1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

Let us pray to the gods that this turns to be true.

What would you like to see in a Fallout 4?

I'd almost like bigger maps. While I didn't get too far into Fallout 3, I felt Fallout New Vegas didn't feel big enough.
I'd like to be able to choose between VATS or regular FPS style gameplay without a penalty. As I understand it in FO3 pretty much the only way to play with any effectiveness was through VATS, but in NV it was the opposite with VATS not being as useful.
More ambiguous choices between good and bad. I felt they were too obvious at times. The Witcher does a good job of having choices that aren't necessarily good or bad.

It's an interesting one. I loved 3 and NV - I'd say that I preferred 3. I'm honestly not too sure what more can be done, although I'd like Deathclaws to be slightly less powerful again. :D

At this point, I'm not holding my breath, we've had at least one fake leak/rumor so we'll see. I hope its true.

It'd be great if it did happen, 3 was great (but I never did get too far into New Vegas...I do have it sitting in my Steam Library, so maybe I'll go and play through that) and it'd be nice to see where they take a fourth one.

I can't see how it isn't Fallout. We're due another one, 3 was in 2008 and even New Vegas was way back in 2010.

My main gripe was the fact that the non-VATS gunplay has always felt rough. It needs to be tighter, and as you said the balance between VATS and non-VATS shooting needs to be a little fairer. I'd also like to see one big contiguous world, i.e. without separate areas for indoor areas and cities, a la Witcher 3.

As much as i would willing play a new Fallout, I probably won't- as it'll most likely be a X1/PS4 game after the fix the bugs in the port version. I posted a game idea i had, back when we still had a Fallout board...

    I will be excited though.

Honestly, I'm not really sure why it wasn't.

I guess it's because it was on the same engine and wasn't so much an advancement rather more content.

Thats my dream for any open world game. Witcher 2 is especially annoying with loading one room interiors.

Technically you could say it was, but its more like how there was GTA III and then GTA: Vice City and it wasn't until years later and a new engine that it was GTA IV. Also New Vegas was developed by Obsidian rather than Bethesda. Who knows how they decide what becomes a sequel and what becomes a side story.

I recommend putting it at the top of your list. The story is really good, which is something Obsidian is known for. They have a philosophy of story coming first with gameplay 2nd. Only problem is that like all Obsidian games it can be buggy at times, but still playable.

We need online coop with friendly fire. I can already imagine a lot of fun scenarios happening with a buddy.

Coop in Fallout would be hilarious... I can imagine all sorts of story related reasons for enabling coop... who wouldn't love playing as a ghoul with a Supermutant buddy smashing raider skulls?

It would have to be handled properly. Would hate for it to take away from the main game.

I think that would essentially turn into whatever DayZ has become which from what i understand is hit or miss these days in terms of player experience.

Not really. DayZ has nothing to do with zombies TBH. It's just people finding guns and shooting each other. Sometimes you don't even see zombies when you walk through a city. What Fallout could simply have is the second player be the companion. They don't necessarily need to be contributing to the story, but are there to shoot things and kickass.

I wasn't thinking in terms of a zombie game. I was thinking about how DayZ has devolved into people indiscriminately shooting each other, its become chaotic from what I understand. I imagine a large online Fallout to become something similar with various groups of people forming raiding parties and going around killing anyone weaker. For the most part just turning it into a giant turkey shoot game where the new people without guns don't have much of a chance.

I think the reason why New VEgas wasn't considered Fallout 4 was because it wasn't vault-centric. I know Fallout 1 and Fallout 3 started in a Vault, dunno about Fallout 2 though. But i agree about the Bethseda > Obsidian argument in that regard.

Coop in the next or future Fallout could be handled one of three ways- a pair of vault dwellers surviving the wastes after something happens in the vault forces them out; a pair of scavengers exploring said vault [possibly causing the events that force everyone in the vault out]; or a combination of the above, or in this case- a dweller chasing the scavenger after he steal something vital to the Dweller community.

in either case, both the Dweller and Scavenger games can be played separately, and the other can jump in at will.

I mean sure, if you make it into something like that. The lore is already there. Beth would only have to build it to work as an MMO.

That's not the same as coop though. I was thinking it being something along the lines how Magicka was when the original first came out. You and a buddy are doing awesomly at destroying other wizards, forest animals and whatnot, and then suddenly someone accidentally sets the other one on fire, which ends up cascading into the poor soul running into a barrel of gunpowder, which explodes glouriously, killing thrm in the progress, and somehow that same explosion propels a huge troll next to the other player and promptly gets squished by a giant mallet. And of course everyone else still dies, as the explosion set the whole area on fire.

That kind of fun stuff. Or even stuff like experiencing helicopter sabertooth tigers with a friend.

I beat it, but I never played it again, it was a good game, but I enjoyed the world and setting in Fallout 3 far more. I do need to pick up the DLC, perhaps the next steam sale

I need to play it a few more times... once, at least siding with the Legion. As for the New Vegas DLC- Old world Blues & Dead Money are recommended. I didn't care for Honest Hearts- especially since the two companions you get in that game are melee-based, and you fight a lot of Cazadors and Yau Goai, and Green Geckos- enemies that just eat through melee characters. That, and there's only one merchant and he doesn't have a lot of caps to spend on all the loot you get.

I've never played a Fallout game but I know a lot about them partially because a coworker of mine is obsessed (he even made one of those pip boy things that functioned).

I'm only slightly interested because it looks like its based in Boston, which is awesome. I've always wanted a game based in Boston even if it is completely destroyed.

You're missing out, Tom. The earlier games are completely different, but 3 and NV are superb. I would thoroughly recommend them.

Agreed, although I'd advise you buy the PC versions if possible because it's much easier to get around the various bugs and issues you will hit.

The trailer looks amazing. No surprise that it's in Boston since in the summer of 2012 they were caught checking out MIT by students there. Given that timeframe, the fact that it looks like proper game footage and the fact you can pre-order I'm hopeful of a release this year, although I'm not holding my breath. In case anyone's not aware, Bethesda are holding an E3 event on June 14, 2015 at 7PM PST, so perhaps we'll have some more footage and information there.

I'll tell you the thing I liked the most, aside from the revolutionary dog AI of course. The colours! There's more than one colour in the fucking game! Fallout 3 was all green and NV was all brown, but here - blue skies! Some red here and there! Even, god forbid, green!

Reminds me that I bought Fallout 3 on Day 1, and it's still shrinkwrapped in the closet of backloggery. Trailer looked pretty, though!
Bought New Vegas and F3 GOTY two Black Fridays ago for $10 a pop and haven't touched them yet, either... Never enough time.
