1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

And I can't get it until tomorrow! I feel so in the stone age. :(

Apple confirmed OSX Lion for a July 20th release at their 3rd quarter earnings report yesterday. Go get it later today! :)

Can't grab it for a few days. I'm not sure I'm even going to, it looks great but my system is low in RAM.

Does anyone know if you will be able to get it free if Lion is already installed on the mac? I want to make a physical copy of it too rather than just the recovery partition they provide. If not, I will just buy it anyway.

I'm downloading it right now. For free. Yay for buying my Macbook Pro on the cutoff date for a free upgrade!

I got it yesterday morning. I had no qualms about paying for it, it's a pretty nice update.

So far I like most things, don't like a couple of things, and I'm hoping for an Aperture update in the near future.

F*ck natural scrolling. It just feels wrong on something that isn't a touch screen. I turned that sh*t off right away.

Other than that I like the update so far, though I only messed around with it for an hour or so. I am really liking the new look of mail.

I'm not a big fan of the lack of a scrollbar in several places... it's fine on a website, but I like that visual indication of progress when I'm working through a few hundred files.

Also, in Photoshop the 'Mission Control' feature doesn't work as well as 'Show all Windows' did... I used to use that to open all files that I was working on so I could find a specific one, now it doesn't show it all to me :(

I think that about covers it for me. Full screen is nice, four-fingered app switching is great. I'm already pretty much ruined for Lion :)

If you turn on app expose, swiping either 3 or 4 fingers down will show all of your Photoshop windows.

Wonderful. That is a hundred thousand times better.

Okay... Spotlight has always been one of the #1 features of OSX from the time I started using it... now it's amazing to the point of being alien. I feel like such a feature is unfair to Windows users and I will feel bad using it in front of them, like I am showing off.

I'm loving Lion so far. Right now I am in the process of trying the "natural" scrolling to see if I like it. I wish with mission control that when you changed a background that it would stay that way even if you delete a desktop though. :/

This is probably the most frivrilous change I've come across. Somebody played around with it for a day and got used to it and thought that was the same as being better. Personally I think they're both equally adaptable, but why mess with what works and force yourself to adapt to every other computer you come in contact with.

My guess is that they will de-standardize this feature when feedback from the Apple retail stores come back that every single person who tries it asks if it can be changed back.

edit: I will admit as I examine more features that page turning seems to be more natural in the "natural" scrolling option... but tomorrow I'll be used to it

I've decided it isn't bad, but I'll keep reverse scrolling. :)

New favorite thing: double tap to zoom.
I used the option-scroll all the time to zero-in on a website, now it's better :)

Holy crap! I just discovered the triple-finger-double-tap!!!!! Do it over a word and it looks it up in the dictionary, thesaurus, and wikipedia and puts it all in a cute little window. Holy crap!!!

Haha yeah I was just messing around on a page the other day and the dictionary box popped up. It took me a good 10 minutes to figure out how to make it happen again.

One bug I have seen is with ordered lists. They seem to never work right now.

Is performance any worse than Snow Leopard? Only I've got 2GB of RAM only, it's fairly ok but I wouldn't want a massive performance downgrade.

I'm probably not upgrading the RAM because my MBP is quite literally falling apart. The battery expanded and bent the underside a bit whilst the screen frame has snapped.

No. Neither faster nor slower from what I see. I have 8GB though.

Won't the new MBP already come with Lion on it?

Not sure. I do know that the update is free. I don't know the difference between the two anyway.

i had a bulging battery, on a 2007 white MB, and even though i was well out of warranty (never got any extra) they replaced it free of charge. if you can get to an apple store you can probably at least get a new battery and maybe the cost to repair your computer's frame/body won't be too bad either

Yeah, I'm going to try the next time I go to a city with an Apple store. The only reason I've held off is because I don't really need one at the moment. I should probably get to it though!
