Easy Battle Square handicaps:
Rapidly tap Square during the "slot machine"

handicap. Note: This trick will also work in a similar manner
with Cait Sith's limit break.

Every time you save the game on a memory card a picture
of a character from the game will appear on it. There are fifteen
different pictures that can appear on a memory card: Cloud, Barret,
Aeris, Cait Sith, Red XIII, Cid, Tifa, Vincent, Yuffie, Rufus,
Tseng, Priscilla, Rude, Reno, and Sephiroth.
Information in this section was contributed by Rem.
Hint: Avoid back attack:
When surprised with a back attack, try running away
to automatically turn around (hold L1 + R1). This
allows your party to take less damage, however the enemy will
get the first strike.

Roughryda12, Mark Couch,
Kevin Arnado, and Woodro3887.
Hint: Use Regen as if it were Full-Life:

to turn sharply while in vehicles.
Information in this section was contributed by Ryan Alexander Pick.
Hint: Easy Key to Sector 5:
Instead of going through all of the digging to find
the "Key to Sector 5" on the top level of the Bone Village,
go to the village in Disc 3. There should be an X on the ground
in front of the ladder to the second level. Talk to the man and
dig for normal treasure in the exact center of the X three times.
The first time you should get Cid's mop, the second time you should
get W-Summon, and the third time you should get the Key to Sector
5.
Information in this section was contributed by Daboard89.
Hint: Presidential send-off tricks:
After doing the Presidential Send-Off event and receiving
your prize from Hedigger, press Square, Circle,
X, or Triangle to make Cloud do things such as place
his hands on his hips, shrug, and scratch his back with the gun.
Information in this section was contributed by Marty Tillman.
Hint: View Cloud's Omnislash from behind:
When you get Omnislash, use it. Immediately after you
select your enemies, open the lid on the PlayStation. The game
will go through all of the camera movements of the Omnislash,
but Cloud will not use the technique. When the camera stops the
second time, close the lid. About 15 seconds after you close the
door, Cloud will use Omnislash. Note: Sometimes the camera will
go in front. Make sure you have either Cloud or Red XIII in the
middle or you may not see Cloud.

Hint: Bahamnant ZERO Summon Materia details:
Walk around after boarding the Shinra No. 26 spaceship
on disc two. Your party will be able to go down to the space pod
or up the ladder to the right to the huge materia. Go to the huge
materia and use the talk button at the tall glass to speak with
Cid. He will explain the controls in this part of the game. Talk
again at the case and enter the password Circle, Square,
X, X to collect the Key Item "Huge Materia".
After travelling to Cosmo Canyon later in the game, talk to Bugenhagen.
He will take your party up to his observatory. Approach to the
Blue huge materia and get closer. Your party will receive the
Bahamnant ZERO summon materia.
Information in this section was contributed by Kevin Nutter.
Hint: Sense without wasting a turn:
Press Select to display a window above the time
bars, then sense the enemy. From this point on whenever you attack
that enemy while selecting, look in that window to see its current
HP and name. Note: This only works during the current battle.
Hint: Easy AP, Gil, and experience:
Note: A controller with a turbo feature is required
for this trick. Go to Cactuar Island (an island in the far north
east) and morph three Cactuars into Tetra Elementals. Go to the
area around Mideel and "park" your Gold Chocobo or the
Highwind on the small sliver of grass below the drop after you
pass Mideel going west (not near the forest, but on the area below
that.) Walk towards the long beach area far away from your transportation--
if you accidentally get off track, you could get on your airship
or Chocobo and drift off. Equip a Mastered Enemy Lure and weapons
that can receive the most AP (not your ultimate weapons). The
Scimitar, Apocalypse, Platinum Fist, etc. should be your priorities.
Equip the Materia you want to get a lot of AP on the weapons.
These may include Knights Of The Round, Double Cut, and Bahamut
Zero. Cloud, Cid, and Tifa work the best if they are at high levels
because they all get triple AP with certain weapons. Equip Cloud
with the Apocalypse, Mystile, and Tetra elemental; Cid (if used)
with the Scimitar, anything else, and Tetra elemental; Tifa (if
used) with Platinum Fist, anything else, and Tetra elemental.
Set turbo on Circle and keep it held (a rubber band is
suggested). Additionally, hold Down (also with a rubber
band) If correctly, you will be going left and right continuously
and encountering an enemy called the Sandworm. The maximum damage
it can do is 50 to 70 because you absorb the Sandstorm and Earthquake
attacks (due to the Tetra elementals). Each defeated Sandworm
results in 1300 EXP, 200 AP, and 5000 Gil. With luck, all materia
will be mastered and you will have millions of Gil after a few
hours.
Information in this section was contributed by Trohan.
Hint: Play "Cosmo Canyon" song:
You can play the Cosmo Canyon song on your own by going
to Tifa's house in Nibelheim. Then, press Square, Square,
Square, X, Square, Circle, Circle,
R1 + X, Circle, R1 + Square,
R1 + Square, R1 + Square, R1
+ X, Circle, R1 + X, R1 + Square,
R1 + X, Circle, R1 + X, R1
+ Square, Circle, Square, X, Circle,
Square, X, Square. Note: This serves no purpose
in the game.
Information in this section was contributed by Jonathan Fowlkes.
Hint: Play "Highwinds" song:
Play the following notes on the piano at Tifa's house
in Nibelheim: X, Square, Triangle, R1
+ Triangle, R1 + Square, X, Square
, Triangle, R1 + X, Circle, X,

