To play in expert mode, point the cursor at "Main Game"
at the main menu and press Analog-stick Left or Analog-stick
Right to change the menu item to "Expert". Here
are some hints for playing in expert mode:
Information in this section was contributed by Zachary Parker.
The enemies will be in greater numbers, and their weapons will
be extremely accurate and will fire rapidly.
Be prepared to lose a wing every three or four seconds.
Because you will lose your wings often, your laser will not be
easily powered up. Watch carefully for laser items.
Fox will wear sunglasses just like James McCloud.
Hint: Moving faster left or right:
You can move faster left or right by performing a barrel
roll while turning, except in all-range mode. It does not matter
which way the barrel roll is oriented, it will work for both sides.
Try using the index on the hand that is less busy. For example,
if you are shooting enemies, slowing down and turning right will
executing this move. It is best to use the left index, even if
you need to turn right. A left barrel roll will be easier and
more practical in this situation. Note: Do not use this trick
if your camera angle is inside the Arwing; it will only make you
hit the ground faster.
Information in this section was contributed by Francois Comeau.
Hint: Blocking enemy fire while executing
a somersault:
Nothing stops you from executing a barrel roll while
executing a somersault. This will never be useful in the main
game, but also can be extremely useful in versus mode.
Information in this section was contributed by Francois Comeau.
Hint: Bounce on water:
When flying over water, hold Z or R then
fly on the water. Instead of skimming the water as normal, you
will bounce. Note: Do not try this on toxic waste, as it will
damage you.
Information in this section was contributed by CJPrichard.
Hint: Smart bomb:
Get a bomb then charge up your laser. Do not release
A. Lock on a target and press B. If done correctly,
the bomb will follow the target.
Information in this section was contributed by LVaz722730
and Thomas369.
Hint: Temporary hyper lasers:
If both of your wings are broken off while you had
hyper lasers, quickly and repeatedly press A. You will
get hyper lasers for a short amount of time. This may be done
as many times as needed.
Information in this section was contributed by dillonjt.
Hint: Easy bonus hits:
When confronting tight groups of enemies, power up
your laser, lock onto the group, blast it, and then continue rapidly
shooting to deal more damage.
Information in this section was contributed by Feurt.
Hint: Extra points:
Hold Z + R and hold A to charge
your laser. You will notice that this prevents the laser from
locking on an enemy. However, if you use this technique to shoot
an enemy (or group of enemies) with an unlocked charged laser,
you will earn one extra point.
Information in this section was contributed by Patpinkstar.
Go through Corneria. Defeat the hovering enemy. Go to Meteo instead
of Sector Y. Go through Meteo and go through the warp. Go to Katina.
Fight hard in Katina to get at least 100 points. Then instead
of Solar, go to Sector X. Go through there and you were see a
spilt in the level; go right. Make sure the enemy does not hit
Slippy. Then, go to Macbeth. Make sure you hit the switches, as
this will give you an extra 50 points. Then, go to Area 6 and
fight hard to get 200 points. When you get to venom, destroy the
Star Wolf army quickly so that each opponent will give you 50
points. Next, defeat Andross and escape. If done well, you may
get as much as 1300 points.
Information in this section was contributed by Slyguy1500.
Hint: Play unlimited point match:
To extend a point match game as long as desired, begin
a 3-player, 5 kill point match game. Have one player rank up to
4 points, then defeat the other two players simultaneously. If
the two players are defeated at the exact same moment, the win
counter will jump to 6 points, and go past the usual limit of
5 points. The match will continue until you reset the game. This
trick works best if the two players to be defeated are on foot,
and not in tanks or Arwings.
Information in this section was contributed by Cyber Cop 55?.
Hint: Rocket launcher mode controls:
Also, in multi-player mode, the rocket launcher mode
has the following control scheme. Press R to run forward,
Z to jump, A to fire continuously (no charge) when
held, and B to fire a bomb (no locking). This mode is very
small, and often not visible on a mottled surface such as grass.
However, you can damage very easily and can be hurt by a Land
Master running you over. The C buttons have no use, and
the Analog-stick only turns you around -- you cannot do
an abrupt turn.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon Rick.
