cheats: Locations
Plant chapter: Snake in box:
In the Plant chapter, after you meet with Stillman
for the first time (in Strut C) and he gives you Sensor A, run
outside and head towards Strut D. You will see an unconscious
guard, and Snake trying to escape in a cardboard box. If you try
to get close to him, he will make a break and run for it. Alternatively,
start blasting away at the box. He will also start running away,
but shreds of the box(es) will be left behind.

Plant chapter: Transport box destinations:
All the boxes will take you to different places. Go
to Strut E and there will be a platform you can jump on, put on
your box, and wait a few seconds.

Box 1 will take you to Strut C (Dining Room)
Box 2 will take you to Strut B (Transformer Room)
Box 3 will take you to Strut A (Pump Room)
Box 4 will take you to Strut F (Warehouse)
Box 5 will take you nowhere. You will just end up going to a room
in Strut E.
Plant chapter: Getting through Arsenal
Gear:
To get through the room with the RAYS, hide behind
the crates until the enemies look away. Go up the stairs in the
north-west part of the room and go across the closest connecting
bridge. You should be in the northeast part of the room on the
second floor. Knock out the enemy and enter the door behind him.
Once you get in, answer some of the calls for laughs. You should
get a call from Rose, and then Snake will come in the room and
return your clothes. It is obvious what needs to be done after
this.

Walk past the first guard when he turns to the left and walk over
to the stairs. Go up halfway up the stairs but wait until the
guard up there walks away from you. Go across the little bridge.
Walk down on the left side to the end, pick up the box, and equip
it. You should now have no problem getting through this if you
do not move when the guard is looking at you or if you get in
his way. Also, under the hard or extreme difficulty settings,
there will be a camera when you are trying to go up almost all
the way on the left side. You have to know when to move under
the blind spot and when to move when it is not facing you. If
you get near the end when you are discovered, do not worry. The
last guard will more than likely spot you -- run to get out of
there.

Plant chapter: Auto-transportation:
Try to find every Box in the Plant, then go to the
Strut E parcel room. Tranquilize the guards and hop on to the
conveyer belt. Get in a box and it will send you to different
struts of the Big Shell. For example, the orange box will bring
you to Strut C. Use the other boxes to explore the Big Shell.

Plant chapter: Falling platforms:
Use the following trick to tell if a platform will
fall or not. Shoot a platform (on a connecting bridge for example).
If you hear a sound from the bullet hitting the floor, the platform
is going to fall. If you equip the thermal goggles, the platforms
that will fall will be colored differently. Also, if you look
closely without the thermal goggles, the platforms will have a
slightly different color.

Plant chapter: False death:
Go on the CD connecting bridge. Come out of strut C
and go to the first set of steps. If you are arriving from strut
D, go to the second set of steps. There will be a trap door on
the ground. Stand on it, and Raiden will fall and scream as if
he were falling into the ocean. However, he will not die.

Plant chapter: Get the girl magazine:
In Shell Core 1, in the B2 computer room, the parrot
will say something about the top of the locker on the left side
of the room. As you can see, there is a girl magazine on top there.
To get it, make a guard suspicious by knocking on the locker.
When he gets there, punch him into the locker a few times. the
Magazine will fall and reveal a surprise.

Plant chapter: Turn on hand dryer:
When in the Strut with a bathroom, go in and press
Punch near the hand dryer (white box) on the wall and it
will turn on.

Plant chapter: Getting items on the other
side of boxes in Strut F:
Get the Level 1 card from Stillman, then go to the
room with the node in it. It is on the bottom level. Go right
across from the node and press Crawl. Crawl through the
shaft to the end. Crawl out to reach the other room across the
hall with the other items on the other side.

Plant chapter: American commandos in Strut
F:
Occasionally, during alerts or investigations in Strut
F, an elite commando squad with advanced body armor will appear
instead of the usual Russian troops. Look closely to see that
they have grenade launcher M4s and have obvious American accents.
They are very dangerous, and they will use their grenade launchers.
It helps if you have the Stealth Camo.

