1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

In preparation for my years at college I need to purchase a new laptop. I've always really wanted a mac and I can finally afford to do so now, and one of the biggest attractions to it was the advertised 7 hour battery life. However, after reading many reviews and forum threads it appears as if OSX Lion completely destroys the 7 hour battery life. I did read on mac rumors that OSX Mountain Lion is going to be released soon and it should fix the problem, but do you think I should wait to buy a Mac Book Pro with it already pre-installed or just buy one now and pick it up when it's released?

When do you need this laptop by? I would estimate that Mountain Lion will arrive before the beginning of the fall season. If you need it earlier than that, then I would get it now.

In that case, I would wait a little longer. If they announce a release date that is much later, then you can just buy the laptop and upgrade in the future.

I was just going to post that :D

Macrumors is pretty much the best place to get information on Apple products. Even their rumors are surprisingly accurate, they tend to have very, very good sources.

WWDC keynote is on Monday (i.e. tomorrow) and there's likely to be some announcement then. I'd be surprised if there was no Macbook update!

So yes, pretty much confirms if you're getting a Mac, you should wait.

Yep, that pretty much hit the nail on the head. Glad I waited too, that new retina display sure sounds purty :cletus:

I've been looking at buying a MacBook Pro for ages. While the new one sounds awesome, there's one major thing keeping me from buying it: there's no disc drive. Seriously, what the hell?

I'll be honest, in the last couple of years I can count the times that I've used my laptop's disc drive in one hand. Even on my desktop I use it extremely rarely.

Optical media is going the way of the dodo. If it is a dealbreaker, a USB optical drive can be had for well less than $100.

Can it use the MacBook Air software where you can borrow a PC/Mac disc drive from another computer?
