1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

    Source...

Well, it IS a Wii U or Vita idea, but they've jumped in last so might have the "better" option and have the best of both worlds. What do you think?

They should drop this and work on making a video game console. Make it like the 360 except faster, and better; otherwise, they just shouldn't develop a new console.

So, Xbox Loop = Dreamcast 2 confirmed? Sounds sort of like the concept behind the Dreamcast's VMU (/VMS /VM) controller insert, only with a significantly improved screen. With touch features.

I'm against the idea strictly because I don't want to buy four new controllers. I want the four I already own, in addition to all of my Guitar Hero and Rock Band equipment, to work with the next console. Or I'm seriously just not going to bother and use the money for more 3DS games or something.

In my view it is somewhat unlikely that any of the main developers would go with that, simply because of the money. Peripherals make companies money, and it's a big way that they make up for the very small margins (if not massive losses) on the consoles themselves. If one of the focuses in the next generation is going to be on the controllers themselves, which it may well be, I can see the manufacturers milking them in terms of money to maintain those profit margins.

Funnily enough, one of the articles on this used a comically drawn Dreamcast controller as its lead photo.

My concern is just how big will the controller be then? I mean, everyone griped and moaned about the Duke (still my favorite controller ever mainly cause my hands are giant) and they had to redesign it to the controller S.

Plus placement of buttons.... that just sounds like it could be a little awkward.

I'll be seriously pissed if this happens. I want a controller that is easy to play games on. I don't want all of these gimmicks.

The Wii changed the gaming industry forever. It will forever be about gimmicks and appealing to the casual gaming audience with the core gaming audience becoming more of a niche market.

People forget how low software sales were, but Nintendo doesn't care too much considering they make a profit off of every Wii system, the only of the three to do so.

If the rumors of Sega and Apple partnering to make a console are true, expect something paired around with an iPhone or touch screen anyway. This makes me think more and more that it is going to happen and the other companies are trying to get a leg up on them.

Probably. For what it's worth, the Wii U will support all of the Wii's controllers and peripherals. But then again, the Wii U is also going to be fully backwards compatible -- something I'm having serious doubts about with regards to the inevitable PlayStation 4.

If nothing of merit carries over into the next generation, I'll be holding off for a number of years and buying tons of stuff used to make up the difference. Compared to last generation, controller prices doubled. I'd hate to see what happens going forward if all of that isn't supported. And, naturally, whatever is left of the music genre will fall apart.
