Defeating Nemesis (hard difficulty)

by CHSMiKe2000

OK. You need this. Survival tips. You should review these before you even think of playing, so pay attention!

1) CONSERVE AMMUNITION
I cannot stress that enough. Ammo is SCARCE in Hard mode. And I'm not playing games with you, it is SCARCE. The term Survival Horror will take a whole new meaning. I recommend saving Bazooka rounds specifically for The Nemesis, preferably Freeze and Flame. And if you think the ammo is bad, wait until you start looking for Health items.

2) DON'T BE STUPID!
If you know you can't fight Nemesis, RUN! RUN! RUN! You can avoid needless wastes of ammo and health by simply running away..........though I'd recommend you be quick about it, since he follows you into 85% of the rooms in the game. If you are trying to get the special weapon mods from Nemesis, then fight him. But if you are looking to merely survive, I strongly recommend that you run WHENEVER AND WHEREVER POSSIBLE!

3) USE UNDEAD SHIELDS!
Nemesis will stop at NOTHING to get Jill. He will go through ANYTHING in the game. Use this to your advantage. If you know Nemesis is on your tail, get into a room with a lot of zombies. Wait for them to crowd near the door he enters. They will provide temporary cover, and I do mean TEMPORARY. Nemesis is relentless and can dispatch a large group of zombies in little over 5 seconds. I personally witnessed him decapitate 3 zombies with a single punch!

4) CHECK FOR ITEMS!
If you do put down Nemesis, CHECK HIS BODY! He holds awesome weapon parts and much needed items that, while unnecessary for the completion of the game, will make it much easier for you in the long run!

5) DON'T BE FOOLED!
Just because you put Nemesis down, doesn't mean he'll stay there. to successfully put a stop to Nemesis, you MUST drop him twice in one fight. If you hear smashing going around in another room, don't go into it. If you must, be prepared to run. Oh, and just because you use an environmental defense against nemesis(Ex. electrocuting him) doesn't mean he's finished with you.....

6) DON'T FIGHT NEMESIS ALL THE TIME!
Every time you put down Nemesis, he appears in a NEW location, and he is much angrier, stronger, faster, and meaner. I went from dropping him with 14 magnum shots to having to use 32 magnum shots just to drop him on the floor for the first time!

7) WATCH OUT FOR THE ROCKET LAUNCHER!
Nemesis sometimes comes equipped with a Rocket Launcher. Typically two or three hits do you in the first time.....but if you keep wasting him each time you meet him....his Launcher is tougher....one hit can kill you...and it is rapid fire........KEEP IN MIND! Nemesis ONLY HAS 4-6 ROCKETS AT ANY GIVEN TIME! After #5(the average amount he has), he will most likely discard the launcher. Try to avoid until he does so!

8) PREPARE FOR THE CLOCK TOWER!?
The battle with Nemesis at the clock tower is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT and may take some time to beat. CONSERVE AS MUCH AMMO AS POSSIBLE for your Grenade Launcher and Mine Launcher(if you have them, otherwise you're screwed). BE CAREFUL! This is a NO TURNING BACK situation. If you don't have enough ammo or health to get you through this fight, there is NO ESCAPE. It is a no win situation and you must either start from another save point or be very skillful at fighting him. REMEMBER TO BE CAREFUL! I personally was killed 73 times before I could beat him at this part....but I had little or no ammo and health. Don't let that happen to you!

9) KEEP IN MIND!

a) Nemesis is smart, but can be fooled rather easily
b) DON'T go into a place where there is no escape if an option screen comes up (Ex. Basement)
c) The dodge maneuver, though tricky, is VERY handy when fighting him.
d) Nemesis can dodge too
e) Nemesis grows stronger every time....twice as strong for everytime you kill him
f) Nemesis will not always appear in the same places...

These are a few tips I learned from experience... I hope they are useful!

Defeating Nemesis Type B (hard difficulty)

1) LOWER HP
You will find that defeating Nemesis Type-B is somewhat easier than defeating him in his A-type form, only because his HP are somewhat lower than his previous form. You will only need to knock him down once. If you have the Rocket Launcher cheat, it takes only 1 rocket to defeat him (Note: This does not apply to mercenary mode. You may have to use 2-5 rockets to defeat Type-B in Merc. mode, assuming you encounter him!) Don't be fooled, because what Nemesis lacks in HP, he makes up in....

