Defeating Fatman: After killing Fatman on the Helipad on Shell 1, he
has one last bomb hidden. The bomb is under him. You cannot diffuse
it with him in your way. Unequip your weapon, drag his body out
of the way, and freeze it with the Coolant. nagle10.
Its better to diffuse all the bombs first before you start this
trick. After you have diffused all the bombs,Fatman will start
skating around the heliport. You can either stand in one corner
and start shooting at him and risk getting shot or run over by
him; or you can do it the easy way. Notice that there are four
rows (or columns) of crates on the heliport. Keep going straight
and crawling under the very last crate to your left. You can stay
there and shoot Fatman from this location. If he cannot see you,
he will always stay behind one of the toolboxes. The crate you
are in has the best view of Fatman's head. Use your SOCOM (or
M9 if you do not like killing people) and start shooting at him.
Five to seven shots is all you need if you are a good marksman
to diffuse Fatman and his final bomb. Quinito.
Make sure you have a mine detector and claymores. When you start
the battle, defuse the first two bombs. Then, turn on your mine
detector and lay claymores all over. If Fatman skates over a claymore
he will fall on the ground and take damage. You should then be
able to shoot him in the head twice with the SOCOM or M9. Repeat

After defusing all of his bombs and he is shooting at you, look
at the crates to the left . Go to the third crate and go under
it. You will see Fatman in the corner to the left. Shoot him,
then crawl out from under the crate. Go back in and repeat this
until he has been defeated. Aero10Mike.
Defuse all of the bombs. When he starts to skate around, hide
underneath one of the steel bins so that you can see and hit him
with your gun . Shoot and hit him in the head about five to seven

In order to defeat Fatman quickly, wait for him to roll around
and stop. Then, walk over and set a claymore mine next to him.
He will try to skate away. When he does, the mine will explode
and he will fall. Repeatedly shoot him in the top of his head.

Equip the Sensor A and freeze all the bombs. Then, use your SOCOM
and try to shoot Fatman. Hit him rapidly to knock him down. Then,
keep shooting his head. He will drop two SOCOM boxes every time
he gets knocked down. Claymores are also very useful -- equip
your mine detector after placing them. wilson88.
Keep spraying the bombs. When he stops laying them down, put mines
on the places he skates over most often. Stay by the mines and
wait for him to go over them. When he does, shoot him in the head
as many times as possible. When he dies, the bomb will be under
him. Press Square and move in a direction, then spray the

When you shoot Fatman and he falls to the ground, run in front
of him. Take out your USP and shoot him in the head. He will die

Defeating Fortune: After you meet her, go to Heliport of Strut E Roof
quickly. When you first meet her. it is not really a battle, since
you cannot hurt her. Just wait for the elevator to come back down.

To defeat Fortune under the extreme difficulty setting, hide in
one of the boxes you get on the Plant mission. Run back and forth.
Fortune will not be able to hit you as long as you are moving
with the box on you. It is best to wait for her to fire before

To defeat Fortune under the extreme difficulty setting, your only
chance is dodging. Timing could not be more crucial than ever
in this fight. The best way is to do all the dodging in the beginning.
Flip side to side every time she is about to fire. In case you
get hit, you can have some cover to charge your health back up.

Since you cannot hit her, just run and avoid her attacks until
Vamp arrives. Note: She will blow up whatever she hits. wilson88.
Defeating Olga: Shoot the tarp before Olga does, then shoot out the
spotlight also so she cannot blind you with it. Isaih1313

