think this over..." or "Maybe I should stay..." This works well with Mabel (the bear) or Ribbot (the robotic frog).

When a neighbor is moving (there are boxes in his house), start talking and choose "Don't go" or "That can't be" until he starts saying "Maybe I'll reconsider" or something similar.

If you do not want one of your friends to move, write a letter to them saying how much you do not want them to move. Do not send that letter. If they do move, still try to send the letter. It will not actually send the letter. Pelly will ask you to take the letter back. Usually, it works to not send the letter. Keep it and that will most likely stop your friend from moving.

Getting animals to move

If there is an animal in your town that you do not like, or no one else likes, use the following to get them out. Note: A combo of the first and last things to try work best. It may be possible to get an animal to leave in a day with just one pitfall trap.

Put pitfall traps around there house or around where they are walking. Watch them try to get your help, while you watch them. Note: Make sure the correct animal falls in the trap, or an animal that you do not want to leave your town, might try to. Hit them with a net. To do this without talking to them, make sure they are not facing you, or be behind them. They will get angry quickly, and might just move.
Push them around until they get angry.
Do not help or talk to them. For example, if they are sick, do not give them medicine.

Completing the museum

To finish the museum collection, go fishing for these fish first: Sea Bass, Bluegill, Crawfish, Frog, Crucian Carp, Catfish and other fish sold under 1,000 Bells. Give them to the museum. Whenever you catch a fish worth over 1,000 Bells, sell them. then, look for more expensive fish. Donate them. Note: These fish will also become more common, so look into donating Snappers). To finish the bug collection, donate all four Cicadas, a Mosquito, a Fly, and a Honeybee first. Also donate some common butterflies. Next, hunt for Stag Beetles (found at night) and the Oak Silk Moth. Oak Silk Moths are brown and stay on trees, so look closely. Next, dig up fossils. If it is not a torso, skull, or tail, donate them. After you donate some small fossils, such as ammonites and dinosaur tracks, look for skulls. Donate Sabertooth and Mammoth skulls first; they are very easy to complete. Save up about 5,000 Bells each time Redd appears. If you get Lyle and say which day you want Redd to appear, Redd will arrive on that day. Buy a painting. If it is a fraud, dump it and fish for Snakeheads and Bass. If it is real, donate it. To also make the museum successful, go to the coffee shop once every day. After your cup, go back in the chair and say to Brewster, "I love this place!" if that option is available.

Easy fruit

Send a letter to a villager with a gift in it. They might send you fruit. Most of the time the fruit is not native to your town; plant it for even more money.

To get more fruit faster, go to reset the clock and move it one month forward. If you have a tree then it will now have fruit.

Easier fishing and bug catching

You must walk when fishing, and creep when catching bugs.

Free items

Look in the sky during a perfectly clear night. Tap a shooting star when it appears to get a special gift the next day.

When the animals say "I love you, I love you not", always choose "No", "I love you" and "i love you" for a free item.

Every day, one tree will contain a random item. Spiders can be found this way as well. Note: If a neighbor is looking at a tree, something is in it.

To get free things from other animals, if they are holding a net or a fishing rod, equip your own fishing rod or net and keep talking to them. They will say about it being a beautiful day for fishing or bug catching. Keep talking to them and they will suddenly say "Why don't we have a competition?". Accept the competition and catch whatever they want. When you have caught it, bring it back to the animal and talk to them. They will take your fish or bug and will give you a prize in return. Note: This works more than one time on one animal.

Send your neighbors letters and attach Pitfalls Seeds and other items you do not want. They will send you furniture, clothes, and rare fruits the next day.

Selling items

When you try to sell items to Tom Nook or Mabel they will only give you 25% of the original price that they sold it to you for.

Sharing items

If you have a friend that also owns the game and he or she has an item that you like, use this trick to obtain it. Go to your friend's town or invite them over to yours. Ask them to drop the desired item and borrow it. Because you are holding it, the item should now be in the catalog at Tom Nook's store. You must buy it, but now you and your friend will have the item. Remember to return the item to your friend. Note: You can not do this with Gyroids or fossils.

Restock items

Buy an item from Tom Nook or the Able sisters. Change the system date forward or back in time then return to the same day you purchased the item. It will be restocked as if you never bought it.

Finding items in rocks

If one of your neighbors is staring at a rock, there usually is something in it (for example, a Pill Bug).

Keep turnips longer

To keep turnips longer then a week, put them on top of a table inside your house. They will stay fresh until you find a good price to sell them.

Note: You must surround the part of the table with items before you drop the turnips so that the turnips do not go on the floor. It is best to put 100 turnips on each spot so that you can get more on the table.

Avoid broken axes

If you hit rocks with an axe frequently to get bells, sooner or later your axe will break. Do this with a shovel and they will not break.

Get rid of bee stings without medicine

Go home, then go up to the attic and sleep. Turn off the Nintendo DS, then turn it back on. Mr. Ressetti will not appear, and the sting should be gone.

