Metal Gear Solid

Technical demonstration mode:
Successfully complete the following modes in order "Training", "Time Trial", "Gun Shooting", "Survival". Note: Completing each mode will unlock the next mode in the sequence. "Technical demonstration" mode will now be unlocked. Use it to watch the CPU demonstrate its best time with the gun.

Alternate costumes:
Successfully complete the game, wait until the credits end, and save the game. Load the saved game file and play through the game again. After successfully completing the game a second time, wait until the credits end, and save the game. Load the saved game and play through the game again. Snake will change into a tuxedo in the elevator during this game.

Konami game surprise:
Play the game using a memory card that contains a saved game from any prior Konami title (Castlevania Symphony Of The Night, ISS Soccer, Suikoden, Policenauts, Silent Hill etc.) When Psycho Mantis attempts to read your character's mind, he will mention various game titles.

Saved game comment:
If you save the game frequently enough by the time you reach Psycho Mantis and he attempts to read your character's mind, he will mention how wise you are. If you have saved the game less than three times by the time you reach Psycho Mantis, he will mention how reckless you are.

Control briefing view:
Wait for the message "Camera Change" or "Camera Free" to appear during a briefing. Press Square or Triangle to zoom in or out. Press Circle to switch views. Press X to stop the briefing.

Stealth gear:
Successfully complete the game under the easy difficulty level after submitting during the torture by pressing Select. Otacon will give your character the stealth gear after being saved. Allow the credits to complete, then save the game. Load the saved game to begin with the stealth gear.

If you do not press Select and you defeated Liquid Snake on top of the destroyed Metal Gear on the first match (no retries), you will get the Stealth gear. It does not matter what happens to Snake when he is being shocked. Whether surrendering or not you can still get the stealth gear.

Bandana:
Successfully complete the game without submitting to the torture. Your character will save Meryl and receive the Bandana. When equipped, the bandana will allow unlimited ammunition on any weapon.

Tuxedo Snake:
When you start your game for the third time on the same save, the memory card icon will be the Ninja. Snake will be change into a tuxedo when he is in the elevator. Additionally, the "Cyber Ninja" will be in a red costume.

Stealth Gear and Bandana:
Successfully complete the game in normal mode after submitting to the torture sequence. Wait through the end credits. A short FMV sequence showing Snake and Emerich getting on a snowmobile will begin. Snake and Emerich will talk for awhile, then Emerich will give him the Stealth Gear. Wait for the score and skill rating screen to appear. Save the game, turn off the PlayStation, then reload the game that was saved. You will start at the first level (dock) and now have the Stealth Gear. You should now not submit to the torture sequence so you can save Meryl and get both the Bandana and Stealth Gear.

Camera:
Reach area B2 of the tank hanger. At the end of the hallway to the right of the door where you fight revolver is a secret room that is entered after using C4 explosive. In the room are card 4 and card 6 doors. The camera is in the room behind the card 4 door. Use the camera to take pictures to see various extras, such as the faces of the development team.

Pantless Meryl:
When you find Meryl on patrol in the office, she runs to the women's bathroom. Follow Meryl into the Women's bathroom and reach the last stall in under five seconds. Meryl will be caught with her pants down during an FMV sequence.

Look in the vent just before the DARPA chief (Decoy Octopus) to see Meryl doing sit-ups. Leave the vent and re-enter and she will be doing one-armed pushups. Repeat and she will be doing leg stretches on the wall. Repeat one more time and she will be doing the leg stretches while pantless.

Run and shoot simultaneously:
Take out your weapon (for example, the SOCOM pistol), then hold Square + X and move Snake on the D-pad. He will run and shoot simultaneously.

Accurate shots with rocket launcher:
When you get the sniper rifle and the rocket launcher, look through the sniper rifle and aim at your target. Then, quickly change to the rocket launcher and fire. This will result in a more precise and accurate shot.

Cheats: Weapons, Items, Characters, Locations


Glitch: Mystery suppresser:
A FMV sequence will start after Revolver Ocelot is defeated. A ninja appears and cuts Revolver's hand off. When Snake points his gun at the ninja, it has a suppresser attached, even if it was not previously obtained.

Glitch: No suppresser:
After killing Sniper Wolf for the second time, she asks Snake to "set her free". When Snake shoots her, his SOCOM has no suppresser, even if it was obtained.

