Skulls
You can only claim/collect the skulls under the Normal, Heroic or Legendary difficulty settings. You must start from the beginning of the mission. You will not be able to see the skulls
if you load from a checkpoint, unless doing so after you die. In Co-op mode, as soon as one player picks the skull up, all players will receive the achievement. Not all skulls earn an achievement; only nine of them do so. To use skulls, press X at the lobby screen. This will give you a bonus multiplier for co-op and go towards earning the Guerrilla, Demon, etc. achievements.
, , and
- Black Eye Skull
- This skull's description reads "Bash your way to better health." This skull causes your shields to not regenerate until you hit an enemy with a melee attack. You do not have to kill them; just hit them with a melee attack.
- To get this skull, from the start of the "Crow's Nest" mission, without moving anything, you can see a massive pipe above you. Walk up the stairs, then up the next set. Turn to your left and jump up on the shelf unit. From there, jump to the red cross beam then up onto the pipe. From there, just walk to the end. Walk over the Black Eye Skull to claim it. You do not have to pick this skull up, it does it automatically.
- This skull's description reads "Bash your way to better health." This skull causes your shields to not regenerate until you hit an enemy with a melee attack. You do not have to kill them; just hit them with a melee attack.
- Blind Skull
- This skull's description reads "Shoot from the hip". This skull must be activated before you start a Campaign map. This skull causes you to lose your H.U.D., including the shield meter and motion sensor. You will also lose your crosshairs and cannot see what weapon you are wielding.
and - To get this skull, in the "Sierra 117" mission get to the area where you see the Phantom overhead. A Marine will point it out. Jump over the rocks and follow the path on the right. When you reach the cliff, there will be a rock over the side. The skull is at the end of the rock.
- In the "Cortana" mission, there is a time where you are in a room where you must destroy the generators. When you walk in the room there is the door you first come in. Jump on top it and you will see a ledge. Jump to it, then then grenade jump to the ceiling. This is very difficult to do. In the center is the Blind Skull (another one to find if you could not get the first one).
- This skull's description reads "Shoot from the hip". This skull must be activated before you start a Campaign map. This skull causes you to lose your H.U.D., including the shield meter and motion sensor. You will also lose your crosshairs and cannot see what weapon you are wielding.
- Catch Skull
- When this skull is activated, all enemies and allies will have two grenades and throw them often. This will also lead to the Covenant sticking themselves. Note:
- To get this skull, in the "Storm" mission go to where the first anti-air Wraith tank is located. In the that area, on the ground on the far side from where you enter, is a large gray cylinder. Take a vehicle and push a large crate to the side of it. Jump on the crate, then the silo. The skull is on the top of the silo. The Catch Skull is only on the silo if the Wraiths have not been destroyed; both must be functioning. Also, if you have a difficult time acquiring the Catch Skull, make sure that you have completed the game under the Normal or higher difficulty setting; if not the skull will not spawn.
and - Alternately, take a Warthog and park the front of it next to the cylinder. Take out a grenade (plasma recommended), and throw it at the front of the Warthog. Jump at the correct moment (usually as soon as you throw it) to get a little extra boost to your jump to get to the top to reach the Catch Skull. This may require a few attempts. Note: If you kill either of the Wraiths in the area the skull will disappear.
- Alternately, play in Co-op mode. Have a partner stand beside the building the skull is on. Jump on top of them then have them jump. At the peak of their jump, jump off of them. You will land next to the skull. Collect it then drop down to allow everyone else to get it.

- Cowbell Skull
- Using this skull will increase explosive force, similarly to the Sputnik Skull from Halo 2.
- To get this skull, in "The Ark" mission get a grav lift from the small building near where you fought the Scarab. Continue through the mission until you reach the second sloping hallway (stairway). Find the partitioned risers (platforms) halfway down. The skull is on the top level. Throw the grav-lift on the right side of the hall so that it ends up on the fourth small green dot from the door. Get a running jump and use the grav-lift to boost you to the top. You will get a checkpoint when you enter the room.
- This skull is much easier to obtained when playing in Co-Op mode. Both players should pick up a Grav Lift from the small building near where you fight the Scarab. Proceed through the level until you reach the second sloping hallway (stairway). You should see some partitioned risers (platforms) halfway down. The skull is on the top level. Toss one Grav Lift on the right side of the platforms and have the second player put a Grav Lift on top of first one. You can now jump extra high. Run, jump, and use the Grav Lift to propel yourself to the top. You should reach a checkpoint just as you enter the room; if you miss just try again. You may need one player to push the other player on the platform.
- Famine Skull
- This skull's description reads "Trust us. Bring a magazine." Dropped weapons will have less ammunition.
- To get this skull, in "The Ark" mission enter the valley to the right after the wrecked Phantom. Look to the left to find a large boulder. Use a Ghost to reach the side of the boulder that is closest to the bridge overhead. Get the Ghost up the side of the wall by using the thrust. Get two Ghosts up the wall to the top of the bridge. Stack them on top of each other next to the beam where the skull is located. Then, jump from the top of the Ghosts towards the skull and land on the beam.
- Use the following trick instead of trying to get a ghost to the Famine skull or risking your life with a grenade. Instead of going straight to it, go the way you will do later in the level with the tank (for those of you who skip that part). Kill all the enemies or until one drops a deployable cover. Go the way you would have to. When you get over the hill, destroy the Ghosts. Go under the bridge. You will see a big rock with a pathway leading up. Follow it. When you get to the top, turn to your right. It will not have a dirt ramp but a wall. Walk up to it. Notice the small ledge. Hop up and walk to the furthest to the right. Deploy the cover so that it lands about halfway down to where the bridge slopes. Do not throw too far or it go over the ledge. Hop up on top of the cover. Jump up to the narrow ledge and the skull is yours. Note: There is more than one way to jump from cover to ledge; try a few if you miss.

