Cheap Blitzball players:
Check the local Travel Agency for Blitzball players.
John Dang.

Better Blitzball players:
If you are bad at Blitzball, keep playing until a good team fires one of their players. Then, go to the team and find the player that they fired and hire him.

When playing Blitzball, you may notice players on other teams that are better than the players on your team. If you wish to switch players, simply scout the opposing player, and note how many games they have left on their contract. If you can afford to pay your other team members' salaries, you can simply play multiple exhibition games against the team with the player you want, and after each game starts, press Triangle to Forfeit. This will not hurt your team, since no-one on the opposing team will gain experience. Once the number of games on the desired player's contract is reduced to 1, find the player and scout them again (this makes the team less likely to re-sign him or her). Save your game, play another exhibition game, and forfeit. After the game, the team will either release or re-sign the player, but you can reset your game and try multiple times until the player is released. Then, head back and sign the player for your own team.
Matthew Rorie.

To win every one of your early games of Blitzball easily (asides from the first rather unfair one), you need to pick up the correct people after the events in Luca. Recruit Zev Ronso (standing near dock 4 on the eastern side) and have him take the MF position. Recruit Wedge from the gate near the Auroch's locker room and have him take LF or RF. Tidus stays in the other LF or RF slot. Recruit Jumal from the square near the theater/seaport side and make him your goalie. Eventually, recruit Ropp from Rin's store on the Highroad and have him take over for one of your defenders. Swing Letty back with Jassu as defenders to start, and keep Letty to do the passing after getting Ropp. Here is the strategy needed to win. Tidus and Wedge will quickly become the nastiest front team in the game. Once Tidus hits level 3, equip Jecht Shot (you should have this from the boat ride to Luca). When he charges for a goal, keep his defenders down to two and Jecht Shot will mow them both down, giving him a SH 18+ shot on goal. He can usually do this once per half, for two easy points. Wedge has 65 SP and 17 SH. He can especially victimize the Ronso team, as they are slow. Have him zip to the goal, shoot, and score. At level 3, equip Wither Shot for even more nastiness. Zev is almost the perfect midfielder. A shade slow, but he can hit, pass, endure, tackle, block -- a great set up man for your forwards. If they kept track of assists, Zev would be through the roof. Letty and Jassu have good speed and attack, and both can pass. Since your goalie (Jumal) has a 14 CA and can equip Super Goalie at level 3, they do not really need to be there to stop shots. Let them pass to each other if you want good ball control. Ropp is a vicious defender with great attack, block, and pass. Use him as further insurance, especially against the Guado team. Keep leveling, grab some techs, and no one can stop you.
Habba the Jutt.

You probably will not win the first (unfair) game of Blitzball with the Luca Goers. However, use the following trick to win every game besides that. First, in Luca after that game and the events that happen at the stadium, go to dock 4 and get Zev Ronso and make him your MF. Next, get Jumal near the bar sitting on a bench and make him your Goalie. After that, go to the stairs that lead to the stadium, get Wedge, and make him you RF. Make Tidus your LF and make sure he has the Jecht Shot. It can take two people out when your in a breakthrough. Wedge will have a shot of 17 and Zev is excellent for a beginner because his shot and pass are sort of balanced but his EN is strong. Jumal will be a goalie with a starting catch of 15. If you keep leveling up Jumal, he will get Super Goalie. Also, try out other people in different towns as well. Press Square to see if some people are on other teams or a free player. Press X for the free players to join.

It is possible to do well in Blitzball without hiring other players. Blitzball members will gain experience by how they participate in the game, and by how well they participate. If your team makes successful attacks, shots, catches, passes, etc. they will gain experience and their stats will increase. Basically, if your team has more time with the ball, you will gain more experience points for your team. In a Blitzball game, take note of the opposing team's stats, and find out what most of their weaknesses are. You will now know who to avoid and who to ignore in a game. Also, if someone is on your tail while you are dribbling the ball, you may want to take care of them as soon as possible. If your dribbler survives the attack, the attack will be far behind and your dribbler will be able to advance the ball without worrying about too many attackers.

Wake up sleeping Blitzball players:
If any of your players have been put to sleep by a nap tackle, change your strategy and they will automatically wake up without you having to lose the ball by throwing it at them. For example, if Tidus is put to sleep by a nap tackle and your current strategy is Normal Attack, switch to Left Attack and he will wake up.