Hint: Land Master turn-around:
The Land Master can completely turn around in multi-player
mode. Hold the direction you are turning and do two barrel-rolls.
Information in this section was contributed by Jon Rick.
Hint: Better turns:
When going through a part of a level where you need
to maneuver around obstacles easily, hold L + R
and turn. Note: This will also work in all-range mode.
Information in this section was contributed by Crash62491.
To turn much sharper and faster, turn and use R or L
respectively while using C-Down to brake. This is of utmost
use in all of the All-Range mode levels and us very helpful when
fighting Upgraded StarWolf as well as Andross' Brain.
Information in this section was contributed by Drake498.
Hint: "64" reference:
For every Venomian ship you destroy, you charge General
Pepper $64.
Information in this section was contributed by Kyle Haight.
Hint: Warp zones:
Information in this section was contributed
by pokemon, Zachary Parker,
and Smokinbeanbean2.
Asteroid field: Go almost all the way to the level. When Slippy
says to charge your laser, you will see seven or eight triangles
that form a circle. Go through it and then another one will appear.
Go through them until you have reached the seventh one.
Sector X: When youhave reached the checkpoint in this level, you
will eventually find a passage way with two directions. Take the
left route. Some kind of metal with a border will appear. Shoot
the metal until it opens, then go through it. Repeat this until
you have opened the fourth one. Note: This will be easier if you
have Bill. Additionally, this gives you a better chance to get
a medal. Also, it is very difficult to shoot the gates enough
before you crash into them -- use the brake for more time.
Planet Z: When you get to Planet X, stay on the left side of the
level the entire time. You should go to a secret passageway on
the left. When you reach the "hatches", keep shooting
at them until they turn red and open. If you get all of them,
you should go into hyper space and warp to Planet Z.
Hint: Route with most kills:
The route that gives you the most kills is, Coneria,
Sector Y, Aquas, Zones, Macbeth, Area 6, And Venom.
Information in this section was contributed by Ixplodestuff8.
Hint: Route for expert difficulty setting:
From Corneria, go through the warp at Meteo, then to
Katina. Next, go to Sector X, then Macbeth followed by Area 6,
then finally Venom.
Information in this section was contributed by Bluebear560.
Hint: Routes for Katt and Bill:
After you defeat Andross (droid), your wing mates talk,
and everyone is next to a wing you will also see one more ship.
It will ether be Katt (next to Falco) or Bill (next to Fox). To
see Katt, you must go in this order: Corneria, Secter Y, Aquas,
Zones, Sector Z, Bolse. To see Bill, you have to be in expert
mode. Go in this order: Corneria, Meato, Katina (warp from Meteo),
Solar, Macbeth, Bolse.
Information in this section was contributed by Falcon
40.
Hint: Defeating Andross:
Shoot at Andross' eyes until he has to rub them. Then
shoot at his hands. If he tries to inhale you, move to the side
of the screen. When he spits rocks, keep shooting them. Continue
shooting his eyes and then hands and repeat this until his head
explodes. If you are fighting the fake Andross, you will find
a robot. Just fire a bomb to destroy it. If you are fighting the
real Andross, he will turn into a brain. Chase his eyes and destroy
them. After destroying both of them, the brain will chase you.
When it gets close enough, somersault. If he grabbed you, keep
pressing buttons to escape. If done correctly, you will now be
behind him. Shoot the gray matter and repeat until he is defeated.
After that, follow your father out or you will die.
Information in this section was contributed by Pika312.
Alternatively, the following tough and dangerous tactic can be
used. First, start shooting the hands. They have a significant
level of health -- be persistent and very fast, since they hit
hard. When Andross starts the vacuum attack, get to a lower corner,
hold Z/R to stay on the side, and hold the brake.
If done correctly, you should barely avoid the attack. If you
get sucked in, both wings and the laser power-ups will be lost,
and you will also descend at a slow rate of speed. Once his hands
are gone, he can only execute the suck and spit attacks. Shoot
the rocks, avoid the mouth, and shoot his eyes. When he turns
into the mechanical form, stay to either side of the screen. Dodge
him when he charges, and shoot him when he retreats to finally
defeat Andross.
Information in this section was contributed by KrnagPower.