2) INSANE STRENGTH!
Nemesis is very difficult to have a standing fight with in his second form. His NE-T Virus infector tentacles are now hanging out of his arms and body. He can now wrap them around your feet and drag you to him, stopping you from running away(usually within 5 steps of him). He also whips them violently at you, causing a severe blow that may bring you to your knees(generally within 4-5 steps). His deadlist attack would have to be his "Grab and Smash" move. He wraps his tentacle around you and violently slams to to the ground three times in a row(Generally within 3-6 steps away). This is a highly damaging attack and is also his "finishing move". Nemesis is also VERY, VERY FAST. Run if you can!

3) ITEM DROPS
Nemesis will still drop Items in this form, so even if you got all the special weapons, and you must really insist on fighting him, always check him! The final item he drops is Infinite Ammo for ONE WEAPON ONLY. You choose which weapon to use it with(I recommend the magnum). Nemesis will ONLY drop Infinite Ammo if you have defeated him EVERY TIME you encounter him, excluding the encounter with Carlos.

4) NO NE-T VIRUS
Nemesis, although he uses his tentacles to attack, cannot infect you with the NE-T Virus, so don't worry about it. The Virus Infection was only a part of the story.

5) THE FINAL BATTLE WITH NEMESIS
Personal Note(please print): The following battle about to be described refers to the last time you encounter Nemesis Type-B. The final form, the blob, I feel is a terrible boss and I just do not consider it to be Nemesis anymore.

This is a tough fight, but the game makes it ambiguously clear what to do. There are valves which release what seems to be acid all around the Disposal Facility. The trick is to lure Nemesis to the valves and use the R2-Object Targeter to fire them when Nemesis is within ONE step of the valve. BE CAREFUL! Nemesis is VERY INTELLIGENT and he will quickly evade the acid. If you hit the acid too early, he will also back up until the acid recedes and will then proceed to charge you. Your regular weapons have minimal effect, but they can be used to beat him. After dumping the acid on Nemesis twice, he will lose his head. His brain is not in his head, which explains the scar all around it and the fact that he is still alive. It will then take a wad of ammo or one more acid shower to put him down for good. If you decide to cheat and use the R. Launcher, disregard this whole strategy and shoot him. It'll take about 3 shots. Thanks for wasting my time.

Note: If you look carefully around the disposal facility, you will see many discarded and dead Bio-Weapons! Among those which are identifiable is a juvenile alligator, a large blob-like monster, a few tyrants, and many dead scientists.

6) DEFEATING "THE BLOB"
Although this things just shouldn't be called Nemesis, it is still a somewhat tough battle. To do this, you must first enter the Rail Cannon room. Notice that the rest of the "Mr. X" Tyrants from the chopper are scattered dead around the room!!! Even the final Tyrant form, which comes into play in a moment.... Go to the back of the room and activate the console, which will prompt you to push the three batteries into the other console. After activiating the first one, "Blob" will appear. It will feast on the Tyrant form of Mr. X and grow HUGE. You must then run away and push the remaining batteries in the console. It is at this point that the cannon will activate, shooting a hole through the generator in the center of the room. The only thing left to do is to wait for the countdown and lure Blob into the middle of it so it will get shot. You then have to options: Kill the creature or leave. No matter which one you pick, you have one the game. Though it is cool to watch Jill kill the creature execution style.

OTHER THINGS:
Different Clock Tower Nemesis fight:
If you hit the brake on the train instead of jumping out the window, Carlos will help you during the Clock Tower battle. He will enter when the fight begins, and he will blow up the R. Launcher that Nemesis carries, sending him flying into the flame! Beware, the battle isn't over. Carlos is knocked out by the explosion, and you now fight Nemesis Type-Ab, a cross between A and B. He still attacks the same way as Nemesis A, but uses the long range tentacle attack of type B. also, when you defeat him, you will find that you can see more of the transformation of Nemesis into type B!!!!

I hope this is useful in your quest, those of you who haven't beaten the game a million times yet like yours truly! Good luck!