Defeating Olga under the extreme difficulty setting can be quite
challenging. Some of the tactics that work on the other modes
will not work on extreme. You cannot shoot out the light or the
strings of the tarp. Start by using the "hide and seek"
method -- when she is not looking, dive to another part of the
area. She will keep shooting in the same place. When she shoots
up the tarp, hit her once and then she will shoot it away -- the
only way to do this is to be fast (try to get her while she is
moving). Remember, when she is using the tarp or light, she automatically
knows where you are, so do not rely on the "hide and seek"
method. Once she starts using the light, you have to get her while
she is not shooting. Start behind the boxes on the right, wait
until she stops shooting to throw a grenade, then quickly jump
behind the boxes on the left. Do not worry if she sees you. She
will stop to shoot the light to point it in your direction again.
While she is doing this, try to get a shot off on her while the
light is not in your face. Repeat this method until you win. Matt Lustig.
As soon as you start the fight with Olga under the extreme difficulty
setting, you will see two boxes on the ground with two boxes on
top of them on the right side. Between the two boxes on the ground
is a crack. Lay down (not just kneel) and look through it. Olga
will see you down there and begin aiming at you. At this point,
go into first person view and shoot her in the head. Next she
will keep going left and right on either side of the crack. Enough
of her body sticks out of the side for you to shoot her. Keep
repeating this quickly and she will not shoot the tarp or the
light. During the entire battle, she just goes left and right
on either side of the crack. When she is on either side, you must
shoot her quickly or she will throw a grenade through the crack.

