Faster cars:
Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "cars.ini" file in the "cars" sub-folder in the game directory. Change the "mass=" value to "100" for a faster car.

Open the folder of a powerful car, such as the F1, F50, etc. Copy the "car.ini" file from here and paste it over the original "car.ini" file of a slower car in its own folder (for example, the Elise). This instantly gives that car the speed and handling characteristics of the better vehicle. Note: Back up the original "car.ini" file of the slower car in the event that you want to revert it back to its standard settings.

For fast moving police cars, edit the "car_cop.ini" file and change the "mass=" value to "100".

Use the following trick to boost your car's speed upon reset. Note: This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "racetune.ini" file in the "ai" sub-folder in the game directory. Find the "Player.ResetSpeedMPH=" line and change its value to 150 or more, but less than 350 or 400. Using too high a value will result in your car becoming unstable for several seconds. Whenever you are bashed against a wall, an obstruction, or something similar, press [Reset] and your car will go off at rocket speed. Note: The line "Player.ResetSpeedMPH=" occurs more than three times in the "racetune.ini" file for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels; as well as for beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels in cop mode. You can also intentionally bash the wall if you are losing the race and press the [Reset] to go flying.

Every folder, except the ones prefixed with a "t" (for example, tbus), has several .ini files. One sets tuning and data for the normal player car (car.ini), one is for NPC cops (car_cop.ini), another is for the NFS version of that car (car_hp.ini), and the last one is for NPC racers (carracer.ini). For very fast cars with very good handling, it should look similar to:

Edit the bolded lines. Change the "Mass" to "100", "AeroDragCoefficient" to "0", and "UnderBodyDragCoefficient" to "0". Do this in the "car.ini" and "car_hp.ini" and the normal and NFS versions of whatever vehicle you choose will both be unbeatable by normal NPCs. However, if you want the cops to beat everyone, change those values in the "car_cop.ini" file. If you want a guarantee failure in a "fair" race, change the mentioned values in the "carracer.ini" file. However, because of the RPMs limit put on every car, the NFS version of a car now has only a few mph higher top speed. You will be surprised at the acceleration. Just steer clear of other cars. They are heavier and will toss you aside like a leaf.

In Be The Cop mode, whenever you request for a roadblock it will be activated instantly and appear suddenly. The criminal will be busted instantly.

In Be The Cop mode while pursuing a criminal, press the helicopter key (N) and it will be activated instantly and will fly for the number of seconds you set, thus nabbing the criminal easily.

By doing this, the police will no longer be able to chase you.

Slowed or stopped opponents:
This procedure involves editing a game file; create a backup copy of the file before proceeding. Use a text editor to edit the "racetune.ini" file in the "ai" sub-folder in the game directory. When you open the file you will see six game modes ([Beginner], [Intermediate], [Advanced], [Beginner_copMode], etc). Copmodes are defined for Hotpursuit and Single Challenge (driving with cops on) and Other modes for Championship and Single Challenge (driving without cops). Under each mode there is a variable called "Racer.OverallSpeedFactor=0.80" . Set its value to 0.5 or 0.2 (for example,, "Racer.OverallSpeedFactor=0.50 "). This will reduce your opponent's speed considerably, and you can easily win the race. You can use any value within 0 to 1 for that variable. Setting "Racer.OverallSpeedFactor=0" will stop your opponents. Note: There are a number of variables in "racetune.ini" file that can be modified for making new cheats as desired. Usage of each variable is stated at bottom of the file.

Hint: Extra points:

Race and get third place. When you get third place and collect your points, restart the race. Only this time, get second place. Collect your points, restart the race, and get first place. You now have the points of all three places and more than if you had just gotten first place the first time.

Hint: Police check:
If you have the Rear Mirror option on, you should see a meter (radar detection meter) at the bottom of it. If you do not see this meter, it indicates that there are no police in the current race. Hint: Yellow stars:
On the upper-right corner of the screen are four star shadows. Each time you break a law or do something bad, you will get a yellow star. For example, a hit-and-run is two stars. If you get four yellow stars, you should beware of roadblocks, including the choppers.

Hint: Get the police off your tail:
If you have one or two police chasing you, swerve around things such as incoming traffic, trees, poles, or any other immobilized objects. The police may not see it and crash into it. This gives you an advantage to lose them. If you are way ahead of the pack and do not feel like having a police on your tail, if your radar detector detects an incoming radar (or police), zoom on the road in front of you. See where the police are parked, and slam into the back of their car. It will be a hit and run, but the police car will be dead. You will not even get a yellow star.

When you want to get rid of the cop chasing you at a close distance, get just behind him so that your front tire is touching his back tire. Then, turn your car slightly in the direction of the cop car. The officer will get turned around and end up facing in the wrong direction. This should give you enough time to get away. If you are really lucky, he may hit the other racers and cause a big accident.

