In the Blast To The Stone Pillar mission, it is possible to get the star without having to perfectly aiming the cannon. To do this, enter the level as Mario and get the "?" box. You will get the flower and be able to float. Quickly float over the ledge with the star. If timed correctly, you will run out of floating power and fall directly on the ledge. Grab the star and you are done.
