1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

I'm getting my copy after work today, and looking forward to it! Probably going to play most of the night. My GameStop did not have a midnight release, so I had to wait until today. I've read mixed reviews about it, but I'm still excited about it. Heard the Batmobile handles well, but becomes a tedious feature.

I like the idea of playing as Catwoman, Robin and Nightwing at certain points, and Scarecrow is one of my top villains of all time, so I am excited. Plus I read there is a MAJOR unexpected plot twist. I refuse to read what it is. I want to be surprised.

Anyone else excited about Arkham Knight? I enjoyed the first two games as well.

    (I don't count Origins)

Definitely looking forward to it since it's a Rocksteady game. Hoping it's as good as Asylum and City, and nothing like Origins.

Yeah Rocksteady makes some good games huh? I put them right up there with Ubisoft, EA, SquareEnix and Bethesda as some of the best developers to me.

Absolutely, they've really hit their stride with their last couple of releases. Very solid developer all around.

I'm worried they are not releasing more games in the Arkham franchise. I hope they still make more.

Not buying it as the PC port is an outsourced pile of crap that runs like shit and is locked to 30fps.

PC ports usually are. This is why I refuse to ever get away from using consoles.

So I started on Arkham Knight last night, and about 2 hours in, I can say that a lot of what is going on thus far is right with what I have read. No REAL surprises yet, but there is really no "instructional" portion of the game. Which would be nice since I don't remember the controls from the first games. But, they are easy enough to figure out.

The main thing I can take away thus far (and I won't say much because I hate spoiling things) is that while the Batmobile is cool, it feel gimmick-y and shoved down my throat early on. I do like the puzzles integrating remotely controlling the Batmobile to solve them.

Yeah, the Batmobile is, apparently, the biggest problem pointed out thus far. Shame they turned it into such a gimmick.

(I made the mistake of pre-ordering, and having it shipped...shipment was delayed, so I don't even get to touch it until tonight...)

It's not bad. I have hockey tonight, so I probably won't play much until this weekend. But yeah, they intro the Batmobile as "evening the odds" and about 10 seconds in I was getting out and gliding off buildings again. It handles like a dream, but it's overdone. Seeing as how it appears a good chuck of Riddler Riddles involve the Batmobile, I'm not thrilled.

You have to use the Batmobile for the Riddles? No free roaming + gadgets for those parts? That's not good. :(

There may be some. I've literally only found 2 Riddler puzzles. One being just the question marks you need to hunt. But the other was a "racing" challenge using the Batmobile. And Riddler says something like "I did this to learn the mechanics of your car and now will create more challenges for you." Kind of like the ball machine in The Incredibles, I'd assume. So I know there are more. As for gadgets and roaming... not sure yet. Though I'd assume there are some.

I guess that makes sense. Introduce the new toy, plus give it some basic training for later on. As long as they're not all batmobile missions, it should hopefully level out further in.

I totally disagree. They are a rarity these days, especially now both main consoles use the same x86-64 architecture, which is why this is so disappointing.

Leaving aside my personal opinions on the PC v consoles debate (let's just say I'm a PC guy and leave it at that) I can't remember a AAA title being so staggeringly poor on launch. 30 fps cap, absolutely diabolical performance even on high-end hardware and now it turns out it's missing some of the graphical features of the console version. It's a zero-effort, outsourced pile of garbage and it shows. I feel bad for Rocksteady because they had nothing to do with what is just some bad press, and the PS4 version looks very good and runs extremely well.

It says a lot that they recommend a fucking HD 7950 for 720p, a GPU that normally runs circles around the PS4's.

The 30fps lock is bad. No games in this day and ago should be locked at 30fps, it's a travesty.

You obviously know more about gaming computers than I do. I'm not a hardware guy for computers. I only last year built my first PC for gaming, but I don't use it often. I play(ed) WoW and Wildstar for a while. My wife plays Sims 3 and I have some emulators that don't truly matter. I play more video games on my consoles, but I've nothing against PC games. I used to fall squarely on the consoles > PC debate mostly because of controls, but I've adjusted as I've aged. I'm indifferent, but prefer consoles. So to hear the port is that bad for what I think is a good game thus far, is a shame. I'm sorry to hear it.

Finally got to play a little Arkham Knight, it's pretty decent so far. Feels similar to City, but yeah I definitely see how the Batmobile may be a bit overdone. A bit gimmicky.

Yeah, I did another Batmobile puzzle last night, and they are fun (as are the abilities to control Catwoman and Azrael for very small portions; I've heard you can control Robin and Nightwing in similar fashions at some point, too).

I just don't want it to even be 50/50 in terms of Batmobile puzzles. I miss the gadget puzzles.

I will get this at some stage. I loved Asylum and enjoyed City, too. Never played Origins. I will freely admit that I'm not good at the games. They are the main games that I really struggle on.

I beat Asylum, got to right before the last boss fight in City and quit (I do that alot) and never had any interest to pick up Origins. So I might get Knight eventually, but I'm still only maybe 30% done with the Witcher 3 after 50 hours so far... so I don't see myself buying any video games for a while.

You don't need Origins. It's not actually part of the Arkham trilogy. It was made by an outside company as a placeholder IP to, theoretically, bridge the game between games. Similar, in nature, to what New Vegas was to the Fallout franchise.

Yeah, don't buy Origins. It's terrible. Well, it's not terrible, but it's just not an Arkham game.

I want it, unfortunately I'm without internet for my PS4 for the next five months. There is a Best Buy about five minutes away from me by car, but I'd have to coerce my friend to drive me there.

In terms of buying it off the PSN? Otherwise, internet is not required to play the game.

I used to be that way but now I buy all digital. It's awesome to never have to swap out games. I have 7 games in my PS4 and 1 disk (stupid NHL 15 before I realized digitally is so much more convenient). So I just leave the one disk game in but can play anything anytime without getting off the couch.

Also some games unlock hours before midnight releases like the Witcher 3 - I was playing that 5 hours before the rest of the east coast was because of the PSN release window on it.

I would go all digital but my internet is much too slow and both Sony and MS want £55 for new releases that I can usually pick up for £40-44 on disc with free day one shipping. The inconvenience is mild enough that I'm not going to spend that much extra on games.

On the PC side I still go mostly with discs, again for price reasons, but considering pretty much everything uses a service like Steam, GoG Galaxy, Origin, uPlay or Rockstar Social Club which lets you get the benefits of digital there's no real difference.

I don't like digital releases. I like to know that I own the game I'm buying, and that (even though you can re-install it from the library / Games & Apps page) it won't just be pulled from PSN/XBL randomly, preventing me from ever downloading it again. I'm also a collector, so I need those boxes on my shelves...

Joining this party a little late! Ha ha!

Played through Arkham Knight once already and now going for that platinum! I don't see the negative points you're mentioning; I love the addition of the car (it takes a little getting used to but is definitely very well executed). It's a ten-out-of-ten game for me (and I'm an insanely harsh critic); I expected better visuals and a larger Gotham to explore but beyond that there really is little wrong with this title.

Speaking of being a harsh critic, I have to disagree with what was said about EA and Ubisoft being great! They're pretty awful in my opinion; their customer service is worse!

Arkham Origins was (obviously) nothing compared to Asylum and City (and now Knight) but it was still a top notch game; just consider it as another expansion on the previous games that fills in some of the back story rather a than a whole separate title. It was rushed, short and seemed almost unfinished in a way (they also cheaply reused more or less the same map of City) but it's still very worth a game! If you're a solid fan of Batman and/or the Arkham titles it's a must that you play it!