Plant chapter: Bomb locations:
When Stillman gets blown up and you have to find the
second bomb, it is at the bottom of Strut-A, on the bottom of
the submarine.

To get to the last mini-bomb, it is in Strut-A under all the things.
To get to it, crawl under the pipe that is parallel to the door.
Then, crawl under the other pipes. Another way to do this is to
go over the bridge closest to the door and crawl under those pipes.

Plant chapter: Getting mines:
During this chapter, Fatman lays claymore mines around
Shells 1 and 2. Use the mine detector to see where they are located.
After doing this, crawl over the mines to pick them up.

Plant chapter: Knock out guard looking
at bird:
Get on the AB connecting bridge on the Plant. Shoot
a bird with the M9 tranquilizer and make sure that it lands somewhere
near the guard. Shoot the bird that you already shot down with
the M9 again. The guard will become suspicious. Take out your
SOCOM and shoot the bird that the guard was looking at. For some
reason the guard will be knocked out while watching the bird die.

Plant chapter: Raven toy:
When entering the water beside the elevator on the
flooded floor of the Shell 2 Core, swim as if going towards where
Emma is located. As you get halfway through, you will see a mine
floating in the center of the water, Go through the door at the
right of the mine and you should see a little Raven doll floating
around in that room.

Tanker chapter: Marines in boxer shorts:
Reach the last Marine room very quickly. If you were
fast enough, all the Marines will be in boxer shorts.

After completing the game once, play a second time on the tanker.
Walk by the guards who are in the room with the commander and
they will all be in their underwear.

In the room where the general is giving his speech by Metal Gear
RAY, shoot him in the head to kill him. This will alert all the
guards and you will see the game over screen. Continue, and when
you go back in the room all the guards will have lost their trousers.

When you go into the first hold where the soldiers are listening
to the speech, instead of going through the door to Hold No. 2,
walk to your right, and in front of all the soldiers. There should
be a soldier near the front, wearing the regular outfit, except
instead of the regular pants he is only wearing boxers.

Tanker chapter: Knock out all the Marines:
Go to the part of the mission with all the Marines
watching the slides. Equip your M9 and you can knock them all
out. If you stay to the side of each row you will not be seen.
Make sure to get a good headshot to avoid alerting them. You can
even hold up Marines, but they will not give up anything. Make
sure you use the M9 to avoid detection and try to make the entire
floor fall asleep. It helps if you have the Bandanna or Stealth
Suit. Note: The game will start to run very slow after about half
the Marines are asleep.

When outside on the deck, hang over the rail above
an enemy. Drop on them to knock them unconscious.

When you are running down stairs, roll and Snake will
hit his head and lay motionless for about five seconds.

From start to finish, every time you save Otacon recites
a Chinese proverb. If you call and save each time you enter a
new area, after about the thirteenth time you will see Mei Ling.

When you are in the room with Metal Gear RAY and the
Marines go into the ventiation shaft, behind Metal Gear, and you
be able to see Ocelot before he takes over and destroys the ship.
Note: This obviously cannot be done after submitting your photos
of RAY to Otacon.

Tanker chapter: Secret route to Metal Gear
RAY hold:
When the Commandant begins his speech, after going
down the ladder, head to the left of the room. Under the ladder
on the left side is a small hatch that can be opened. It leads
to an air duct which will take you to the other end of the room.
There is another hatch in Hold 2. Take the one on the right. A
guard will drop a clip in front of you. This duct leads to an
area directly underneath Metal Gear RAY. Crawl through the air
duct on the right to get to a ladder, which takes you directly
in front of the "MARINES" insignia on the side. Slide
down the pole in front of you to get to the ground floor.

There is a second secret route to the Metal Gear RAY hold. Go
to the first section of the Metal Gear RAY holds. Climb the ladder
on the right side. Flip over and hang on the edge. Go all the
way to the right until you get to the end. Flip back over go through
the door. Do the same thing until you get to the next door. You
should now be above everybody, and at eye level with Metal Gear
RAY. Note: You can also do this on the right ladder, but there
is a guard in your way.