Defeating the Al Bhed Physics:
Because the goalkeeper has a very high Cat, just have someone learn Nap Shot. Learning Sleep Shot 2 or 3 would even be better. Then, shoot at the goalkeeper with Nap Shot. Almost every time, it will put him to sleep. Then, just shoot at him normally with either Tidus, Datto, or even Letty. It will always go in unless your shot reaches 0 or it will wake up the goalkeeper.
Chase Copat.

Using your defensemen:
Have either of your defensemen have the ball, then have them carry it all the way around the edge of the Sphere Pool. This will attract all of the other players toward you. At the correct moment, pass the ball to either of your forwards. They will be wide open with no people on them, except for perhaps one defensemen, but you should easily dodge them.
Chase Copat.

Easy Blitzball win:
After the gaining control of the airship, scout Brother (the man flying it). Put him on you team for as many games as you can afford. He is very fast and will be a good player to have on your team. Also have Tidus and another good shooter and put them in your RF and LF positions. Have Brother be your MF. The rest of the positions do not matter. When your team gets the ball, give it to Brother. Dribble in with him and go around all of the defenders. If you get close enough, the defenders will follow you. Since Brother is so fast dribbling in, get all defenders on you, and dribble the opposite direction to the goal your team is guarding. If all defenders follow you, should be able to get away from the defenders enough so you can have an open pass down the other half of the sphere. Pass it to one of the open players down the sphere. If Tidus has the Sphere or Jecht Shot, give it to him or someone else that is open. Once you pass it, dribble down with the player who received the pass. You should have an open shot. Take it at point blank range, since it is very possible to do that. You should score most of the time. Continue this to rack up points and the game should be no problem. If you just want to waste down the clock, give the ball to Brother and just run around. No one should be able to catch him. Note: This trick works the best when playing the Ronso Fangs.
taylor yuarkjaa.

When playing get at least one more point the other team. Once you get the ball again, keep on you side of the field and do not move. The clock will tick by and no one will come after you, letting you win the game.

After you score a goal, all you have to do to win is win the Blitzoff. Do not touch any buttons if you win -- just sit there. The opposing team usually just swims in circles, allowing the time to expire without them getting the ball. Watch your HP -- when you are standing still it goes down fast. This also works sometimes when you pass to a player that is far away from the other team.

Shoot one goal then try to get possession of the ball again. Once done, hide behind your goalie (not the goalpost) and no one will bother you. The players will start spinning in place. Send your players to the other side or as far over as possible. Pass to your best shooter and make a break for it.

Get Tidus' Jecht Shot. It is almost the best move in the game. Get the ball to Tidus, and swim to the other goal, avoiding other players as much as possible. Get in front of the goal, and make sure two or less players are around you. Use the Jecht Shot and you should be able to score with ease. With the remainder of the game, get the ball to anyone on your team and hide behind your goalie. The other players will not approach you. Time will run out and you will win the game.

Use the following trick to win the first Blitzball game. Learn the Jecht Shot on the boat. When the game starts and you get the ball, change your formation to the left or right side and stay near your goal. Just pass the ball around and try to get people leveled up, especially Tidus. When the half is over, equip Tidus with either the Jecht Shot (recommended) or Sphere Shot. When the second half starts, do your best to keep the other team from scoring and when you get the chance, have Tidus shoot with the Jecht Shot. You need to score at least once before Wakka comes in. If you are close enough and are able to make it without the Jecht Shot, do so, and save the Jecht Shot for another opportunity. If you can score at least twice, you should be able to win. When Wakka comes in (the Goers get the ball and usually score no matter what), do what you did at the start and stay near your goal. If they do get close, pass the ball. When you get down to the last 30 seconds or so shoot the ball. Since you are over by a goal, it should not leave the Goers with enough time to score.