+ X, Circle, R1 + Square(7), R1
+ Triangle(7), R1 + X, R1 + Circle.
Information in this section was contributed by Adam Claridge.

Heart Of The Sun" song:
Go to Tifa's house in Nibleheim and play the following
for "Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun" (by

Triangle(3), Circle, Triangle(2), Square,
Triangle. Repeat the melody a few times then play Triangle,
R1 + Triangle, R1+ Square, R1+
X, Circle, Triangle.
Information in this section was contributed by paul southard.
Hint: Extra experience (Japanese version):
When in the Gold Saucer prison, enter the well just
outside of the town. Walk around until encountering a monster
named "Test 0" which resembles a dog. You can poison
or attack it. Instead of fighting back, it will whimper and ask
that it not be hurt.
Information in this section was contributed by JTtrapp.
Glitch: Gold Saucer FMV:
When flying to Gold Saucer for the first time, the
propellers are facing the front, in the direction that it moves.
In the FMV sequence, they are on the back, propelling it.
Information in this section was contributed by Barry.
Glitch: Gold Saucer Battle Square entrance:
When you go to the Gold Saucer, go to the Battle Square.
Choose to enter the Battle Square with Cloud. Make sure you have
a different weapon, such as the Ultima weapon, equipped and enter.
When you see Cloud running in, he has his original Buster Sword
equipped. However, when you start battling, you see him with the
sword you equipped before entering.
Information in this section was contributed by InvaderX610.
Glitch: Unfinished cave:
There is a hidden cave on the pathway to the Ancient
Capital. This cave can be found right after the two screens of
the Sleeping Forest. Move to the right of the screen where the
log bridge is located. You will notice a vine hanging from a cliff.
A large opening, which is most likely a cave, can be seen hidden
within the shadows of the cliff . There is a small detour that
leads to the vine, but you cannot climb it. It has been theorized
that this "cave" is a glitch and was probably the remnant
of a side-quest in the game that was taken out.
Information in this section was contributed by Cable.
Glitch: Dead end:
When on Disc 1 at the part were you must go to the
Sleeping Forest in Bone Village, go to Yuffie's home town instead.
You will not be able to do anything and have to start again.
Information in this section was contributed by LILZO15.
Glitch: Missing part of the world:
During Disc 3, while riding a Chocobo or flying the
Highwind on the world map, a part of the world will be cut off.
You must go to another location immediately. If you remain at
the cut off place too long, the screen will freeze and turn black
with a small, gray box and a flashing question mark inside. If
you wait, the game may recover, but it sometimes does not. Note:
The cut off part of the world map will be black.
Information in this section was contributed by Yuan Tam.
Glitch Changing sword name:
When you are at the Gold Saucer the second time after
Wutai, make sure you have the "Yoshiyuki" weapon for
Cloud. Go to the Battle Arena and choose Cloud to enter. When
he is running to the center of the arena, he will have a "Buster
Sword" instead of the "Yoshiyuki". However, in
the battle he has the "Yoshiyuki".
Information in this section was contributed by Rick Marcinowski.
Glitch: Golden Saucer Battle Square:
Note: This trick is done with Cloud. Equip any weapon
that he can use except his initial weapon, the Buster Sword (for
example, Ragnarok). When you register for the Battle Square, choose
Cloud to enter. When he runs in the battle room, he will have
his Buster Sword. However, when you go into battle you will have
the other sword that was equipped.
Information in this section was contributed by DiamondDice8245.
Glitch: Aeris' Limit Break:
When you get the Highwind, you can get Mythril from
the sleeping man. You can give the Mythril to the weapon seller
and he will let you open one of his boxes (the one at the end
of the upstairs hallway or the on in the corner). If you choose
the small one, you will get Aeris' Great Gospel Limit Break. However,
if you have the Highwind, then Aeris is no longer with you.
Information in this section was contributed by Frozenflame28.
Glitch: Aeris' ribbon:
In the FMV sequence where Aeris has her final scene,
her hair ribbon and the White Materia will come off her. After
the FMV sequence, Cloud runs up and catches her. She will have
the ribbon in her hair.