If you shake a tree and a bee hive drops, quickly run to any house available. If you do not succeed, talk to your Gyroid and save the game. When you continue playing you will not see the bee sting again.

Avoiding bee stings

A quicker way to not get stung by bees is to run as far away from the bees as possible then press Start. When prompted to save, select "Yes" and you will end up with no bee stings. This may take slightly longer but sometimes there may be no house around or no umbrella to twirl.

Bee sting dialogue

Get stung by bees after 11 o'clock at night, then talk to an animal who is still awake. They will usually mistake you for a monster.

Making someone mad

To make someone in your town mad at you, walk into them for a long period of time and push them around. If done correctly, they will become mad and steam will shoot out of the top of their head. They will not remain mad for too long.

To make a neighbor mad, hit the, with a net. This will take some time, but if done correctly steam will shoot out of their head.

If you have a net, start hitting someone with it. Eventually they will turn around and yell at you, then away. Their face will turn red and steam will come out of their ears.

When you find an animal that has just moved in, keep talking to them. They will say things like "Can you wait? I'm still unpacking!"

Keep bothering an animal that really wants to move. They will all usually say "No! I've already made my mind."

Push animals around. Try to push them into ponds, rivers, or the ocean.

When animals ask to deliver presents, they will say, "Better not open it!". Open it to make them angry.

Keep friends

When someone in your town moves out, link to a friend's game. They should move into your friend's town.

More neighbors

Note: This works best when your first move in your town. After getting settled in your town, advance time by one day, then backwards, then forward, and repeat. After you do this, more neighbors will have moved in your town.

When you visit another town you might meet a new friend-or neighbor. If you really hit it off with one of the locals, he might decide to pack his bags and move to your town. If he likes his new home, your town might be flooded with new immigrants.

If you meet someone in another town and one of their neighbors moves, meet with them. That animal will most likely move into your town. This often works with Opal the elephant and Camofrog the frog.

Easy jobs

To finish your first job easily, put all of your flowers in your house if you are the first citizen. If not, store it in a wardrobe.

To do your second job easily, do this before you go to work. Talk to each person twice.

To deliver your furniture and carpet quickly, just deliver it and go back to work. Do not decorate until you are finished work.

To write your letter quickly, write "BUY" and send it.

To finish your message board, simply put any letter and go back. You are finished. You can now decorate and do other unfinished business.

Changing your bed

When in the attic of your house, where the telephone is located, go to the bottom of the bed and press A. A window of your pockets will appear. Pick out a bed from your pockets. Note: You must have some sort of bed or bench in your pockets beforehand.

Extra storage space

Buy or trade for a dresser. Place it in your room. Walk up to it and press A. A screen should appear. There will be six inventory sized pull-overs. Dragging items in here puts them into your dresser. You can place and take them as desired in the drawers.

Carry 2,574,999 Bells

Write ten letters that you do not want to send. Attach 99,000 Bells to each of them. Fill your inventory with bags of 99,000 Bells. Then, fill your wallet that is shown to the left of your character. You will now have 2,574,999 Bells.

Choose player

Note: This is only when you need to create a second player. If you do it with the first player, your neighbors will change. If you like your neighbors, keep your player. Your player looks are determined by what questions you answer during the cab ride with Kappin'. If you do not like how your player looks, you can always turn off the game without Mr. Ressetti appearing because you can select "New Resident" from the start menu.

Appearances

If you give Kapp'n mixed signals about your gender, you might end up as a girl with boyish eyes, or vice versa. Or, if you answer all the questions rudely you might end up with a permanent scowl. There are dozens of possible outcomes depending on how you handled your conversation with Kapp'n.

Funny noises

When the Able sisters have the King Tut Wig in stock, select it. Say "I want to try it on." A low pitched version of the normal clothing sound will play, followed by a strange noise.

Kick dirt

If you find yourself without a shovel, and your friend has surrounded you with holes, press B when you have nothing in your hand. You will kick dirt into the holes.

Interact with animals

If you can spot another animal friend on your touch screen, tap on them and they will either bow or wave to you.

Tarantula and scorpion fight

Once you get the tarantula and scorpion. donate them to the museum. Go into the bug section and you will see them fight.

Tarantula and scorpion tries to bite

If you see an arachnid like a tarantula or a scorpion, you will hear a shuffling sound. If you stand still and allow it to bite you, the screen will black out and you will appear in front of your house. If you donate it to the museum, the bug's head will follow you trying to bite you, like the piranha that tries to get you in the Fish exhibit.

Trap neighbors

Get a shovel and make a upside down U-like pattern. Push your neighbor into the middle then make a hole at the bottom. They will be trapped and will not be able to get out.

Read other animal's letters

To do this trick, you must get a letter from one of the animals. Go to your pockets, touch the letter, and choose "Read it?" Note: If you talk to the animal who wrote it, they will get angry.

Lily's horse's name

The name that you entered when you first started the game will be same as the name of Lily's horse.

