  • Play your way through to where you get your starter. Choose Chimchar (recommended) or any other starter. Work your way to where you have two badges and get some decent Pokemon and trade for the other two starters. You should now have all three starters. Next, get a Gastly because you can use Cut (from the second gym). Somewhere around here you can find Pokemon from levels 7 to 11. Get Starly and Shinx for a total of six Pokemon. There are some Pokemon that can be doubled. On Turtwig, you can get a Budew (Roserade after evolution). For Water, take Gyaradose. For Electric, get Shinx (Luxray), but you can always get Pikachu. If you did not get Gastly (Gengar), get an Abra. The original team gives you so many options on attacks that you can almost always have an advantage.
  • Use the following team to defeat the Elite Four.
Staraptor (level 100)
Torterra (level 100)
Infernape (level 100)
Palkia (level 100)
Azelf (level 100)
Mesprit (level 100)
  • Try the following team.
Staraptor (level 60)
Azelf (level 100)
Torterra (level 60)
Palkia (level 69)
Uxie (level 80)
Azelf (level 69)
  • Use the following team for the Battle Tower Double Battle.
  • The first is Torterra with the Lonely Nature. Make sure it has the moves Frenzy Plant, Wood Hammer, Earthquake, and Giga Drain. Also give it the item Big Root. You can use Earthquake to take out most types of Pokemon and you can use Giga Drain on weaker Water-, Ground-, or Rock-type Pokemon to regain most of your health back. Wood Hammer is an effective attack, dealing massive damage against things you cannot hit with Earthquake. Frenzy Plant can be used to kill strong Pokemon without dealing with recoil damage.
  • Next, have a Bronzong with Levitate as its ability and Quiet as its nature. Give it Gyro Ball, Extrasensory or Psychic, Future Sight, and Hypnosis. Also give it Full Incense or some other item that makes it slower. Because of how slow Bronzong is, Gyro Ball should deal considerable damage to anything that is weak against Steel-type moves. You can use Future Sight to damage Pokemon that use Protect too much, and Hypnosis for Pokemon that are dealing too much damage. Note that fire is this Bronzong's only weakness. A strong Psychic-type attack such as Extrasensory or Psychic allows you to deal a lot of damage to most types of Pokemon. Because Bronzong has Levitate you will be able to use your Torterra's Earthquake without damaging any of your own Pokemon. This also allows you to eliminate the threat of Fire-type Pokemon.
  • Another great combo for a Double Battle would be Magnezone and Milotic. Make sure that Magnezone has the Quiet nature, and if possible, try to level him up with the Power Lens equipped. This should give your Magnezone an extremely high Special Attack. Teach it Thunder, Lock-On, Charge Beam, and Mirror Shot. You may alternate Mirror Shot with Magnet Rise as well. Give the Magnezone the Magnet to increase the effect of its Lightning type moves, giving Magnezone the maximum possible damage.
  • Have the Milotic know Rain Dance, Aqua Ring, Ice Beam, and Water Pulse or Surf. Make sure that your Milotic is holding the Damp Rock. This increases the duration of Rain Dance. If you use have Milotic use Rain Dance, your Magnezone's Thunder will have 100% accuracy until Rain Dance fades. Having an extended duration of Rain Dance means that you have seven or eight turns that you will have a Milotic with boosted water attacks and Magnezone can continue to use Thunder with 100% accuracy. Using Charge Beam will also increase the power of Magnezone's Thunder. Lock-On will guarantee that Thunder will hit if you are unable to use Rain Dance, and Magnet Rise will prevent you from being damaged by Ground type moves. If you choose Mirror Shot, you can reduce the opponent's accuracy while dealing Steel-type damage. Aqua Ring allows your Milotic to regain hit points, while Ice Beam and Surf allow you to deal massive Water and Ice-type damage.
  • Use the following team to complete the Pokemon League easily.
Infernape, Empoleon, or Torterra (level 68)
Honchcrow or Staraptor (level 62)
Gabite or Garchomp (level 66)
Leafeon (level 64)
Umbreon (level 64)
Flareon (level 64)
  • Try the following team.
Heatran (level 76)
Torterra (level 77)
Girtina (level 79)
Luxray (level 84)
Rayquaza (level 84)
Palkia (level 95)
  • Try the following team.
Sableye (any level)
Spiritomb (any level)
Darkrai (any level): Dark Void, Nightmare, Shadow Ball
Charizard (any level)
Metagross (any level)
Pidgeoto (any level)
  • The following is a good start-up team. Choose any of the starter Pokemon as your first and train it to be a decent level; it will be your only Pokemon until Valley Windworks. At Valley Windworks, catch Drifloon (Ghost/Flying type). To catch this Pokemon, go to Valley Windworks on a Friday. If you have patience, try to get a female Combee (Bug/Flying type). This will evolve at level 21 to a Vespiquen which can learn a variety of move types. The only way to get this Pokemon is to smear honey on trees and wait six to seven hours. Herecross (Bug/Fighting type) is also a decent Pokemon, but is harder to find then Combee. After defeating Gardinia go to Wayward Cave to catch a Bronzor (Steel/Phy. type). This Pokemon is a good for fighting at the Ice gym because most of the other members of the team will be weak against ice. At this point, continue until you get the strength and the Mine Badge. Iron Island is a good place to train as long as Riley is there to help. Return to Wayward Cave to catch a Gible (Dragon/Ground type). There is a secret entrance under the bicycle path where you can also get Earthquake. After this point your team should be made up of the following. Note: Dialga is a useful Pokemon for the sixth slot as it is a Steel and Dragon type. Lucario is also good for filling this slot.
Starter Pokemon (Torterra, Emplion, Enfernape)
Driftblim (Ghost/Flying)
Vespiquen (Bug/Flying)
Bronzong (Steel/Phy.)
Garchomp (Dragon/Ground)
Random pokemon (for HM moves or other reason)