if you walk into it.

Circle + Up. The Highwind will hover above the ground.
While still holding Circle + Up, hold X.
Cloud's head will come out and go back in the Highwind
Information in this section was contributed by Hussain Zafar.
Glitch: Disappearing Barret and Tifa:
When you are at the Shinra building, you must climb
up a large number stairs on the side of the building to reach
the 59th floor. When you are on the fifth or sixth flight of stairs,
you will see Barret's and Tifa's speech bubbles with comments
to each other as they (supposedly) run up the stairs wheezing
and puffing. You will see Cloud at the beginning of the flight
of stairs, but Barret and Tifa are not running up them. However,
unlike the other flights of stairs, they are already at the top
of them.
Information in this section was contributed by TheRock81485.
Glitch: Frozen game:
When you are dressed as a woman in the sector Don Corneo
lives in, go in front of the Honey Bee. When all the men move
towards you, the fat man in the red vest will be the last one
to block you off from the Honey Bee. Before he blocks you off,
quickly close all dialogue boxes and run around him. A box that
says "Hey, Cloud" will appear and the game will freeze.
Information in this section was contributed by Threefiddy350.

in the town including Tifa and the nurse in the clinic. This also
works in several other towns.
Glitch: Submarine through Emerald Weapon:
Take the sub to the bottom of the ocean. You now have
to make Emerald Weapon fly over you, which is not easy. One trick
is to wait in the bottom of the crater in the middle of the ocean.
When Emerald Weapon swims over, quickly press X to go back
to the surface. You will run into Emerald Weapon. The battle music
will start and you will encounter a black screen then mysteriously
be on the surface.

Glitch: Characters move after being hit:
Go to a place where you can fight a Crown Lance (Flying
Jellyfish). Wait until it does the attack Deadly Needles. Run
away when a character becomes petrified. When you run, the petrified
character will turn around and be in a running position but not
move.
Information in this section was contributed by Meatjake.
Glitch: Gargoyles in North Crater:
Use an attack on the gargoyles in the North Crater
and make sure it hits both of them at the same time. Use Flash
immediately after the attack. They will turn green as usual and
the death sound will play, but they are still alive.
Information in this section was contributed by KRU-Vegetto.
Glitch: Highwind through Ruby Weapon:
Ride the Highwind. Bump the red object around Gold
Saucer (Ruby Weapon), then escape the battle. You should now be
able to see Ruby Weapon's entire body on the world map. Bump Ruby
Weapon again while flying the Highwind backwards. Hold Down
+ Square to fly the Highwind backwards. The Highwind will
pass through Ruby Weapon, but you will still initiate a fight.
Information in this section was contributed by wilpeter lao.
Glitch: Go to next screen without leaving
current screen:
Use the finger in certain towns and dungeons. You can
move Cloud around the red arrow that points out the exit without
leaving the screen. When that happens, you can walk behind the
arrow and go to the next screen. This happens quite often in some
areas of the Great Glacier and Junon, or where there are wide
spaces that lead to other screens.
Information in this section was contributed by Jarrod
Beauregard.
Glitch: Quadra magic without any Chocobo
breeding:
Take the Highwind to the Materia cave containing Quadra
magic and you will soon notice their is some land behind the cave.
It helps to change the camera angle to the bird's eye view. Try
to land on that little space. This rarely works, but when it does
your Highwind will be on the land, and you will be directly in
front of the cave. This seems to work better if you also have
a Chocobo on the Highwind.
Information in this section was contributed by LionHeart708.
Glitch: Phantom Chocobo:
Get a Chocobo in a stable, talk to Billy, and choose
"Riding". Once you are outside, get off your Chocobo
and go back inside. Talk to Billy again, and choose "Feeding",