A faster way to get through all three holds is as follows. As
soon as you get through the door getting into the holds (No.1),
get to the ground and look on the left side. There will be a hatch
there. Open it, climb down the ladder, and crawl through the path
ahead. Continue doing this until you get to Metal Gear RAY.

Tanker chapter: Second railing shortcut:
When in the first hold on the Tanker section (with
Solid Snake), go down the first ladder and jump over the second
railing. Take a ration if you are not at full health because your
grip gauge will drop faster. Then, shimmy to the left by either
pressing Left or L2. Shimmy to the section of the
railing closest to the projection screen. When the guard that
is up there turns around, hop over the railing and tranquilize
him before he spins. Continue through the doors until you reach
the third hold, where there is a guard dozing. Tranquilize him,
then proceed to take pictures of Metal Gear RAY from the upper
railing. You can get everything except the center forward shot
from the railing. To get down there will be a pole somewhere along
the walkway that Snake can slide down. After sliding down, there
is a guard (depending on the difficulty level), who is dozing.
Tranquilize him, take the center picture, then transmit the photos
to Otacon.

Tanker chapter: Pass Hold 1 and 2:
When you arrive at the Hold 1 (where where the commandant
is lecturing all the soldiers), you will see a ladder. Go down
the ladder. You are now on the second floor/second stage. Hang
the nearest ledge (hold L2 + R2) from the ladder,
then move to the left. Note: This trick will work only if your
grip is strong.

Tanker chapter: More in-depth information
on Metal Gear RAY:
Get to the Holding Decks where the Commandant makes
his speech. Do not worry about the time limit. Get to the Commandant,
take the pictures you need, and hide safely in a corner. If needed,
tranquilize the sleeping guard to the left of Metal Gear (to Snake's
right when you face it). Hide in the corner over there. In this
corner, if you did not take the sub-flooring passageway, you can
get a great shot of the "Marines" logo on Metal Gear
(though you do not need it). Wait out the time limit, or if you
have the bandanna or the stealth camo, have some fun with the
Marines, but pay attention to the Commandant. By allowing time
to run out, the Commandant will start his speech again. However
this time he will make more references to Shadow Moses and reveal
even more on the technical aspects of Metal Gear Ray, with information
he did not include in his first speech.

Tanker chapter: Exploding poster girl:
There is a picture of a "poster girl" in
the engine room, to the south (which is why the guard uses his
binoculars to a wall). If you shoot her, the picture will explode,
causing you to enter alert mode.

There is another exploding poster girls in the engine room. Enter
from the right side, go down to the bottom level, and head to
the back (north) of the room. It will be on the left (west) wall
below the platform. Shooting this picture also causes an explosion.
If you take pictures of these, Otacon will blush and make a "backup".

Tanker chapter: Hidden poster:
When you enter the engine room, go down to the bottom
catwalk. When you reach the bottom of the stairs, run up and you
will see a white disposal gate, similar to the ones on the deck.
There will be a small square black hole. Hang from the horizontal
rail above the hole. When you are hanging, hold R1 and
the look to your left. You will see a poster like the one that
the ''perverted'' guard is looking at. Shoot it and you will now
be in alert mode.

Tanker chapter: Break the door:
Go to the left side of the dining hall on deck C. Exit
the hall and you will be in the room with the girl posters. If
you try to go back into the dining hall, Snake will rip off the
door wheel. He will then place it back on the door. After that,
the door will be locked.

Tanker chapter: Blushing Otacon:
On the south wall of the engine room in the tanker
is a picture. Look at it with the Digital Camera, zoom in, and
take a picture of it. When you get to the bow where Metal Gear
is housed, send it to him. He will tell you that it is a nice
picture and that he is going to make a copy. Look at his cheeks
while he is talking about it to see him blush.

