Hint: Easy money:
Play the game in two player mode. Quit on controller two at the starting line of every race. Use player one to win the races in the entire division. You will then be asked if you want to "leave your loser friend behind" and go to the next level. Select "No" and you can start the division again and keep the money you earned from winning, lapping bonus, attack bonus, and pickups in each race. Make a note of the password for player one under the options menu when you are done playing to continue later. You can also enter the same password for both players and race in two player mode with both using the same racers and colors.