where that Chocobo you rode was located, to find a phantom looking
Chocobo.

you cannot get the keycard from him. You will have to start the
game again.

Information in this section was contributed by SpunkyChicken2.
Glitch: Looping magic:
In a battle, cast "Reflect" on the opponent
and then do same thing on yourself. Then, cast Fire, Ice, Lightning
or anything else on your opponent or yourself. The chosen materia
will "loop" between you and the enemy forever. You will
have to restart or turn off the PlayStation to escape.
Information in this section was contributed by JOHANSSON TOMAS.
Glitch: Mimic and Limit Break:
This trick requires the Mimic Materia and any character.
Equip the character with the Mimic Materia and get into a battle.
During that battle, if the Mimic character gets a chance to use
their Limit Break, stop taking actions with the other two persons.
If you use the Mimic character's Limit Break and without using
anyone else's turns, then use the Mimic command, you will Mimic
your own Limit Break. This can be used infinitely until another
character takes an action, the Mimic character dies, or the battle
ends.
Information in this section was contributed by Matt Duffey.
Glitch: Double kill:
Have Aeris and Tifa in your party. Use Seal Evil with
Aeris then finish the paralyzed monster with Tifa's normal attack.
It will die two times.
Information in this section was contributed by Benoit Houle.
This can occur while fighting the Ultima weapon the final time
above Cosmo Canyon. Its final attack is Shadow Flare, and he will
use it on the character that kills him. First, choose who is going
to deliver the final blow to the Ultima Weapon. Cast Reflect on
that character. When he dies, he will cast Shadow Flare, and it
will reflect off your character and hit him. He will die, then
die again. This technique also works good if you are collecting
Enemy Skills. Just put Reflect and the Enemy Skill Materia on
the character who will deliver the final blow. You will get Shadow
Flare, and it will not be harmful to that character.
Information in this section was contributed by STEVEN BESTER.
Glitch: Tseng alive again:
When you get to Gongaga do not get the Titan Summon
Materia. Continue the game until you get out of the Temple Of
The Ancients (Tseng is now dead). Get the Titan Summon Materia
now. Tseng will get out of the helicopter with Scarlet and the
little sequence will start. Tseng should not be there, as he was
killed by Sephiroth in the Temple Of The Ancients.
Information in this section was contributed by Phillip Cormier.
Glitch: Fighting Sephiroth:
When fighting the very last form of Sephiroth, normally
your limit will fill and you can use Omnislash. However, if you
press Triangle to skip your turn as in a normal battle,
you will see the same thing happen to Sephiroth as if you had
attacked.
Information in this section was contributed by danieljs11.
When fighting Sephiroth for the very last time, instead of attacking,
choose "Defend". If you have a mastered Counter Attack
Materia equipped, Cloud will attack Sephiroth. Regardless of how
many HPs the attack gives, the same thing will happen to Sephiroth
as if you used Omnislash.

Glitch: Controls:
Go into the options and change the "OK" button
to "X" and "Cancel" to "Circle".

stables. He will tell you to select the Chocobo you want to put

it cancels out. You must have the normal controller settings to
do anything with the Chocobos.

buy the two nuts that he is selling -- the Porov nut and the Pram
nut. Go to the Chocobo rancher's son at the Chocobo Ranch. Ask
him if you can buy something, and buy the Luchile nut and the
Pepio nut. Now ask the Rancher's son if you can mate two Chocobos.
Do not worry -- you will not have to mate the two. When he asks
you what kind of nut you want to give them, instead of showing
"Porov nut", "Porofu will be displayed. It is also
different with the Pram/Param nut, Luchile/Ruchin nut, and Pepio/Pipio
nut.-