Crouch below the nearby crate and go into first person view. Release
Crouch to enter combat. Press Crouch again to hide.
Run to a different position when Olga says "Take this!"
as she will throw a grenade. Make sure you shoot the spotlight
to prevent her from shining it in your face. There is ration in
the left corner. Finally, when you have her weakened, throw some
Stun Grenades to finish her. You can then take her dog tags and
USP. wilson88.
Defeating the Harrier Jet: This is an easy battle. Just use your stinger missile
to take it down. Trevor Doolen.
Under the extreme difficulty setting, the beginning of the battle
is fairly simple. Stand by the stairs, flip down when the jet
fires, and retaliate when possible. When it starts to hover over
you, quickly shoot the tail end of the jet until it flies away.
If you decreased its damage to the halfway point, then it will
fire missiles that destroy part of the bridge. You can dodge this
by going downstairs and squatting in between the first box and
the wire railing. It should return with a missile strike from
far away. You should have the stinger out and ready to fire as
soon as it appears. The easiest way to avoid this is to hang off
the railing in the direction of where the Harrier flew to. When
the beeps get very close together, either drop down to the bottom
or pull yourself back up. You will be invincible during both instances.
The Harrier will do one of four things; the first attack at the
beginning of the battle, the missile attack from far away, a continuous
machine gun fire spray (it will fly over Shell 2 if this occurs),
and a continuous missile battery assault (it will usually fly
under the bridge if this occurs). To dodge machine gun fire, go
all the way by the Shell 2 doorway. There is like a small orange
rectangle formed there. Go to the right side of this rectangle
and duck down. However, if you are too close to the walls the
bullets will penetrate and hit you. To handle the missile battery,
wait with your stinger pointed in the direction it always pops
up from, then blast it once very quickly. After you shoot it,
go in between the first and second floor of the bridge and lay
down. Crawl up and down (depending in which direction he is firing
the missiles). If they are down, then up; if up then down. CaptD2.
To defeat the Harrier on the 1-2 connecting bridge, hide on the
lower level so that it cannot hit you. When it starts to fire,
go to the upper level and shoot it. Use the rations that Snake
throws down from the helicopter. Alfie.
Defeating the Metal Gear RAY Army: Use the following tactics when fighting the army of
Metal Gear RAYs: nagle10.
Do not focus on only one RAY at a time. You may kill it quickly,
but then the other two will be in the arena with full health and
become much harder to kill. It is better to divide attacks up
evenly between the first three on the outside, so when they all
come in they will be almost dead.
Do not worry about running out of ammunition. As long as you constantly
run from missile attacks, you will pick up ammo boxes with ten
missiles in each. Also, this is the last battle that the stinger
is required, so you do not need to save any.
As you may see throughout the battle, usually when you use a ration
another appears in the middle. Do not rely on this for the entire
battle. Only about three or four will appear, and then no more.
Do not take chances at the beginning of the battle. You will use
up most, of if not all, the rations given to you and towards at
the end you will be in some trouble. If you have less than full
health, a lot of rations, or want to live dangerously at the end
of the battle, take every shot you get.
If you get hit with a missile there will probably be one or two
more about to hit you, depending on where they were launched.
You have probably noticed that the last one or two will not do
damage. However, if two RAYs launch missiles near the same time,
if you get hit by the first set you should stay on the ground
and the second set also will not hurt you.
When a RAY is using its machine gun and covering its face, if
you are fast or have time to shoot one of its knees, the attack
will stop and he will be down for a few seconds for a good head
shot.
If a RAY is doing its strange roar (where he opens his mouth and
blue light comes out), shoot a missile up his mouth. It will do
more damage than a normal attack, up to almost half of his health
will be taken away. Note: This does not refer to the blue laser
attack he does when you are near -- it is the thing that he cannot
hurt you with.
Immediately when the battle starts, shoot a missile at the middle
RAY, then the one on the right, then on the left. The middle and
right RAYs will use their machine guns, but the left one will
usually still be open for attack. The one on the left should be
RAY-RO3E. Try to eliminate this one, then take the other two down.
However, damage them all equally.
You only really have to kill four Metal Gears instead of the average
six that people kill until it ends. Look for the RAY with the
name RAY-ROSE. It is the fifth RAY, and the only one that is not
numbered. He will be easier to kill in the background when the
fourth RAY is the main man in the center. He may take no longer,
but at least he will not shoot the knee-missiles, which are usually
the deadliest weapons. Also, RAY 4 will be get confused because
when chasing RAY-ROSE you be running around RAY 4. He will not
hit you with anything and then RAY 3 or RAY 6 will just shoot
the high missiles which usually will not hit a good player. After
you kill RAY-ROSE an intermission sequence will begin and you
will have completed the hardest part of the game. Note: Make sure
you have about an hour of free time for the intermission to view
it all.
Shoot Metal Gear RAY in the leg (one of the targets off to the
side), then quickly shoot him in the head when you can lock on
to him with your Stinger missile. This will take almost half of
their energy, making it much easier to defeat him. GUMBY25437.
Hit his knee, then his head. Hitting his knee will cause him to
go down on one knee and scream. When he is on one knee and screaming,
fire a Stinger missile into his mouth. That will cause double
damage. Note: This combo might be interrupted by another Metal
Gear RAY firing missiles at you. -- dodge the missiles and repeat
the process. Dead316Man
and Karupt.
Throw chaff grenades, stopping them from using all attacks except
missiles. Then, equip the Stinger and aim for the knee of one.
Hit the knee and the face will open. Quickly aim for the face,
allowing you to do the most damage. Afterwards, dodge the incoming
missiles. The only time they will have any other attack other
than missiles (if you chaff) is when they jump to the center of
the ring. Once there, they will use machine guns and try to step
on you. Stinger missiles and rations will spawn a few times. Keep
repeating this until you have killed all five. If you are having
trouble, just kill the one called "Rose", and the battle
will end. LightTigerLT.
When the battle starts, look closely at the lights on the RAYs.
You will notice that they are all slightly colored. The health
indicator for the RAYs is color coded to match them with the correct
color RAY. Select any RAY, and leave the other two alone for the
moment. However still try to dodge their attacks. Fight the RAY
of your choice until its energy is gone. It will then retreat
and return fully charged. Make a note of which color RAY you just
fought, then move onto the next color RAY of your choice. Once
you fight and defeat one color of RAY you do not need to bring
its health meter down again. All you need to do is make sure you
get all the color RAYs health meters drained completely. You really
only end up fighting three RAYs. SerratedEdge4.
Once you get one of the RAYs on the dance floor with you, there
is a technique you can use to fight them. Run straight towards
it, avoiding the machine gun and the strange laser from its mouth,
and stand directly between its feet. In that position, he cannot
shoot you with anything (and neither can the other RAY). All you
have to worry about is getting too close to one foot or another
(because he will stomp you) or getting kicked when he moves away
from you. Just keep running up to him whenever he moves, and nobody
can touch you. Use the Stinger to hit him down at your leisure.
Aim for the head because nothing else will do any damage. Dou ya.
When you are alone in the arena, fire your Stingers to only one
of the RAYs on the outside. It does not matter how you want to
do this -- just get his health down until he jumps into the arena
with you. You can hear when their missiles are going to land because
they make a sound which gets faster as they get closer. Keep moving
around to avoid them. Do not get too close or they will use machine
guns on you. If this happens, run back and to the side and they
will miss. When one of them is in the ring, run straight towards
him. He is now an easy opponent. The other two will not attack
because they may damage their comrade. If he uses the machine
gun, you can run towards him; if you get too close, he will stop.
He will not use the side missiles, but if he does they can be
avoided by doing a flip (roll if you are Snake). Do the same when
he stamps his foot. Your aim here is to get the RAY to use his
laser. Run in front of him, quite close. He will turn from side
to side for a bit, then shoot at you. Do not be directly in front,
as the laser hurts. When he is using the laser, he will not move.
This is your chance. He is more vulnerable at this time. Use Stingers
on his face, but from the front or it will be blocked by his neck
shield. Repeat this for the other RAYs when they enter. Under
the normal difficulty setting, a RAY takes four hits while vulnerable
before he runs away. Under the very easy difficulty setting, it
loses all its life after one shot. Haukur Heimisson.
When you start this battle, shoot the RAY in his knee, then the
head. Do not waste time with chaff. Once the RAY jumps onto the
platform, move close enough so it will use its beam. When he does,
flip away making sure you head back at the same time, then fire
the Stinger. If needed there should be enough time for the RAY
to reposition itself towards you -- during this time you can crouch
for health to save rations and get a better score. This will do
the same damage as the knee-head combo plus it will save ammunition