When you reach a certain point in a police chase, the cops will try to disable your vehicle using tire shredding spikes in roadblocks. Listen to the police chatter on the radio. A unit will say what side of the road the spikes are on when they are set. Then when you reach that roadblock, smash through the barricade on the side without spikes. If the unit does not specify what side the spikes are on, then assume they are across the entire road. In this case you will have to ram through one of the police cars on either side of the strip to get past it safely, or go around the entire roadblock if there is room or take an alternate route. If you hit the strip, you will have no chance of getting away without a ticket.

Drive close to traffic or through narrow spaces and near obstacles while police pursue you. They will usually swerve back and forth behind you, and there is a good chance they will blindly smash into anything you drive close to. Most of the time if they hit a wall, tree, or oncoming traffic at high speed, their car will be totaled. This may also happen if they slide into guard rails hard enough or too many times. Also, when coming up on a police car, if you are far ahead of the other racers you can ram the cop. If you are traveling fast enough and hit their side you can total them, leaving you with less trouble to deal with later. Note: Wrecked cruisers will call for a tow truck and re-spawn on the track. Totaling them just helps to get them off your back temporarily.

Hint: Get rid of police helicopters:
Find a dividing road. Shortcuts work perfectly. When the helicopter is in front of you, it will follow the main road. It will not switch roads after it is on one. Go on the other road, and the helicopter will be gone.

Hint: Calling for help:
In Be The Cop mode, when you start press H then one of the following keys to get assistance if the enemy gets away. Note: You can only do each of these three times.

Hint: Predict police actions:
Turn the "Speech" option on high in the "Audio" screen when the police are on your tail, especially when police may be present on the race course. Be aware that the police may say something about roadblocks and where they are, as well as what they may try to do to end your speeding frenzy.

Hint: Police detection:
When you are driving, be aware of the shadowed bar below the rearview mirror. It will start to climb with green and then red as you close in on a cop. If a cop is already chasing you and has issued a roadblock, watch the bar. If the strip started with yellow, it indicates that a road block is approaching.

Hint: No police:
If you drive backwards on any track you will not see any police.

Hint: Easy arrests in be-the-cop mode:
Do not turn on your sirens right away. Sneak up on them. When you are on them, turn on your sirens, spin them out, turn around, and hit them head on. This will result in a one hit bust every time.

Hint: Easy wins in single event:
When you are directly next to someone in a race and they are getting chased by a cop, if they are in front of you slow down to where you are directly behind them on either the left or the right. Slowly speed up to where the hood of your car is on the side next to their trunk. Very quickly slam into their car to make them spin out of control. If they are too slow, they will be caught by the cop. After this happens, continue to do this until you are the only one remaining.

Hint: Easy Quota races:
To win the many Quota races do the following. When you see the car you are chasing, do not put your sirens on immediately because the car will try to escape. Wait until you are directly behind him, then put your sirens on. By doing this you can catch the car faster. This works 95% of the time.

Hint: Ferrari 360 Challenge:
You must complete all events in Ultimate Racer and World Championship modes. Complete Bonus Event 31 for both to unlock Super Bonus Event 32. Either Event 32 in Ultimate Racer or World Championship modes will unlock the same car. Complete Event 32 successfully and the Ferrari 360 Challenge is yours.

Hint: Clean race:
There will be two objectives you will have to do to unlock two kinds of cars. These two involve clean racing. For a clean race, avoid hitting any object that inflicts damage on your car, such as hitting another car, a wall, etc. Hitting road signs, going offroad, or landing very hard on big jumps are excluded since those do not do any damage.

Hint: Slow opponents down:
All of your opponents can be scared. If your opponents are directly besides you, suddenly steer towards them, as if you were trying to ram their car off the road. They will panic and veer away from your sudden move. If you are lucky, they may veer away too much, thus causing them to crash into an object, slowing them down. You can also do this to police that are on your tail.

Another way to slow down opponents is to get behind their car and ram it 180 degrees from the bottom left or right of it. Note: This can also be done to cops.

Hint: Traffic pulls over for you:
Choose a cop car in challenge mode. In the race, turn the sirens on. The cars will pull over.

Hint: License plate number:
Go into race or go to the showcase. In the race, switch to the near view; in the showcase zoom into the car from behind. The license plate will read "ND 4 SPD" (Need For Speed).

Hint: Need For Speed: High Stakes reference:
Select the Mediterranean Paradise track. There will be a section of the road while going around the canyon where you will go through a small stone tunnel. This tunnel is similar to the one that a Porche 911 Turbo and a Ferrari 550 Marenello are racing though on the cover of Need for Speed: High Stakes. Also, the large stone bridge you travel over before crossing the finish line is modeled after the large stone bridge in the Need For Speed: High Stakes track "Celtic Ruins."