Use the following trick to win the first Blitzball game. In the first half of the game, just pass the ball between your players. Do not go near the Goers. Keep the ball back and make sure all your players get at least two passes each. This will raise there experience and level. When the match timer gets to 4:00, stick to the bottom of the sphere and travel down to the Goer's goal. If you wait, the Goers will not go near you. Wait until Tidus is unmarked (use the radar). Pass to the ball to him and have him move towards the goal. When you are close, shoot. You may come across a Goers -- Break him (do not select No Break or it will ruin your shot. You should score. This should take at least 45 seconds to accomplish, leaving 15 seconds remaining on the clock until half time. When the Goers kick off, they will not have enough time to score. In the second, half do the same (pass the ball and keep away from the Goers). When the match timer gets to 1:45, stick to the bottom of the sphere and travel down to the Goer's goal. Wait until Tidus is unmarked (use the radar). Pass the ball to him. Instead of moving forward, use Tidus' Sphere Shot. Make sure you get at least 21 SH and it will sail in. This should take at least 40 seconds. The Goers will kick off. However, before they get a chance to score against you, the match will stop. When the clock hits 2:30 the game will stop and Wakka will come on, causing the kick off to be retaken, giving ypu the ball. Hold the ball near the edge of the arena and the Goers will not come near. Wait until the clock stops and you have won the game.
David O'Flynn.

Make sure that you have Tidus in the RF position, the Jecht Shot, and movement set to "Manual A". When you get the ball, pass it to Tidus. Swim down the right side of the pool (bottom of map). Since he has decent speed, he will get down to the opposite side quickly. Whenever an opposing player gets close to him, repeatedly press Triangle until the movement menu appears. Choose "Manual A" again, then any formation. As soon as this menu disappears, continue swimming. As you will notice, the other players will stop moving for about two seconds. Continue to do this on your way to the goal and you will have little resistance. Then, just use the Jecht Shot to score. Keep in mind that the Jecht Shot only hits two opponents at a time, so try to minimize resistance. Make sure you swim into the goal so that you have your maximum SH by the time the ball reaches the goalie. Repeat this strategy and you will be able to win easily. It also helps to have a good team.

Use the following trick to win the first Blitzball match. It is a good idea to have the Jecht Shot beforehand. Use the default line up stings and equip the Jecht Shot. If you do not have it, then use Sphere Shot. Just before the match starts, quickly press X to increase your chances of possession. If you get possession, go directly for the top edge of the field and get as close to the goal post as possible without getting more than one encounter at a time. Once you have gotten at least within a quarter length away from the goal, pass it to Tidus. If you have the Jecht Shot, then it does not matter if he is covered if not. Otherwise, try to shake off some of the Goers, then use the Sphere Shot. Keep using this method and make changes where needed. It will not be too difficult if you are observant. Note: If you are using the Jecht Shot, it takes a lot more HP than the Sphere Shot or the normal one. If you are ahead, you may want to switch to the sphere shot in the second half.

The first Blitzball match that you play is a bit unfair. Keepa only has 5 CA, meaning any unguarded shots from the front three will probably go in, and your best player (Tidus) gets taken off at about 2.30 at the second half. In the first half, get control of the ball. If they score from the Blitzoff, that is bad but not critical. When you control the ball, pass it around. Every time a player makes a successful pass, he gains 1 exp. Make sure Tidus makes one pass, as that is all that is needed to level him up. Apart from that, train up the four Aurochs with repeated passing, concentrating on Datto. Repeat until the end of the first half. This should leave your players reaching at least level 2, with Tidus at level 3. Equip him with Jecht Shot. At the start of the second half, if they have scored, try and score back by either getting as close as possible with only two encounters of Jecht Shot, but if not, using Sphere Shot. Make sure the match is level, and grab control of the ball. Pass repeatedly, again concentrating on Datto, but using Letty, Jassu, and Botta also. When Wakka comes on, repeat the tactic. At the end of the second half, Datto, and possibly some others should level up again. Equip Datto with Nap Shot, and anyone else with any Techs. You should now be around the Goers Level, and Datto has the power of Nap Shot. If you are lucky, Keepa will have even saved a shot, and with the bonus a goalie always gets, he will be level 2. Now, hold up the ball with Letty or Wakka, and when Datto only has the one defender around him, pass to Datto and use Nap Shot. If you are lucky, you will score. If not, you could put Raudy to Sleep. Repeat until you score. If Wakka gets in the clear, however, do not hesitate to use him. You could also try Nap Shooting from a distance. This tactic may take multiple attempts, but it should work in the end.

