Avoiding achievement blocking
When you first start the game, do achievements such as "Cleaned The Mean Streets", "Walk Free", and "One Man Army" as soon as possible. After those achievements are earned, you can enable the cheat codes for health, armor, and ammunition without worrying about them blocking any achievements. This will make the rest of the story missions much easier.
Easy "Chain Reaction" achievement or trophy
- Create a traffic jam in an enclosed area, such as the Booth tunnel by blocking off both lanes with two cars. After the cars back up, steal some of them and squeeze them between the others so that there are three or four next to each other. Throw a grenade at the cars in front, then switch to your rocket launcher to destroy the others.
- Park ten vehicles at any gas station around the pumps. Get an RPG and aim it at the gas pump. With two shots, all ten cars should explode.
- You must have an RPG or grenades for this trick. All you have to do is go to the Westdyke neighborhood on the third island. It is found towards the top of the island. There is a bike shop there that has eight bikes in it. Take a bike in with you and stack them all in the corner. Then, shoot a window and shoot an RPG at the car outside. Then, just blow up the bikes. You will probably get a one star wanted level for stealing bikes then probably one or two more stars for the explosions.
- To easily unlock the "Chain Reaction" achievement, have the "Remove wanted level" code activated in your phone. Go to the "AutoEroticar" store in Alderney. There should already be a group of cars in the garage and in the lot. Stuff all the cars into the garage. As police see you breaking windows and moving cars, they will attempt to arrest you. Enable the "Remove wanted level" code to make them go away and continue to stuff the cars in the garage. Once you have ten or more, throw some grenades in the garage and you will quickly unlock the achievement. Make sure you have completed the other achievements such as "Walked free" before attempting this, because you may not be able to earn it once the code has been enabled.

Easy "Dial B for bomb", "Retail therapy", and "That's how we roll" achievements or trophies
For these achievements, get your friendship for Little Jacob, Brucie, and Packie to 76%. They will call you with the details.
Easy "Dig It" achievement or trophy
An easy way to get free toll booth passing is get a police car, fire truck, or ambulance. With any of these vehicles you can pass through any toll booth without paying the toll and avoid having the police chase you.
Easy "Finish Him" achievement or trophy

Go to the Helitours located at the bottom right-hand corner of the middle island. There are five employees wearing orange reflective vests. Start with the person that is furthest away from you. If you start fighting with the first person you see, a second one will come over and double-team you. Each person will last about two counters.
Easy "Gobble Gobble" achievement or trophy
Easy "Half million" and "You got the message" achievements or trophies
You can unlock these achievements at the same time. If you have not unlocked the "Half million" achievement via mission money, then wait until you complete the game. Completing the "You got the message" achievement will add about $400,000 to your bank account. Find all 30 car and you can then bring cars to the garage for money. Just find SUVs in the neighborhood and sell them. They will fetch $7,000 when in mint condition. If you follow these steps, you will unlock those two achievements quickly.

Keep joining and quitting matches until you are the host. Then, set the lap number to one and start a helicopter race with very few opponents.

Go to the bridge that takes you to the second island and has train tracks underneath. Walk along the tracks towards the second island before you are allowed to cross the bridge legally. When you are about half way you should gain a six star wanted level. Stand on the train tracks for five minutes to unlock the achievement. You do not have to worry about the police because they will be on the bridge above you and cannot shoot. Their helicopters are above you so you have the bridge as cover from them.
- Go to the hospital at the northwest corner of Algonquin. A fast way to get there is to die intentionally in that general area. Get a motorcycle. Set a waypoint at the hospital. Drive to the nearby bridge that takes you to the third island. For this trick to work you must not have access to the third island. Slowly reverse backwards over the barricade on the bridge until you get a six star wanted level. Then drive directly back to the hospital. As you are returning, break through the small red fence to the right of the hospital and get on the elevated train tracks. Wait there for five minutes to unlock the achievement. No cars can reach you on the train tracks and the helicopters cannot shoot accurately enough to hit you when driving the motorcycle at a decent speed.
- Attempt to enter one of the locked boroughs early to get an immediate six star wanted level by taking a car on the subway (or elevated train) tracks. This can be done easily near the corner of Grand Boulevard and Leavenworth Ave. in North Bohan near the police station. From Leavenworth, take a left onto Grand and go up the little hill. When you reach the crest of the hill, look to your left and find a very short wall above a subway tunnel. Drive a car over that short wall, then drive underground toward North Algonquin. When you have a six star wanted level, stop your car and remain there for five minutes.
- After the middle island is unlocked, steal a helicopter from the helitour site in the southeast corner. Fly over any other area you have not unlocked yet to automatically get a six star rating. Fly off the map in any direction and stay in the air. The police helicopters will only chase you so far. After five minutes you will get the achievement.
- Unlock the "Add one star to Niko's wanted level" code in your cellphone. Go to any one of your safehouses and activate that code six times then wait five minutes. Enable the "Remove Niko's wanted level" code to unlock the "One Man Army" achievement. Note: Doing this will block the "One Man Army" and "Walk Free" achievements.
- Note: You must first unlock the Heli tour option and have at least one island not unlocked. Steal a helicopter and fly to the restricted island. Fly around with a six star wanted level for five minutes. Having done this, you must then land your helicopter, but do not die. Leave the helicopter once on the ground and let yourself be shot down by the cops.
Easy "Rolled Over" achievement or trophy
- Go on the Algonquin Bridge that connects Dukes to Algonquin. Find the part where the lanes split at the bridge when going westbound. At the split is a small ramp. Hit that ramp at high speed to make your car roll over several times. Try to land in the lower area for more room to roll over.

Easy "Sightseer" achievement or trophy
Go to the Helitour section and take all three tours. You can choose to skip the tour at no penalty. After you have ridden all three, go to a safehouse and save the game. Go back to the Helitour section. The helicopters should now be in new positions. Ride a new tour. When you land again, the achievement should unlock.
Easy "Under The Radar" achievement or trophy

- Attempt to enter one of the locked boroughs early to get an immediate six star wanted level by taking a car on the subway tracks. Start picking off cops one by one. Your wanted level will rise as more of them are killed. After you get a four star wanted level, enter your car and drive into the subway tunnel. Once you leave the flashing wanted circle and your wanted level disappears, the achievement will unlock.
- Enter the restricted area in the airport, then use your driving skills to evade the police.
- Get in a taxi as a passenger. Set a waypoint that is very far away and tell him to drive there. Enable the "Add one star to Niko's wanted level" code and repeat until you have a four star wanted level. Skip the taxi ride to your destination. When you get out you should lose your wanted level and unlock the achievement.
- Go to Francis International Airport. Steal an Annihilator helicopter, but make sure that you have the four start wanted level from entering the restricted area. Fly at least as high as the Empire State Building over the city. The game will not allow you escape the police while in the stolen helicopter. When you are going fast enough and very high, jump from the helicopter and land in a body of water. You should move so fast that you leave the "circle" behind, but by landing in water you will not die.

Easy "Wheelie Rider" achievement or trophy

Go to Francis International Airport on a motorcycle. Reach full speed, then press Left Analog-stick Down to bring the front wheel up.
- Find a Faggio scooter and a straight road. Drive fast down the road and pull back on the Analog-stick to hold the wheelie. It is easy to hold the wheelie because the Faggio does not tip as easily as other motorbikes.