When you get to Andross, destroy his hands. When he tries to vacuum
you in, just fire a bomb into his mouth. He will stop and the
bomb will cause smoke to shoot out his ears and nose. This does
a great deal of damage.
Information in this section was contributed by Poly Theparot.
Take this route: Corneria, Meteo Asteroid Field, Fortuna (defeat
Star Wolf completely), Sector X, Titania, the Satellite section,
and Venom. Get into the temple at the end of the level. Then,
when the rock giant appears, rapidly fire at any part of him until
parts of him start falling off. Shoot the arms first, then legs,
rear, and chest. His head will start turning red. Start shooting
his head until it is destroyed. Then, start shooting his chest
again until he dies. When you get into the tunnel afterwards,
ignore Andross' comments and get all the items while shooting
anything that gets target locked. At the end of the tunnel, Andross
will appear. Dodge his attacks by his hand and try to shoot them.
When he starts to suck you in, shoot a bomb at him. He will stop
sucking and stall. Then, start shooting his hands. The bomb will
soon explode and smoke will appear from Andross' ears. While all
this is happening, keep shooting his hands. Repeat this until
you destroy both his hands. He will now only do suck attacks.
When he is not sucking, shoot his eyes until his skin falls off.
You see his mechanical skull. Do not get startled by this and
continue shooting his eyes. When he charges at you, barrel roll
to the opposite direction. If he charges when you are at the left,
barrel roll to the right and vice versa. After some time he will
be defeated and explode extremely violently. Note: If he sucks
you in, you will lose both your wings and your hyper lasers, but
all is not lost. If he chews you up, rapidly press A and
you will not lose too much damage.
Information in this section was contributed by krishna71.
To fight Andross' brain form, go to all the levels at the top
of the screen. You will know if it is the correct path because
there will be a red line when you move to the next level. When
you get to Venom, defeat Star Wolf and go to Andross. Defeat his
first form, then he will turn into his brain form. You will go
into all range mode. His eyes will come out and shoot at you.
Destroy them. Then, get behind him and shoot him in the brownish
spot in his brain. Andross will explode and try to kill you. Follow
your father and get out of there.
Information in this section was contributed by KYLEB12.
Shoot his eye until he rubs it. This is your chance to destroy
his unguarded hand.
Information in this section was contributed by John King.
Hint: Stopping Andross' vacuum attack:
Shoot a bomb into Andross' mouth when he does his vacuum
attack. If done correctly, he will stop and steam will appear
from his ears.
Information in this section was contributed by tom ato
and Alex Tetzlaff.
Shoot a bomb at his mouth (not inside), then fire a few hyper
lasers.
Information in this section was contributed by SPARKES.
To keep Andross from sucking you in, move to one of the upper
corners of the screen and repeatedly do barrel rolls (press R
if at the upper right, or Z if at the upper left). This
even works without breaking.
Information in this section was contributed by Jedi288.
To avoid Adross' vacuum attack, do a somersault.
Information in this section was contributed by KJBrewer07.
On Venom when you are fighting Andross, when he sucks you into
his mouth keep pressing A. When he spits you out, your
health will be the same as when he ate you.
Information in this section was contributed by Neil Rossi.
Hint: Defeating the Corneria Boss:
The easiest way to defeat the Corneria Boss (Robot)
is to shoot is leg. He will trip and fall, allowing you to shoot
its back.
Information in this section was contributed by WizKid0827.
Note: To reach the secret Boss in Corneria, when Falco says "Something's
wrong with the G-diffuser system", kill all four enemies
chasing him to save him. Then, destroy all the enemies on the
water and go through all the tunnels.
Information in this section was contributed by perrywinkles.
Hint: Corneria: Extra life:
Do a loop between the legs of the first boss in Corneria
(the one you fight in all-range mode) to find an extra life.
Information in this section was contributed by Ixplodestuff8.
Hint: Corneria: Saving Falco:
Immediately after Falco says "Something's wrong
with the G-Diffuser", charge your laser, lock on the enemy,
and shoot. Note: You might have to charge earlier.
Information in this section was contributed by DUSTIN SYLVESTER.