Go behind your goalie when the other team's players are not to close. Face the same direction as your goalie once you get behind him/her, and the other team will just keep swimming in circles. Do this after you score a point and they will just spin the entire game and you will win. Note: Make sure the other team's players are not too close, or it will not work; about half to three quarters of the playing field is necessary.

The Luca Goers in the first tournament is the most unfair game in the world of Blitzball. In the opening half, Grav collects the ball and will pass it to Bickson. The chances of Bickson scoring a goal are very high. Hope that Botta takes the ball off of him or Bickson will score. Either way, you can still win even if Bickson scores. Pass the ball to Jassu. Jassu can pass the ball to Tidus, who passes the ball to Letty, who passes to Botta, who passes to Datto, who goes to Letty, who passes to Jassu, etc. Keep doing this until half time. Tidus should get to level 3, and if you know the Jecht Shot this will be easier. If have the Jecht Shot, pass the ball straight to Tidus. Go right up to the goals, making sure that you only have two people on you. Select "Shoot" and then "Jecht Shot". You should be successful unless you are too far out. Then, resume the strategy used in the first half and you should win. If you do not have the Jecht Shot, do the same as you would with the Jecht Shot, but make sure you only have one person on you and use the Sphere Shot.
brad dalton.

In any game against any team, set Botta in RF, Jassu in LF, Tidus in MF, Datto (Rin, optional) in RD, Letty in LD, and Keepa (Yuma Guado, optional) in GL. Set the best skills (Sphere Shot, Pile Venom, etc.) to everyone. Yuma Guado and Rin are both better than the other possible players. Tidus should have Sphere Shot at about level 5 or 6. The following is a list of how players are good at doing certain things:

Tidus: Shooting
Botta: Passing
Letty: Passing
Jassu: Passing
Datto: Shooting
Keepa: Goaltending
Rin: Passing
Yuma Guado: Goaltending

To find other players for your team, press Square to see the info on how good a player is. For example, try Lakkam who plays for the Al Bhed. Once her contract is over, you can find her somewhere in the game and get her for a player. She is very bad at shooting (1) but great at passing (20-23).

Use the following trick to win the first, unfair, Blitzball game. Save just before the game. When the game starts press all the buttons on your controller to get possession of the ball. When you get possession, swim toward the Goers' net as much as you can without getting caught. Then, quickly pass it all the back to Jassu. He is the fastest player in this game. Swim down to the end of the sphere pool and towards the Goers net. When you think you are about to get caught by the Goers, pass it to Letty if he is open. If not, pass it to Botta. With Letty you would have a high pass. Lure the Goers toward Letty, or away from the Goers' net. Do not let Letty get caught. When you watch Tidus on the map, he will be on the bottom left. He will be with an opposing player. Just before he starts swimming away from the Goers' net, pass it to him. He will have a player on him but should be able to break away and score. With the remainder of time, you can try doing this again, but it is not recommended. You may not have enough time. Instead, keep the ball away from the Goers until half time so they will not score. When the second half starts, you should have Jecht Shot. You only have three minutes until Wakka comes out. Do the same thing as done previously; try to get Tidus the ball with a maximum of only two break people. Make sure you are not poisoned (or any other status problem) and have at least 120 HP so you can do the Jecht. If you score, you should be safe for the game. Try to keep the ball away from the Goers.

For the following trick to work long-term, you need to be willing to get your players to over level 80. First, scout Wedge (one of the stadium guards in Luca) and make him your LD by replacing him with Jassu. Then, recruit Jumal (sitting on the bench in Luca Square) and make him your GL by replacing him with Keepa. Everyone else on the team will be excellent already. When Wedge and Jumal get to about level 80 to 90, switch their positions so Jumal is LD and Wedge is GL. The reason you should not keep Jumal as goalie is because his CA tops off at 41, while his AT is much better. Even though Wedge is good enough to keep as a defender, his 62 CA is much better used as goalie. Do this and your team should be unbeatable. Do not make Wedge a goalie early, because his CA stays at about 5 until level 50.

