1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

Did anyone here know about this?

I literally just found out about this adapter that improves Dreamcast visuals exponentially. I've had a Dreamcast for over a decade and I've been playing it with the A/V cable, muddy visuals and all.

Only reason I found out about this was because my TV's input kept saying the resolution was at 480i, when I did a search to see if it was possible to get the Dreamcast to display in 480p, I came across this.

All these years playing the Dreamcast with all the muddy blurriness when I could be playing them in crisp and clear 680x480x60.

It seems third party companies continue to make the adapters because there's a continued demand for them, hell a new adapter was released in December and is selling for 18-30 bucks on Amazon. I'm placing my order once I'm done looking for affordable Dreamcast games on Amazon :)rotfl:).

I feel like being a Dreamcast fan, I should have known about this device ages ago. I'm kinda disappointed in myself.
I guess you never really notice how blurry older 3D games are until you've spent some time away from them playing ultra-crisp modern day games like Battlefield 4 or Bioshock Infinite. Tokyo Xtreme Racer is really freaking blurry, it's impossible see stuff at a distance because of how blurry it is.

Note: I posted this here because no one posts in the Console forums anymore.

Huh, I just started getting into the Dreamcast myself and I'm considering picking one of these up. I don't find the graphics to be all that bad, but they could definitely always be better

Don't get the adapter I linked too. It doesn't work right. There's no customer support number or manual for the adapter.

I ordered another one, should be getting it today. Reviews are more realistic.

I don't play it all that often either, but I want to make playing for it as best as possible. All that remains is an arcade stick.

If I could find one for like 5 bucks I'd be all over it

Ok, so now neither of them freaking work. Keep getting an "Invalid Format/Not Supported" error on my TVs. Works on my monitor but it's not centered.

This is frustrating. Searching the internet hasn't really given me any decent answers/work arounds. Seems I'm not the only one having the issue.

You'd think a console designed to display 4:3 would work just fine on TVs in put in the 4:3 wouldn't have any problems. This doesn't make any sense. I just want to play my games without ghosting and blurriness.

Seeing as how I've already spent money trying to make playing crisp Dreamcast games a reality, I went and ordered a VGA to HDMI upscaler. I hope to god this works. Playing racing games with blurry graphics is pretty hard to do.