Tanker chapter: Toy pellets:
When you see the toy in front of the flashlight, shoot
it. It will start to shoot small pellets all over the floor.
When you get hallway just before the engine room there is a little
toy with a gun. Shoot the toy with your M9 and it will become
activated and start firing.

There are many cables in the tanker that you can hang
from. One is in the engine room just outside the room with the
Vulcan Raven figure. Hang over the small railing and move across
to get to the other side. The other cables are in Hold 1 on the
second level, one from right to left, the other across the left
side.

Tanker chapter: Hold 2 screens:
When you enter Hold 2, shoot all the guards in line
with your M9 (including the one wearing the helmet). Press Triangle
near the projectors repeatedly, and a clip of a woman should appear
at first (the poster girl), then the second should follow. Note:
You will be caught.

Tanker chapter: Loose pipe:
There is a place where a pipe can fall over if you
are against the wall. After you get past the lasers in the engine
room, go through the door. You can keep running until you see
a solider approaching. Run towards him and go into the opening
where the hatch is located. Stand up against the wall and peek
around the corner to where the solider is. If you stand there
long enough, a pipe will fall at your location and attract the
guard, giving you the chance to shoot him.

Tanker chapter: Good hiding location:
You are often spotted in the room where you see the
man's shadow. He is not the problem, but if you are spotted there
is no place to hide. Go south and stay ahead of your enemies.
There is a tiny location with a locker in the southern-most part
of the room. It is a great hiding area. If you stay there, the
enemies will keep moving as if you are still running around. You
can now hide in the locker. If the enemies are too close to you,
this will not work.

Tanker chapter: Double knockout:
Under any difficulty setting, enter the engine room
from the starboard side with the Vulcan Raven toy. Enter the door
to the guarded area slowly. There will be a guard here. Do the
punch, punch, kick combo. If done correctly, the guard will fall
down, die, and knock out the unsuspecting guard below.

Tanker chapter: Scared guard:
When you enter Deck 2, after you pass the engine room
port, go to the third opening on the right. Press R2(2)
and a pipe will fall and the guard will be scared. Another guard
will appear and you will not get caught.

Tanker chapter: Sending guards over edges:
In the engine room's starboard entrance (the one used
when you first go into the engine room), go down the hall. Go
through the door on the left that leads into the engine room.
There should be a guard with his back toward you, just standing
there. Go behind him and do the Punch(2), Kick combo.
He should fall off the edge and land on top of another guard.

From where you were when you hit the first guard over the edge,
go down the stairs without being detected until you reach the
area where there is a big crate. From down there, you should be
able to aim at the guard on the level above you. When he walks
to the edge and stops, shoot him in the head. He should walk forward
slightly, then fall off of the edge.

From where you were when you shot the second guard in the head,
continue walking across the engine room until you get to the guard
with binoculars. Wait until he uses his binoculars. Get behind
him and do the Punch(2), Kick combo. He should fall
off the edge and scream.

When in the first or second hold, watch the big screen
television. If you look closely, you can see Sergei's troops take
their positions on the catwalks in the third hold.

Tanker chapter: Take a picture of Ocelot:
Go in the ventilation shafts, all the way to the sliding
pole where you will see Ocelot standing. Be careful not to look
away at first or he will disappear. After getting to the area
where you slide down the pole, equip your Digital Camera. Zoom
in on Ocelot just to get a good picture. Then go to the computer
to submit the photo. Otacon will make a funny movement.

If you take a picture of Olga after the fight (when
she is lying on the floor), Snake will make a kissing sound. After
taking a picture of a poster girl Snake will say "good"
or "great". He will also say "good" when you
take a picture of the Vulcan Raven Toy. When in the holds with
Metal Gear Ray. take a picture of the Commandant during the speech
and Snake will say "hmmm".

Tanker chapter: Hideo Kojima picture:
When in the hold of the ship, in the second room where
Marines are (the room with two screens), take a picture of the
screen on the right while it is on. A "ghost outline"
of Hideo Kojima will appear on the screen. Save this photo and
Otocan will react strongly when he views it.