Get Brother as the middle man, Tidus as the right forward, Ropp as the left forward, and Jumall as the goalie. Ropp wil be the main man here, since his attack his very high if his level is over 30. If he cannot do the job, then have Brother do Wither Tackle 3. Since Brother has the fastest speed in the game, have him lure the other team's players all the way across the other side of the sphere, then throw a pass to Tidus. Have him shoot a Jecht Shot, Jecht Shot 2, or a Sphere Shot. Those will assure a goal. If you think that you are going to lose, hide behind your goalie and wait there until time runs out. Both teams will run around in circles. Continue this until your players' levels are unbeatable.

Bonus Blitzball items:
At the end of a season or tournament in Blitzball, if two or more of your players are tied for the lead in scoring, you will receive an item for each of them. For example, if Tidus and Wakka both finish a tournament with four goals each The prize for leading scorer is a Return Sphere. You will receive a Return Sphere for both Wakka and Tidus, giving you two of them.

Set up the following players with the indicated moves
Tidus: RF (Jecht Shot 2, Nap Shot 3, Anti-Venom 2, Nap Tackle 3, Regen)
Brother: LF (Sphere Shot, Nap Shot 3, Anti-Venom 2, Nap Tackle 3, Volley Shot 3)
Tatts: MF, found at Kilika: Dock (Nap Pass 3, Nap Tackle 3, Brawler, Anti-Wither 2, Wither Tackle 3)
Myu: LD, found at Moonflow: South Warf (Nap Pass 3, Nap Tackle 3, Venom Tackle 3, Anti-Nap 2, Wither Tackle 3)
Zev Ronso: RD, found at Luca Harbor: #5 Dock (Nap Pass 3, Nap Tackle 3, Drain Tackle 3, Anti-Nap 2, Venom Tackle 3)
Jumal: GL, found at Luca Square (Super Goalie, Anti-Nap 2, Anti-Venom 2, Anti-Drain 2, Anti-Wither 2)
With Tidus, let him get the ball, then Jecht Shot out of control. Regen helps the HP loss from this. Brother is a fast shooter and major staple. Abuse Sphere Shot to your liking. Since all of your players have high BL, Volley Shot is good to have. Tatts will see the most use. Since he is midfield, have Brawler so he can participate in encounters on either side. Nap Pass is great with his high PA. With Miyu and Zev Ronso, Bait and Tackle. Stop all opponents from shooting in your goal. Jumal stops all status ailments. Anti-Drain can be replaced with whatever desired. Have Tidus and Brother mark the opposing Goalie. Have Myu mark your opponent's LF, and Zev mark the opponent's RF. Change play to mark mode. Tatts does not need to mark an opponent's character. Note: This strategy assumes that your team is at level 99. This is a good team even at level 5, though. Use your Nap Techniuqes often. Jumal can be replaced with Nimrook (Al Behd Psyche's goalie). Miyu can be replaced with Jassu (found in Auroch's locker room). Most techs can be used with lower versions.
Lenna: LF (ends with 90 shot)
Wakka: RF (ends with 82 shot and can learn Auroch's Spirit)
Tidus: Center (Jecht Shot, high endurance, and good speed)
Brother: LB (extremley fast 99 speed, with average shot and good defensive stats)
Ropp: RB (extremely good attack, pass, and block)
Nimrook- G (best catch, ends with 70)
Charles Stewart.
Wedge: LF (Guard outside of the Luca Blitzball area at the Luca main hall)

Mastering the Jecht Shot:
When you are on the ship about to go to Luca and ready to practice it, do not do it when it the game displays the directional arrows. Instead, do it when the sentences from Jecht appear on the screen. For example, when the voice of Jecht says "You're never gonna make it kid" on the bottom right corner of the screen, press Left Analog-stick Right then X and it will disappear. There are a total of eleven sentences that he says. Keep resetting it until you master it.

The easiest way to get the Jecht shot is to not follow the instructions. Go through the demo, and when it is your turn to try, instead of trying to match the CPU, quickly rotate the Left Analog-stick clockwise while pressing X button as quickly as possible. You are not penalized for wrong entries, so this method very quickly ensures that you will get the required number of entries.

On the first time you on the boat with the chance to get the Jecht shot, go up to the ball. Rapidly rotate the D-pad in a counter-clockwise direction and the press X when Tidus is doing the Jecht shot. There is a chance you may get it, if you are quick enough.

Multiple prizes:
If you can manage to keep two or three characters at the exact same number of goals and also have them all be top scorer at the end of the tournament or season, you will earn the top scorer prize for each of them.
