Hints

Move faster

Get one of the first Warrior path skills. This is unlocked at level 6 or 7 by spending points into the Witcher path. The Warrior skill allows you to dodge further distances. Level 1 is 100% and level 2 is 200%. Take out Geralt's sword and begin rolling when in a wide open area or deserted portion of a city. You will be able to travel faster than normal. If timed precisely you can roll without pausing between rolls. Note: Having your sword out will draw the attention of the guards.

Assassin's Creed references

  • During the "Prologue - Barricade" mission, where you must destroy a gate by using a ballista, drop down the wall to a series of scaffolding then reach the ground. Fight several soldiers from the rebellion group and make your way to the guarded ballista. Kill the enemies and clear the square, then go further back from the ballista and look to your right, beside a house. You will find a dead man dressed in a white robe with a red belt laying face down on top of a broken hay wagon (a reference to Altair Ibnu La Ahad). Look up to see a wooden ledge with a bird, which is where an assassin would usually survey the surroundings (synchronize) and perform the leap of faith. Geralt will say "I guess they never learn".
  • You can also get a hidden ability named "Assassin" that gives a damage bonus on the attack that lands on enemy's back, This is a reference to the back stab assassination in Assassin's Creed.

Easy "Eagle Eye" achievement or trophy

Save the game. While shooting under Count Etcheverry, if you fail, reload the saved game and shoot again.

Easy "Friend of Trolls" achievement or trophy

There are four trolls at the following locations. You must complete their side quests. Note: If you side with Roche, you will encounter the pair of trolls towards the end of the chapter while travelling with Roche to the Battle of Vergen. Note: That is Geralt's second trip to Vergen during the chapter. You may not encounter the always hostile troll if you side with Iorveth in Chapter 2.

  • One under the bridge in Chapter 1. You must help him get on the wagon by killing Dmitri. Recovering his mate's head is optional.
  • A male and female pair in the ravines on the Iorveth side of the mist in Chapter 2. You must reunite them.
  • A rogue on the Roche side of the mist in Chapter 2 that is always hostile. It does not affect earning "Friends of Trolls".

Easy "Man of the Shadows" achievement

During the "Indecent Proposal" quest, you will go to Loredo's compound. After handling the ballista, Roche will send you around the back to look around. While planning with Roche, a man will interject that the Kayran trap part is also back there. You have to go into the back and not be seen by any of the five guards. This may be easier to accomplish if you knock the guards out. There are two guards on the side of the building, and three others in the backyard. When you reach the second guard by the gate, wait a few seconds and he will begin to urinate and be an easy knock out target. The other four guards follow a simple pattern. The Kayran trap part can be found in a walled section towards the front of the compound.

Easy "Miser" achievement

This can be done by the middle of Chapter 2 under the easier difficulty settings. Do not purchase anything except for quest requirements. Wait until you find swords and armor instead of buying them. Search all containers, loot all corpses, and hoard everything using storage chests to keep items. After settling in during the first two chapters, loot all of the residents in Flotsam and Vergen/Henselt's Camp. You can do this, even when the residents are home. Complete all arm wrestling and fist fighting side quests. Dice poker may be more difficult because it is random, however you can save and reload if you lose.

Easy "Trollslayer" achievement or trophy

There are four trolls at the following locations. You must kill them instead of completing their side quests.

  • A male and female pair in the ravines on the Iorveth side of the mist in Chapter 2.
  • A rogue on the Roche side of the mist in Chapter 2 that is always hostile.

Easy "Winter Solstice" achievement

The Winter Shrine is an area on the ground which can be activated using your medallion while standing on it. Afterwards, you will permanent get the ability to have a 20% chance to completely freeze an opponent when using the Aard sign. The shrine is located in Act III in either storyline path.

  • If you sided with Iorveth, you will pass it while first gaining access to Loc Muinne. When walking next to the ruined aqueduct, instead of following Iorveth over the gap in the walls into the city, follow the path up the hill to your right. The shrine can be found at the top.
  • If you sided with Roache, when you first approach the city with him, choose the option to remain behind and explore the area outside the city. Search the area behind you to find an underground cavern. It eventually leads to the same path found during the Iorveth's alliance. You can enter the city through the ruins after fighting some gargoyles, or you can backtrack through the caves and pass through the main entrance.

If you missed the Winter Shrine the first time, the area will still be accessible from the main city. Walking the route through the ruins in reverse. If you completed the Gargoyle contract side-quest, one of the encounters is directly next to this entrance. It is found to the left of the main entrance, in a courtyard with a well in the center.