Hint: Corneria: Stuck Land Master:
When playing in versus mode as the Land Master on Corneria,
hover above a building. If you release and fall at the correct
moment, you may get stuck in the building. This may require a
few attempts. If done correctly, you will be able to shoot your
enemies without them hitting you. This works well because it eliminates
the weaknesses of the Land Master being on the ground.
Information in this section was contributed by CJPrichard.
Hint: Corneria City: Secret passage:
Save Falco in the Corneria City mission, then go through
all the tunnels on the water to find a secret passage.
Information in this section was contributed by SoftballGirl5033.
Hint: Macbeth: Do more damage:
As the Boss in the train says "Dang, Detach the
rear vehicles?", wait until you see the two cannons (one
should be shooting at the wall and the other shoot be shooting
at you). In between the two cannons is a fuel tanker. Shoot a
bomb at it. It should destroy both cannons and a few other cars
as well.
Information in this section was contributed by James Humpert.
Hint: Macbeth: Extra points:
Shoot all of the poles that are normally red. When
you shoot them, they will turn green. If done correctly, Peppy
will tell you to shoot the switcher. When this is done, the tracks
will move to a different path. You will get also get 50 bonus
points.
Information in this section was contributed by SCHOBELOCKTEXAS.
Hint: Meteo: Warp to Katina:
Near the end of Meteo, before the Boss, there are seven
blue rings. When you fly through them you will start doing barrel
rolls. If you can fly through all of seven of them you will warp
to Katina. The rings are located in Meteo after about three minutes
have passed.
Information in this section was contributed by Kirby12.
Hint: Mystery Of The Secret Base: Avoiding
mines and missiles:
On The Mystery of the Secret Base when encountering
the mine field, head to the lower right to avoid the full explosion.
On Area 6, when the you encounter the large mine field, fly through
it shooting the mines until some of them close to you start to
blink. Then, boost out of there.
Information in this section was contributed by Feurt.
Hint: Sector X: Revealing Syborg:
On Sector X, if take off Syborg's head you will see
a red dot that is Syborg.
Information in this section was contributed by WizKid0827.
Hint: Sector X: Getting more enemies:
While trying to get the medal, when you reach the point
where you take a path left or right, choose the path to the right.
There are more enemies on this side.
Information in this section was contributed by Brian Karle.
Hint: Sector X: Head on collision:
When you are about to reach the Boss, Falco will shout
"Look out behind you!". If you do a somersault when
the Boss music starts playing, you will crash into the Boss head
on.
Information in this section was contributed by Wyatt Waggoner.
Hint: Sector Y: Extra life:
When your teammates on Sector Y form a triangle, boost
up and try to form a diamond to get a secret extra life.
Information in this section was contributed by Paulo Talion.
Hint: Sector Z:
To get to Sector Z through zones, make sure Fox does
not say "Uh-oh. Have we been spotted?". To accomplish
this, destroy all the searchlights.
Information in this section was contributed by dpbritt.
Hint: Sector Z: Recharge:
In Sector Z, fly in the rear top hatch of Great Fox,
over the middle engine. You will emerge near the front lower hatch
completely recharged. Also, damaged wings will instantly be repaired.
Information in this section was contributed by Francois Comeau.
If you lose a lot of health on Sector Z, remember that you are
saving Great Fox. Pull into the back hanger of Great Fox, and
you will be spit out of the front hanger totally healed. Note:
Do not pull into the front hanger because you will crash in to
Great Fox.
Information in this section was contributed by CJPrichard.
Hint: Sector Z: Great Fox damaged wing
in ending sequence:
When you get to Sector Z, destroy five out of the six
missiles. Allow the six one to hit Great Fox. It will take out
the top left wing. Finish the game and Great Fox will be missing
that wing in the ending sequence.
Information in this section was contributed by TiGeRs0731.
Hint: Solar: Easier medal:
Kill your wingmen on Meteo so they are in full health
on Solar. Your men will lose health quickly on Solar.
Information in this section was contributed by Derek.
Hint: Solar: Mystery enemy:
When Rob 64 says "location confirmed" the
first time, you will see a white bird-like enemy fly up out of
the planet. Note: This does not always happen all of the time.
Information in this section was contributed by Falcon
40.
Hint: Solar: Gold rings:
Try to find rocks that blink. They hold gold rings.
Information in this section was contributed by William Hill.