- Fog Skull
- This skull's description reads "You'll miss those eyes in the back of your head." You will no longer have a motion sensor.
- To get this skull, in the "Floodgate" mission while you are walking down from the anti-air gun destroyed in the last mission, you will see a ramp next to a missile launcher. Near this ramp is a checkpoint. After reaching it, you will hear a Marine yell, "There! Over there!". Look up and to the right at the roof of the building next to the missile launcher. There is a lone Flood that is holding the skull. Kill him before he jumps. He will drop the skull on the ground. Note: If you shoot too early the skull will get stuck on the roof.
- Grunt Birthday Party Skull
- This skull when activated makes Grunts explode in confetti when they are hit with a headshot. There will also be some cheering, like a birthday party.
- To get this skull, immediately after the first objective of the "Crow's Nest" mission while en route to the barracks you will fall down to a pipe. Get to the end that pipe. Look over the edge to find a small space a few feet below. Drop over then quickly pull back to land under the floor you dropped from. The skull will be at the end of this area.
- Alternately, start the Crow's Nest mission and get to the part where the drones come out of the pipes. After you kill the drones, go forward and fall into a circular room. However before you fall, get on the edge and look down. You should see another level underneath. Drop down close to the arrow and press the Analog-stick towards the second level. It is at the end of the hallway.
- This skull when activated makes Grunts explode in confetti when they are hit with a headshot. There will also be some cheering, like a birthday party.
- IWHBYD Skull
- This skull's description reads "But a dog beat him over the fence." This skull unlocks hidden dialogue when activated. If this is the thirteenth skull you have located, it will also unlock the Hayabusa Head. IWHBYD stands for "I Would Have Been Your Daddy" which is a level chapter from the original Halo.
- To get this skull, go to the last tower. Before you get to the Prophet of Truth, there are a series of bridges with Halos. Do not jump through any yet. First, kill the Prophet and clear the bridges of enemies. Then jump through the Halos in this order, with "1" being the entrance and "7" being the end near where the Prophet was located: 4, 6, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4. Note: You can also use the longer sequence of 4, 5, 6, 5, 7, 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 2, 7, 2, 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 5, 4, 5, 3, 4. This is much easier in Co-op mode with three or four people. This is the Halo theme if it was played on a phone by dialing the numbers. If done properly, the Halos will start flashing. If the Halos do not flash, revert to your last saved game. The skull is near the Prophet's ramp.

- Iron Skull
- This skull's description reads "Death carries a heavy price...". This skull causes you to start from the beginning of the current level when you die. If playing in co-op mode, the death of any player will cause everyone to start from the most recent chapter.
- To get this skull, after freeing Johnson and killing all the Covenant that come in the Phantoms in the "Sierra 117" mission, walk to the Pelican that arrives to pick you up. Face the cargo bay, but instead of hopping in turn left and follow the path. Once you hit the wall, jump up to your right to eventually reach a walkway. Walk all the way to the end. Take a left, then a right. At the end of this a little bit to the right is a dark corner. Press Up to turn your light on and you should see the skull. If you cannot see it you are probably standing on it.

Jump on top if it then go up on the rocks to the top left. Turn to the left and jump up again. Turn 180 degrees and jump to the rocks across from you. Then, follow the rock that is sticking out and leads up on top of the original circular room. The skull can be found in a pool of blood.

There are two endings. One is viewed when the game is completed under the Easy, Normal, or Heroic difficulty settings. The second ending is shown when the game is completed in Legendary mode.
Note: Instead of playing through the entire campaign under the Legendary difficulty setting to see the full ending, just complete the second part of the final mission under the Legendary difficulty setting.
Bonus downloadable content
Successfully complete the game under Legendary difficulty setting to get bonus pictures and a "Making of" video from Xbox Live.