Defeating Olga: Although Olga may seem difficult at first, she is actually
really easy. Throughout the fight it is probably best that you
use the third-person view. Once she targets you, wait for her
to take cover, then do a dive roll to move around her to the other
side. If she did not see you, she will think you are still where
you were and you can approach from behind her. Whenever she uses
the tarp for cover, shoot the black plate it is tied to and it
will blow away. Repeat this and do not forget to get her dog tag
after she is KO'd. Also, climb to the top of the mast for the
thermal goggles. Trevor Doolen.
Defeating Solidus: Good sword skill is required for this tactic. Any hesitation
or slight mistake will cost you a one third of your health. The
first part of the battle is simple. Run in a circle when he tries
to jab you with a tentacle. When he jabs, slice him horizontally
or vertically, then jab. If you knock him down after one quarter
or so of his life is gone, he will retaliate with missiles. These
missiles can be dodged by hanging off the ledge. If he tries to
attack you from jumping off a building, just flip out of the way.
He has three different sets of sword attacks. He will either do
a vertical slash, a fast horizontal slash, or a slow horizontal
slash. He is open to attack from the first two attack types. If
he tries to sweep you off your feet with his tentacles, keep your
distance. If he happens to grab you with a tentacle, press Triangle
and quickly move the Analog-stick from side to side. After
about half his health is gone, he will ditch the tentacles and
jet across the rooftop, ending with either an elbow jam or sword
attacks. Finding an open attack is almost impossible at this point.
When he jets he will leave fire behind in his wake. Avoid it or
flip over it. His sword attacks are also faster. In addition to
the slow horizontal slashes, he throws in a jab either immediately
after or soon after. The best time to attack is when he does a
jab. As soon as he jabs, run close and use your jab to throw him
off balance. In this short attack window, run close and slice
him twice followed by a quick jab. If done successfully, he will
fall down. When he gets up he will dash at you, but this is easily
predictable. When he is running across the screen, stay by the
walls so he cannot surround you with fire. When he tries to attack,
flip out of the way. Repeat and he will be defeated in no time.