Glitch: Shoot Liquid Snake:
After entering the third Pal code, Miller is revealed dead, and Liquid fills the room with gas, have Otacon open the door. After exiting, look slightly to the right of Metal Gear's head. You will see Liquid standing there. You can shoot him with your PSG-1, but the bullets will just bounce off. Do not use the Stinger, as it is needed for Metal Gear Rex. You cannot use the Nikita in the Metal Gear room, and you cannot get close enough to use the other weapons.

Glitch: See events before they happen:
Hold Triangle to look around and press L1 or R1. This will cause Snake to peek left or right. You can use this so see things before they happen. For example, immediately after the DARPA Chief dies and Meryl opens the door, stand right next to the door that was opened. Look her way, and peek. You will see Meryl pressed up against a wall. Also, in the room with all the dead bodies after the gas place, move approximately one inch away from the corner. Move all the way onto the wall across from it. Look and peek to see a guard being held up by Grey Fox. Also, before you go into the room where you fight Ocelot, blow up the wall and look inside. You can see the president held against the wall. Note: If you accidently shoot him, the game will end.

Glitch: Run across noisy surfaces without being heard:
Repeatedly press R1 button to equip and unequip the SOCOM. If done quickly enough, Snake will glide across the floor.

Glitch: White out mode:
This trick requires six C4 explosives and a turbo controller. Go to the place where you took the elevator in the beginning. Place one C4 on each of three soldier's back and one C4 under each of the three cameras. Crawl into one of the two vents. Do not crawl all the way into the vent. Turn around so you can see outside of the vent. Pause the game. Set the turbo feature to the detonate button for the C4, then resume game play. Hold the detonate button the screen should turn white.

Glitch: Fall off the side of a building:
When fighting the Hind on top of the Comm Tower, shoot a Stinger Missile at the box-like object across from the door. Set yourself up so that you are facing the corner of it with the horizon behind you. Aim at the bottom of it and shoot. If done correctly, you should four or five backflips and be standing in the air. The Hind cannot hurt you and you can still shoot at it. When you destroy it, the intermission sequence will start and you will be able to continue.

Glitch: Impossible to fall:
It is impossible to fall off of Rex (the destroyed Metal Gear) despite the fact in the FMV sequence, Liquid Snake says that you will fall to your death if you cross the line. Note: You will still hang on to Rex if you cross the line. To get back up, rapidly press any button.

Glitch: Impossible jeep battle:
After you defeat Metal Gear and Liquid Snake, Otacon or Meryl (depending on the torture event) will try to find a jeep in the large room down the corridor. Shoot the barrels next to the north wall. When you get in the jeep you cannot go any further, even if you kill as many guards as you can. The game will think the barrels are still there.

When you are escaping in the jeep at the very end, hold Triangle to enter first-person view mode. This can be very helpful when you are trying to shoot Liquid or the gas barrels.

Glitch: Guard already beaten:
Go to the lower left corner of the cell where the DARPA chief (Decoy Octopus) died. Press Left and hold Triangle. During what sounds like the guard getting beaten by Meryl, you will see Meryl just standing their with the guard already stunned.

Glitch: Still alive:
After the torture, if you do not submit and just die, press Select after time runs out and you will see Snake strain -- still alive. The game will end abruptly without Liquid Snake saying "Ocelot! You did it again!".

Go to were the Darpa Chief is located. Enter the level 6 door in the hall were the elevator is located. Wait for approximately five seconds without getting the red box with your clothes. Walk back through the door and go to Jonny Sasaki (the guard on the ground). He will not have the censor blur over his body. Note: You cannot use the elevator until you get the box with your clothes and items.

Use a GameShark and turn on the level 10 key to open all doors after being tortured by Revolver. Open the door before getting the red box and go out in the hall. Then, go to the Darpa Chief's room where the guard was naked. He will be completely naked when you open the door. You can take a picture, then get the red box - you cannot leave because the elevator is turned off. Remember that Revolver has placed a hidden bomb in the box, so throw it away.

Faster ninja rescue:

In the Medi room, use ketchup on the ground four times and let the guard see you. He will start laughing. When he goes to the bathroom , the Ninja will shoot the door and it will open. Kill the guard when he returns. If you get shot, use the ketchup to refill your health. Note: You will not have the level 6 security card if this trick is used.
