The best way to get easy money in free ride mode is in the countryside on the main road (where the few stores are located). Speed down that road (with the governor off) to collect basically $100 per second.

Hint: Win the race:
Drive up to the first checkpoint and slow down. Behind the boulders is a short patch of sand where you can drive onto the closed road. This of course is the "wrong way" and if you plan to go through it, you will be faster but not complete the lap. You will not win unless you do the following. Drive up to the end of the road, just past the "Dunniel" (or something similar) sign, where you get your checkpoint information and select "Replace Car" (default is [Keypad 0]). The goal is now just a few inches away. You must to do this five times. By doing so, you can finish the race in a little less than six minutes. Note: Make sure you do not crash on the closed road as the "Replace Car" might not work there, or will place you back to the first checkpoint.

If you have a steering wheel, map it quick. Gun it all the way on the first lap. Just get in the first place position by the finishing straight. You can now go safely to the finish line. On the large banked corner at the end, go very close to the wall as you will lose less speed.

Switch to manual gear (default is M) just after you get past the stuck car. The gear then should switch to second , You would see the number "2" in the square in the middle of your speedometer. Remain in second gear until the end of the race. Slow down before turns (either release the key or brake before sharp turns). You still need a lot of practice and must know the track in order to finish first. Also, if you are not at least fifth place after the first lap and at least third place after the second lap, start over. This will save a lot of time.

Hint: Shoot off tires:
Aiming at tires and shooting where the bolts are, in the middle. This works best with the Tommy gun.

Hint: Vehicle kill zones:
When taking out a vehicle, the following are the easiest and quickest ways to do so. Direct hits to the radiator in most cars will blow them up with two or three shots with the sawed-off shotgun, which is the weapon of choice. Some other good spots to hit are the front right, front left, and rear (central rear panel where gas tank would be located).

While driving through the city, you will encounter many police officers. You can run one of them down and pick up his standard issued gun. Your wanted level will go up, but immediately diminish. This works best if there is only one police officer, on foot, with no police officer witnesses.

Hint: Lose cops quickly:
Get to a rail station, elevated rail station, or trolley. Get in and wait until your wanted level goes down.

The most efficient way to evade the police is make a lot of turns. The best turns are in front of or behind another car or the trolley. The police will try to make your exact turn, but will run into the car or trolley. You can also make turns between light posts close to the curb if your car is small or short enough. This also works well during the first mission.

If you have a gun and the cops are after you, you can get rid of them by shooting them. This takes some practice, but it can be done. You have to be on foot. Shoot both cops until their weapons fall. Head shots work best. If you manage to kill both advancing officers, you will no longer be wanted. This works best if there is only one car after you (the offense does not matter). The more the cars, the more difficult it is.

Hint: An Offer You Can't Refuse: Lose the gangsters:
When you first start driving, go all the way down the road and take a right. Follow this road. This will lead you to where there is only a right turn. Take the turn. Looking left, there seems to be a small barrier blocking the ocean. At the beginning of the turn there is actually a hidden bottom where you can drive. If you slow down to about 50 or 60 miles per hour, drive over the barrier. By going slow enough, you can land at the bottom drive part. The enemy gangsters will not slow down. They will follow you over the barrier. If they have the correct angle or speed, they will fly into the ocean or land upside down. If you have not gone over the ocean or flipped over, there is a ramp where you can escape the gangsters and finish the level. Note: This may require a few attempts.

Hint: Better Get Used To It: Bucket weapon:
Vincenzo gives you a bat and a gun. Turn around and pick up the bucket that is in the room. You can use it as a weapon, and it is easier to control than the bat.

Hint: Créme de la Créme: Killing Morello:
When you get to the countryside, keep a distance from Morello's car. He will then pass the airport. Keep following him out to the bridge near the Lay-By. You will see that it is under construction. An intermission sequence where Tommy pushes Morello's car out over the bridge will begin, and the mission will be completed. On the level that you assassinate the politician, at the end before you leave the prison, make sure you have killed everyone then waste all of your ammunition. By doing this, when you walk out into the street the man that searches you will say "You're clean. Sorry to waste your time", and you can get to the bar without being chased.

Kill the man guarding the manhole that is used to gain access to the prison. Stand next to his body, press Action, and select "Hide Body". There will be no police waiting for you when you come out of the prison.