Hint: Solar: Super ring:
When you see the rocks, look for one that is glowing.
When you shoot it, you will see a ring that has four points and
is silver. There are four of them on the level.
Information in this section was contributed by Falcon
40.
Hint: Toxic Waste: Unlimited bombs:
In the Toxic Waste planet Zones, while fighting the
giant submarine, you can get unlimited bombs for your arsenal.
Just shoot the bubble things he shoots out of his cannon and they
will turn into bomb power-up items.
Information in this section was contributed by Sean Finley.
Hint: Venom: Route outside:
When escaping Venom after beating Andross, if you lose
sight of James McCloud follow this path: right, left, right, left,
right, right.
Information in this section was contributed by Ixplodestuff8.
Hint: Venom: Wing repair:
If one of your wings is gone, follow this path (you
must have completed Area 6 or this will not work): left, right,
left, left, right, right.
Information in this section was contributed by Bruce Blackman.
Hint: Venom 2:
To reach Venom 2, go to Area 6 and not Bolse. You will
reach Venom 2 and challenge Starwolf's new upgraded ships.
Information in this section was contributed by SSJ4SATURNduo.
Hint: Venom 2: Power path:
After you defeat the Star Wolf gang in the labrynth
of tunnels, go left, right, left, left, right, right. This will
give you a bomb, hyper laser and full health.
Information in this section was contributed by Greenhawk86.
Hint: Zoness: Medals:
To get a medal on Zoness, get at least 130 points by
the time you get to the first checkpoint. There are opponents
that die only with charged lasers that give you 5 points per kill.
Make sure you get them. Then, get the spider enemies. By doing
this, you should get 130 points by the time you get to the checkpoint.
Then, make sure you have at least 239 points by the time you get
to the enemy. Hit all of the opponents. If you fail to get 239,
kill yourself. Do not restart the level. You will resume at the
checkpoint with the amount of points you had when you got there.
Note: The big eel thing cannot die; do not bother attacking it.
Information in this section was contributed by Slyguy1500.
Hint: Easy medal:
When you go through the first course, for an easy medal
shoot the enemies that are destroying the buildings.
Information in this section was contributed by Connie Jordan.
Hint: Collecting medals:
When trying to collect the medals for each area, you
have a set number of enemy ships to shoot down in order to get
the medal. You will know when you have reached that target when
your score flashes and turns red. However, it is possible to defeat
too many enemies and go over that limit. Your score will go back
to light gray again and you will lose the medal. This can also
happen by accident with the amount of points you get from defeating
a Boss at the end of an area. If you are going for high scores,
concentrate on the medal first, then play again. All medals successfully
collected will be automatically saved and will never get deleted
unless you erase the game data.
Information in this section was contributed by Syreeta Wright.
Hint: Multi-player: Near-invincibility:
Begin game play as a human versus an opponent that
is also human. Approach your opponent and press Z to jump
on him or her. The only way for your opponent to hurt your character
is if he or she shoots a bomb and detonates it. Shoot downwards
to keep hitting him or her, and make it appear that your character
is doing the splits on their head.
Information in this section was contributed by Jesse Panesar.
Hint: Multi-player: Never ending game:
Start a three player point match. Let one player get
four kills. This works best if done on foot, not in tanks or ships.
Then, kill the other two players simultaneously. Your kill counter
should jump to six, allowing you to play forever.
Information in this section was contributed by Garlin421.
Hint: Practice: Star Wolf:
Shoot down 100 enemies in practice mode. Star Wolf
will appear, allowing you to get target practice on him.
Information in this section was contributed by WizKid0827.
Hint: Alternate jet colors:
Whenever you are on a planet your jets are red. However,
when you are in a place such as Sectors X, Y, and Z, they are
blue.
Information in this section was contributed by Joe Alvarez.
Hint: Message from General Pepper:
Complete the game on any path. At the end of the game,
you will see a collection slip from Fox describing how many Venomian
enemy units were destroyed and the total amount of money that
is due. Make sure you have destroyed enough enemies to earn a
fee of $50,000 or greater. If done correctly, General Pepper should
say "This is quite a steep fee, but it's worth it,"
or something similar.
