Pokémon Pikachu

Introduction

If you've used a Giga Pet or Tamagotchi, you probably know how to take care of virtual pets. The newly released Pokémon Pikachu is very different from a Giga Pet. Pikachu doesn't rely on you to do everything for him...you just play with him! When you play with him, you gain points. The more you have, the more he likes you. You can gain points by walking with him, shaking him, and giving him Watts. So what's really nice about this is that Pikachu doesn't really require 24 hour care!

Starting Out

When you first get your Pokémon Pikachu, pull out the tab to start Pikachu up. Then press the A button when the "Clock" symbol is highlighted to set the time. Use Up or Down on the Control Pad to set the hour. Press A to set the minutes. Press A again to start to care of your pet.

Game Screens

Here's some info on the Game Screens on Pokémon Pikachu.

Clock: Here you can set the Alarm. To set it, do the same thing for setting the time. If you're wondering, this is not required to wake Pikachu up.
Present: Here you can give Pikachu Watts as gifts. You can give him only up to 999 Watts at a time.
Coins: Here you can play the Slot Machine to win Watts. Check the "Earning Watts" part for more information.
Friend-Status: Press the Select button to access this. It tells you how Pikachu is doing with you along with his total Points.

Options Menu

Press Start to access this menu. Here's what you can do...

Reset: This resets the Points on the Main Screen. This does not reset the total amount of Points you've earned!
Sound: Allows you to turn the sound on or off.
Time Set: Allows you to change the time. See the "Starting Out" part to see how to set the time.

Earning Points

Like I mentioned before, points will build up your friendship with Pikachu. Earning them is easy, but you'll need to do a good bit of work to get tons of them! Here's how you can earn some points. When you shake Pikachu, you can hear something moving inside. Each time you hear this sound, Pikachu gains a point. You can also do that when you walk with him. If you shake him long enough, he will start to walk while saying "Pikachu". Shake him even longer and he will start to run or ride a bicycle.

Earning Watts

Giving Watts to Pikachu as a gift will make him do something special. There are two ways to gain Watts. If you shake or walk with him, you can gain some Watts. You get about five Watts for every 100 points. You also get some by playing the Mini-Game Slot Machine. Here, you bet five Watts to gain some more. If you can learn the timing to this game, earning them will be very easy. Here's what you can get:

Sevens (7) - 500 Watts
Cat Heads - 50 Watts
Flowers - 30 Watts
Fish - 30 Watts

Once you earn over a 1,000 Watts, I would keep the 1,000 in reserve and give Pikachu any over a thousand. Later on, you can increase the minimum amount of Watts to keep.

Pikachu's Actions

Here's a small list of what Pikachu will do while you take care of him and what happens when you shake him while he does an action.

Easy Watts

If you play the Slots after you get 10,000 Points, you will get 3 Seven (7)'s no matter what (Unless you end up timing it horribly). This will almost double the points you get per Step.
