1. Downtime notice - Oct. 17, 2017

Well, it's a permanent downtime. After 22 years of service it's time for a final goodbye. Our live production servers will be taken offline on October 17th. The simple fact is that there are plenty of better ways to get the secrets hidden in games and connect with other gamers. There are plenty of Youtube channels and Twitch streams that will show games played at their best, something that plain text and screenshots can't convey. If you want to connect to other gamers outside of those services, there are plenty of Discord servers that offer a direct and engaging community experience.

Please visit our friends at GameFAQs.com or IGN.com for information such as codes, guides, reviews, etc. They're the real deal and have always been respectful and honest about how they operate. Our ghost pages can be found on Archive.org for those times that you'd like to take a look back at how things were.

Thanks to everyone that has contributed content and time managing our community, and especially to you, our dear visitors!

All a bit quiet in this forum lately, so time for another edition of Weekly Hauls. I made a concerted effort this week to get to the car boot sale early and see what I could dig up. And I would like to think that I was rewarded for my efforts.

Obviously these came from several different stalls, but I spent ?17.70 on everything (about $25). There are numerous highlights. Shadow Warrior is probably the most valuable of the PC games, though I was very happy with Wages of Sin as well. Whilst it is not worth as much as those two, it is worth mentioning that the Deathtrap Dungeon Limited Edition is in mint condition and complete with everything. It's a really nice set. Jak and Daxter The Lost Frontier is a surprisingly rare PS2 game and is worth a fair amount.

All in all, very happy with all of that. I think I got more than my money's worth overall.

Definitely agree with you, there are some great titles in there! Nicely done!

Have had zero luck around here lately, just nothing worth picking up or way overpriced. Here's hoping the coming week proves to be a good one :D.

It's been pretty dry for me lately as well, but this morning my fortune changed when I picked up this for $50 with the game AND a extra SNES controller included:

Freaking awesome! I've been eyeballing these on Amazon for a while but didn't want to shell out $90 for one, especially with spotty reviews. But the guy let me test it out and everything before I paid, so I'm really stoked.

Hopefully this will start a new trend for me as i've been able to turn up absolutely NOTHING lately in my retro game hunting.

Wow. That's a pretty big pickup right there. I've been trying to get my hands on one, too, and you just don't find them on the cheap right now. Awesome job there! Gotta' ask, though -- some say they're pretty cheap, others say they feel about the same quality as a SNES controller, and are pretty sturdy. It's early days, but would you say they're worth the investment?

That's a great find, Nico. The supaboy is one of those things that I have always been aware of, but have never really given any thought to purchasing. They pop up on Ebay over here now and again (currently two on auctions actually), but other than that you never see them.

Yeah i've had one on my Amazon wishlist forever but I could just never bring myself to cough up the money for it. A lot of the reviews complain about a buzz sound when the volume is turned up, so that kinda made me cautious.

It turns out this one DOES have the buzz.. but I really think people were nitpicking with those criticisms. I literally had to turn the volume on max and then press the thing against my head before i could actually hear it. Normal playing you would absolutely never notice it. Typical for internet, I guess, and as we know, collectors can be a picky, if not shifty bunch. Maybe i'll try it with headphones.

As far as the build quality goes, it is solid, and if you're comparing it with controller builds it say it's somewhere between a third party snes controller and a first party. It is not heavy, and I think that bothers some people, but it by no means feels cheap. The plastic does not appear to be as thick as an OEM snes controller, so I think that and the weight might mean low quality to some people, but I think it feels very well engineered.

It is quite larger than I had imagined, though. It really is a beast of a device, in fact it's a bit larger than a SEGA Nomad if you want a comparison. It is light and the battery is thin. I think it uses the same battery as my old blackberry curve, I honestly didn't think the battery was in the thing because it's so light.

My only two real criticisms are the screen is not a sharp as I would like and lacks brightness control.

Second is the dpad is stiff compared to OEM. I think this may be because the guy I bought it from rarely used it. I say this because after I man handled it a little it definitely loosened up. So maybe after some good use it will loosen up a bit more, based on what I've experienced so far.

But for the price I paid I really can't complain. If I would have paid retail I might feel different, but for $50 with Mario Kart and an extra controller, i have no regrets.

Same here.. I've been aware of it but it was sort of like, "oh that's neat" and not something I really was clamoring to own. I'd say if you came across one at a good price, go for it.

There has been absolutely nothing here lately and when I say nothing, I mean nothing.
Not even so much as a yard sale, that being said I'm not complaining about it because with school starting back up I don't have a lot of spare money at the moment.

Great finds though! I've always admired those big PC boxes, they just look so.....elite

Yeah, people do tend to exaggerate things a bit, so I'm not surprised that something like that would be blown out of proportion.

That's what I was assuming with regards to the build quality, people think anything that feels light is automatically cheap. Glad to hear it seems to be a solid product. No so surprised about the size, it pretty much has to be I believe.

Not really bad then, in terms of genuine problems. Sounds quite promising!