If the amount is over $75,000 (done by killing 1,171 Venomians
or more), General Pepper will sound startled and will say "Wha...?".
Hint: Independence Day reference:
The Katina aerial battle is almost perfectly reminiscent
of the final aerial battle near the end of Independence Day.
It features lots of good fighters battling the un-shielded enemies,
and the weak spot of the mothership is a core that appears in
the middle. The way the mothership crashes is the same way the
alien craft crashes when its core is destroyed. The only drawback
is that the mothership turns over to fire its primary weapon to
destroy the base.
Information in this section was contributed by Joe Matera.
Hint: Star Trek reference:
There is a small reference to the 1979 film, Star
Trek - The Motion Picture in the game. Play through the easy
path up to the Sector X level. Again, play the easy path, but
do not take the warp to Sector Z. When you fight the large robot
Boss, it occasionally says, "Where is the creator?"
and, "I must be complete," in a mechanical, monotone
voice. This is a reference to the character played by Persis Khambatta
in the film, in which she spoke for "V-Ger," a machine
who was seeking its creator so it could join with him and become
complete. This adds to the humor of Fox's response: "What's
he saying?", as in the movie, Kirk, Spock, and McCoy had
no idea what Khambatta's character was talking about.
Information in this section was contributed by Ellaniloc.
Glitch: Lost wing shadow:
Look at your shadow after losing either of your wings.
It will still appear as though both wings are still attached.
Information in this section was contributed by JTtrapp.
Glitch: Shadow on mountain:
If you fly through a mountain in Fortuna, your shadow
will appear as if you are going over the mountain.
Information in this section was contributed by XScream3KillerX.
Glitch: Bill speaks while dead:
Go to any course that Bill is found (Katina is the
best place to do this trick). Try to destroy Bill, and when you
do he will continue to talk even though he is dead.
Information in this section was contributed by Richie.
Glitch: Strange ring sounds:
Go to any course and get two golden rings. Pause game
play just as you get the third golden ring. If done correctly,
you will see your life grow and sound continue even though the
game is paused.
Information in this section was contributed by Richie.
Glitch: Strange enemy:
In Corneria, five enemies will immediately join in
formation at the beginning. When they are about to complete the
formation, do a somersault. If done at the correct moment, you
should see the enemy that chases Slippy before he turns in front
of you. However, no matter how many times you shoot him, he will
not die until you see him shooting Slippy.
Information in this section was contributed by James Humpert.
Glitch: Extra ring:
As you are going through the seven arches, there are
enemies that ski over the water. Shoot them and supply rings will
appear. If you get one, go to the water (down). Although it appears
as if you got two rings, you will actually just get one.
Information in this section was contributed by James Humpert.
Glitch: James McCloud ending:
Take a route to Venom that allows you to go to Area
6. Complete Area 6 and head for Venom. Defeat Starwolf and Andross,
and follow your father out of Andross's Lair. Watch Fox's team
congratulate him. After Fox says "Nothing. Nothings wrong",
look at the top left corner of the screen. Eventually, before
the credits appear, you will see a small object flying across
the screen. It is Fox's Father. You will not see this glitch if
you take the easy route (Venom1).
Information in this section was contributed by PaPaRoAcH1071.
Glitch: Invincible James McCloud:
Once you have reached Venom, (through Route 2), after
you defeat Andross' brain you will see Fox's father James McCloud.
He will tell you to follow him. Start shooting him and all of
your lasers will go through him, no matter what you throw at him.
Information in this section was contributed by SKITZZO84.
Glitch: Teammate behavior:
On the planet Corneria, take the alternate path (fly
through the seven arches ) and defeat the Boss for that stage.
He will say, "Who are you guys?". As soon as Fox's face
is clear, do a somersault and a barrel roll. If timed correctly,
your teammates should be flying around you before the "Mission
Complete" message appears. Sometimes you will fly directly
through Slippy. Also, as soon as Fox says "All aircraft report",
your teammates disappear before reappearing in formation.
Information in this section was contributed by James Humpert.
Glitch: Crash game:
In multi-player mode, fly to the top of the screen
and keep doing the turnaround boost repeatedly. Your ship will
keep climbing and eventually reach the "ceiling" and
crash the game.
Information in this section was contributed by Romulus.