Hint: Just For Relaxation: Getting the cigar crates:
When the boss tells you he is going to the bathroom, follow him. He will walk up to a tree. Take out the crowbar you got from the truck driver then hit the boss. He will usually go down with one swing. Then, walk back to the cigar crates. The man with the Thompson does not know that the crate should not be touched. Then, just drive the truck back to Paulie and Sam.

When you go to find Frank's family, they are in a building. They are standing next to a phone. There is a man in the phone booth. He is calling the police because he heard gunshots. If you shoot him before the end of the phone call, the police will not be in the parking lot, and you can just drive away.

Hint: Ordinary Routine: Easier mission:
You can save some effort by shooting the tires on the getaway car before you try to enter the hotel. It is much easier than trying to shoot them while driving at the same time.

First, aim at the center bolt of a wheel on the yellow car and shoot a tire off. Then, go in the room labeled "WC". No one is in there. Get the Tommy gun from the bed. On the wall is health for Sam. Do not take it. Instead, wait outside the toilet and you will hear a flush. Kill the man who comes out of the toilet, then turn round and wait for men to reach the top of the stairs. Kill them all. Go down the stairs and kneel down. Then, kill everyone in the snooker room. Next, go back up and get the health. Get the Tommy gun from behind the counter, then go in the room with no door to find Sam. An intermission sequence will begin. Kill the fat man, Another intermission sequence will start, with a man trying to get away with your money. However, he will not get in the car because of the missing tire missing. Shoot him with your Tommy to complete the mission

Hint: Ordinary Routine: Extra health:
If you are having problems completing the motel part of the mission, use the following trick to get extra health. If you go into the second door on the right in the hall, after you have already broken into the hotel from the back, walk straight forward. Then, turn to your right. You will see another door. Go into this door and you will see a medicine cabinet. Press [Action] at the medicine cabinet to receive 30 more health points. Try saving them until you absolutely need it. Later in the mission you must put up with some fists of fury after already enduring punches and bullets.

When you enter the dock, get a truck and drive to the other entrance to the harbor. Nearby, there is a house with a man. Kill him. He has a US rifle, which you should use to shoot the round fuel containers near the crane towers. The snipers will not shoot you, and you will get to see a really great fireworks display.

When you have to take Pauly to kill Segerio Morello and must escape instead of running, get out of the car and kill all of your enemies. Search all their bodies. From one of them, you will get a Thomson 1928 which is useful at the harbor.

Hint: Free Lassiteer V16 roadster:
Go into free ride mode and choose City-Small and any car. Drive around in the "working quarters" (the industrial district) until you find a two story car park (garage) next to a building with a sign that reads "Lost Heaven Hardware Co.". Drive up the ramp to the second level. In the corner, there should be a large green car. Walk over and get in. It is unlocked and you do not need to know how to steal it in order to so. This car is fast and is very rare. You will receive money for driving it dangerously fast without crashing. If you do crash, it is very durable and will be able to withstand a lot of damage. If you have trouble finding it, it is the cement two level car-park in the work quarters next to a main road with trolley tracks running on it. This is also the main road that goes under the train tracks and runs past the grain silos.

Go to free ride mode and go to the countryside. You will start in some dirt and. To the right, there will be a hill. Go up the hill and follow the road. Keep going straight until you reach a bridge. Go straight for awhile until you see a small brown shack on your left. Notice that next to the shack is an opening in the fence. Drive right off. It is big cliff. If you land wrong you can die on impact.

Glitch: Go through building and ground:
Choose the Hot Rod, which is unlocked through Free Ride Extreme. Set the Traffic Density to 0 and select City-Daytime. Spawn at Hoboken, then immediately drive straight and left. Follow the road along on the last lane to the right. When you go onto the straightaway, go as fast as you can. Keep going onto the field. Then, hit the train tracks going at top speed. If done correctly, you should fly into the building. However, instead of crashing, you should go through it. You should then go through the ground afterwards. You will be stuck and your car should begin spinning. The only way to exit is to restart Free Ride by quitting the game.

Glitch: Lassiter v16 Fordor in free ride mode:
To get the Lassiter v16 Fordor, you must have unlocked the first Lassiter you get (after the race). At the main menu, select "Free Ride", then the car menu. Click on the "L" of the Lassiter model. Notice that the Fordor model is selected, but it is faded. This is because when you open up a new menu the game selects the first thing on the selection. Do not select "Done". Instead, press [Enter]. Also, make sure not to hover the pointer over the "Done" button. It will be available in free ride mode. The Fordor model has more horsepower than the first Lassiter that you start with.