Being an environmental citizen

To look like an environmental citizen, go to Harriet's. Answer some questions. It does not matter how until she asks about color. Tell her you want cool colors. Then say that you want your color to be "lush". After a few seconds, your hair will be green so you look like leaves and plants. If your environmental citizen is a girl, look for clothes with flowers on it, or design some yourself. If you are a boy, design a shirt with a tree on it. Pull out weeds, plant trees, and water dying flowers. Also, donate to Boondox. First, donate 10,000 bells to Boondox to get the Green Feather. The next day, the unlucky town will send you a letter with the Green Feather. Use it as a hat. When you get other feathers, wear them to show people you are generous.

Customizing your town

To have a different town theme (for example, county, city, etc.), go to the Able Sisters shop. Talk to Mable and ask her to design your own pattern. That pattern is what your ground will look like. Plan it carefully. After you pay 350 Bells, go outside. Go to the menu screen, select the pattern area, and drag your pattern to the last icon. That pattern will be pasted on the ground. Continue to do this until your entire town is covered.

Mario theme

Use the following trick to make your character look like Mario. First, you must have Nookingtons unlocked. Make a new resident (if you have three, or if you deleted one). Make sure this resident is not your first. Name him Mario. If your hair is not brown or black, change it at the barber. You must have 3,000 Bells. When asking questions, hit the buttons in this order: first window: A, second window: B, third window: B. When she asks warm or cold, select "Cold" then "Mysterious!". Next, go to the Able Sisters. Make sure you have over 1,500 Bells. This step will take time. If you cannot find these, ask a friend for the following items, or wait and buy them yourself: Big Bro's Hat and Big Bro Mustache. Next, make a design with dark blue overalls with yellow buttons. Make a red shirt in the background. Put it all on and you will have Mario. You can also do the following additional things at the beginning of game. Name your town "Kingdom" (town names can be one to eight letters long). Name your people with names from the Mario series and dress them up as such. Examples are Luigi, Peach, and Daisy. Decorate your house with a Mario theme, Mansion theme, torture/castle theme (for Bowser) and a jungle theme for DK. Draw a mushroom/Italian flag design and make it your flag; but trade your design for "Tortimer's Pride".

Changing time

if you change the system time to certain extremes you will be punished by nature. When you turn on your game, there will be hundreds of weeds everywhere which will require a long time to clear. The only upside is that you may find a four leaf clover.
emurater.

Events

Events will happen on the indicated days.
and

Acorn Festival: The second week of October.
Bug-Off: Every third Sunday in June-September from 12:00 Noon to 6 p.m.
Fireworks Show: Every Saturday in August from 7 p.m. to 12 p.m.
Fishing Tourney: Every third Sunday in January, March, May, November and December from 12:00 Noon to 6 p.m.
Flea Market: Every first Saturday in the month.
Flower Fest: Second week if April.

Win Fish or Bug Tournament

If you are in the lead of a competition, talk to the mayor and keep it on the first few things he said. Do not let anyone submit a Fish or Bug, then close the Nintendo DS until the tournament is over.

Preparing for events

Flea Market: Animals will visit your house and buy things. Take out all of your furniture and replace it with things you dislike (hats, furniture, fish, insects, etc.). If you have doubles, this is the perfect event. Place your normal furniture on the top floor. They only look in the main room. You can also get some of your items back. It is not guaranteed that you will get all of it. Look in the dumpster at the Town Hall. Things like hats, flowers, and other things animals think are bad will be there.
Bug-Off: A contest to see who is the Bug Master. First, get a small bug (slightly larger than the bug in the lead). You will see approximate sizes when you look at the bugs you caught in your lifetime. Tap the butterfly icon when you open the menu. Then, get something a slightly bigger. Do this repeatedly, then end with an Emperor Butterfly about 115 mm long. Tortimer will give you things every time you break the old record. If you win, the next day you will get a trophy.
Fishing Tourney: A contest to see who gets the biggest fish. Fish like tuna, ocean sunfish, and gars will help. Release seahorses, crucian carp, bluegill, clownfish, and jellyfish. You can catch fish and save them for the tourney. Again, build your way to victory. End with an ocean sunfish or a tuna.
Yay Day: You can actually write in things like "You're ugly" or "Go away!" as a compliment. They would be flattered, because animals do not seem to understand English. Afterwards, on Yay Day they will say things like "You really think of 'you're ugly' when you see me? Gosh. I'm flattered!"
Flower Contest: Plant the biggest and best garden. You can do this easily by stealing your neighbor's plants. Hold thirteen flowers. The other two items will be a net and a watering can. Plant them around your house. Make sure there is a way to get into your house without stepping on your flowers. If you walk through them, they might break. If you win, you get a trophy.
New Year's Day: Play at 11:59 p.m. Stay at the Town Hall plaza for a countdown. You will see fireworks. Get your mail and go to the post office to save letters after 9:00 a.m. You will get a present from your mother with 10,000 Bells.
Birthday: People will give you gifts. One very special person will give you a birthday cake. Your Mother tries to celebrate by sending you a letter. Before your birthday, empty out all your letters. Delete or save, then wait until morning and play. You will have enough room for new letters.