At the start, run and hang off the ledge near the bottom of the
screen. When Solidus starts to lift his swords and hit you, climb
up and hit him three times. Hang off the ledge again and repeat.
When he starts to fire missiles, you can just hang of the ledge
to avoid them. When he tries to hit you again, simply get up and
hit him three more times. Keep repeating this until he takes off
his snake arms. Then, cartwheel out of the way of his quick attack.
Circle around him until he lunges at you. Hit him and he will
fall off balance. Hit him and repeat this until he is defeated.

Use the following steps to defeat Solidus under the hard or any
other difficulty setting. When the battle begins, decide which
type of blade you want (blunt side or sharp side). Immediately
when it starts, block with the sword and wait until Solidus attacks.
He will usually jab with his tentacle. If you block it, he will
say something. Then, attack him till he falls. When he falls,
do not chase him. Instead, wait until he gets up and jets away.
He will usually use his rockets. Dodge them. Repeat this until
he dies. Note: You cannot block the rockets or his tentacle sweep.
If you attack him and he blocks it, he will usually counter you
with a kick. Block it and attack him. The DMD.
If you are in the extreme or hard difficulty setting, you must
have one ration. Run to the edge of Fardel Hall and hang. Wait
for Solidus to appear. When you see him lifting his arms up to
hit you, quickly press Triangle and attack. Stab him so
that he gets away from you and return to hanging mode. Note: Sometimes
Solidus can get you with his rockets when you are hanging. Repeat
this way of attacking until he loses his Snakes. After this, the
hanging and attack method will not because Solidus can get you
by slashing. Fight him -- just block and watch very closely to
see which direction Solidus is approaching you. Block in that
direction, Keep blocking until you see an open chance for a slash

Always keep your guard up (L1) so you can block most of
his attacks, then counter quickly. If you have a good camera angle
while he shoots his missiles, you can go between them and attack
Solidus. If you are going to kill Solidus, as soon as you hit
him a second time press R3 to lunge for extra damage.
Silverviper491.
The following can be done under the hard and extreme difficulty
settings. Solidus has a few main attacks. He has a 3-hit sword
combo, which you can block with L1. He has a kick, which
you can also block with L1. He has a tentacle grab, which once
again can be blocked with L1. He has an unblockable tentacle
sweep, but only hits for a minuscule amount of health. He also
has a missile attack and double sword strike which also cannot
be blocked. To defeat him, hold L1 whenever you move around,
and face him as much as possible. If he does his kick or his 3-hit
combo, block it and counter. However, there is a trick to countering
them. If you hit Solidus three times in a counter, he will fall
down, get up, speed away, and shoot missiles. If you hit him only
twice, he will not fall down; and he will do another one of his
easily blockable moves. Repeat this process to defeat him quickly.
If you do get attacked with the missiles, run off the building
and hang and they will not hit you. However, this missile defense
does not always work under the extreme difficulty setting. Once
Solidus enters his second phase, ("Good Work, Jack. But this
is where it gets interesting."), he is a bit trickier. When
he moves around and makes the fire, always run towards him, holding
L1. When he says "take this" and runs into you,
you will block it and be able to quickly counter, where the same

To defeat Solidus easily, call Otacon for some tips on sword techniques
and Solidus' weaknesses. Also, Solidus has a blind spot on his

Defeating Vamp: Use the Stinger Missiles to kill him in about one minute.

Shoot him when he is above, and when he is swimming plant Claymores.

At the beginning, aim for his bullet scars to do lots of damage.
When he is walking on the rail, wait for him to do his spinning
knife move. While he is clapping his hands, aim for his stomach
scar. When he chases you, flip one second after he stops and keep

