This city contains the first Pokémon League trainer, Brock. If you visit the Museum for a cost of $50, you can see fossils of rare extinct Pokémon. Later on in the game you'll be able to revive some of them, but don't get too excited. You can't go to Route 3 to the east until you beat Brock so now enter the Gym...

Pokémon: Geodude - L12, Onix - L14
Before you fight Brock, there is another trainer, but you can avoid him if you walk behind him. Talk to Brock at the end of the Gym to fight. This guy is super easy as long as you have a Squirtle and/or a Bulbasaur at about level 13. If you use Charmander, you will a tough time fighting. For Squirtle, use Bubble, and for Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip. With those techniques, you should be able to beat the Pokémon with a hit or two.
Once you've beaten him, you can now head to Route 3.