Run to the right, get the ration. Get back to where you were,
directly in front of Vamp. Equip the Stinger launcher. Aim while
the Vamp is bowing, then shoot. Vamp, wounded, dives. Place C4
right where you are standing, then run away. During the first
part of the battle, Vamp dives more frequently. Run around in
this first phase until he finishes throwing his knives and dives
again. Run to the northeast corner where the door is located.
Pick up all the items on the way and get C4 equipped, ready to
activated. Look in first person view at the location where you
placed the C4. Vamp is about to jump out of the pool. If you stay
in that corner, preliminarily placing C4 on the same spot, you
will see the Vamp getting to the same area when jumping out of
the pool. As soon as he is there, activate the C4. Do not forget
to shoot and break the lights (SOCOM) now, as the battle will
be getting to an end, Vamp will be more aggressive. You will have
less time and chance to do that (your shadow). Vamp, blown away,
flies back into the pool. Get the Stinger missile ready, aimed
at the same spot. When Vamp jumps out again at the same spot,
hit him with a missile. The same result will happen -- he travels
back into the pool. You can repeat these actions when you feel
you are not running out of either ammunition or health. However,
be careful in the last stage when the Vamp "gets mad and
unstoppable". He appears at the first floor where you are
located more often, and by that time should have almost no health.
If on this stage you have at least 50 % health, stand at the door
you used to enter the room. Change to first person view, equip
the SOCOM, aim, and shoot. You can hit him even if he glows red.

When Emma is crossing the Oil Fence and Vamp jumps up and starts
choking her, and you have to shoot him, just shoot him in the

Use the following trick to prevent the part when Vamp shoots the
light and you cannot move. Unlock the Stealth camouflage and equip
it when fighting Vamp. He freezes you by shooting a light at you.

he is distracted, take out your SOCOM and shoot out the. This
will prevent him throwing knifes that pin down your shadow and
immobilize you. Vamp will do one of two things. He will either
jump into the water (use the grenade launcher to hurt him in the
water) or jump around on the walls (stand still and If he jumps
next to you, side flip away and shoot). Continue this until he

When Vamp is in the pool of water, fire the RGBG into it to make
his oxygen decrease quicker. The aim does not matter, as long
as the bullet goes into the pool. When he comes out, use Stinger
Missiles to hit him. If you get caught and cannot move, and he
throws knives at you, remain standing At the last moment, press
X to crouch and they will miss. Repeat this as needed.
Zell52.
When the battle starts, shoot Vamp. When he goes into the water,
run anywhere near an edge and plant a C4 bomb. Then, jump over
the edge directly next to the bomb. When Vamp approaches, he realizes
that he cannot hit you and jumps down. He will start to walk toward
you, and when he steps over the C4, blow him up. He will jump
back in the water. Repeat the cycle until he dies. Note: Act quickly,
because if he jumps up before you are done, you will be knifed.

Instant sleep: Under the normal, hard, and extreme difficulty settings,
the sentries do not sleep instantly with the tranquilizer gun.
Try to hit them and run to them. You may be able to give them
the punch, punch, kick, kick combo and they will automatically

Easy kills: The following trick is very useful under the extreme
difficulty setting. When enter a room, run across to the other
door and lay down. With the grenade launcher, use it in first
person view and wait for your enemy to walk up on you. Then, just

Exploding enemy: Put a C4 on an enemy's back without him seeing you.
Press Circle and he will explode. Tony O.
Break terrorist's neck: Approach from behind a terrorist, then press Square
to grab his neck. Then, rapidly press the Square button

Choking enemies: A silent and reliable method for knocking out an enemy
is to choke them until they lose consciousness. However, this
technique has an extremely high chance of "accidental death"
due to the enemy's neck breaking. It takes eleven chokes including
the initial grab to eliminate the enemy. Therefore, choking the
enemy nine to ten times will result in the enemy being "knocked

Nikita smash: Equip the Nikita and hit somebody with it. It is so

Hang and knock down: Hang down from a railing that is under a guard. When
you swing yourself up again you will knock him down, if you are

Tranq sword: Press the weapon button (Square) with the sword
equipped. Raiden turns the sword around and you can hit people
with the blunt side of the blade. This is called a blunt strike.

One hit knockout: Hold up an enemy, look down at his groin, and hit him
for a one hit knockout. This trick also works from behind. scopion1.
Shatter shields: If you have a M4 or AK and the SWAT team comes with
shields, shoot their shields and they will shatter. NavyS3.
Knock off guards near bridges: During combat, when a guard spots you flip over a bridge
by leaning against it and pressing X. As they try to kick
